There are many wonderful places in Ecuador and many I would return to. But not to Montanita. The sales pitch forgets to advise of possibly the most important aspect. The weather is more often than not cloudy, windy and cool. Not really what you expect from a seaside resort. If it's just a few nights of partying you're after, amongst drunk and doped party goers, then it's probably ok. Having said that, Quito has a better party scene and the sun seems to be generally always shining.
The weather on the Pacific coast is quite different in various places. It's worth doing some research, if it's sun you are looking for. Some places are predominantly dreary all year and other places, that may be quite nearby, can be sunny most of the time.

We spent some time in Montanita, walking around and using the beach access that is available along the Malecon. The tide was coming in and the beach in the town itself was losing to the water.

Hermoso y con muy buena onda. Mar cálido, playas amplias y opciones para distintos presupuestos. Noche descontrolada en Montañita o la traquilidad de Olon o Manglaralto. Ojalá los ecuatorianos logren el país que se nerecen.

حادثة خطيرة تتعلق بالسلامة

Falls man nach Montañita geht, empfehle ich ausshalb des Zentrums zu übernachten und zu verweilen. Das Zentrum ist lustig für 2-3 Nächte, danach reichts aber auch. Das beste Restaurant und die besten Unterkünfte zu einem fairen Preis findet man meiner Meinung nach in La Punta (ein Teil von Montañita, ein bisschen nördliche vom Zentrum), da ist übrigens auch der beste Surfspot und das Taxi zur Party kostet auch nur $1.50. Dafür gibt es ab 11PM auch sicher Ruhe, falls man doch mal ein wenig Schlaf wünscht.
Vor allem Frauen sollten aber sehr vorsichtig sein! Lokale Männer versuchen Frauen Trophäen-mässig zu kriegen. Die Fassade meistens nett und zuvorkommend, hinter dem Rücken aber primitiv und einfach nur abscheulich. Wieso ich das weiss; weil ich zwei Wochen mit Locals zusammen gearbeitet habe, und dies das einzige Thema war. Alle hatten sie irgendwo in Europa eine Freundin evt. sogar mit Kind.
Fälle von Vergewaltigung wird von vielen einfach nur akzeptiert oder sogar belustigt - Anlaufstellen für Hilfe gibt es keine und scheinbar ist dies doch sehr häufig ein Problem. Zwei Fälle nur schon in meinem Freundeskreis innerhalb von 3-4 Wochen.
Drogen kann man meistens ausweichen, wenn man möchte, vorsichtig aber mit offenen Getränken!
Angst vor Diebstahl hatte ich nie, fühlte mich diesbezüglich sehr wohl. Auch am Strand, alleine in der Nacht.
Montañita ist für Surfer, Yogis und Kiffers definitiv einen Besuch Wert, empfehle aber vor allem Frauen vorsichtig zu sein!

Don't even bother going out of your way to go here on your travels.
We were up for a party but it's a loud, expensive ($20 for entry to Nightclub) and dirty town.
It's easy to see why South Americans like it as it's an exaggerated version if every other town in the continent.

Très jolie plage, oui, mais Montañita est aussi une très jolie petite ville un peu hippie où les jeunes viennent faire du surf. Beaucoup de commerce ont des toits de chaume. J'ai beaucoup aimé l'atmosphère détendue qui y règne! Il est très facile de s'y rendre en autobus à partir de Salinas: il faut d'abord se rendre au terminus d'autobus de Santa Elena et de là, prendre le bus pour Montañita. C'est une bien belle balade qui permet de voir les villages entre Salinas et Montañita (La ruta del Sol). Intéressant pour voir un autre côté de l'Équateur!

We stopped by this beach for lunch last week. We were there mid-week (Thursday) off-season (September), so there were no crowds. A few surfers enjoying the waves, and a few families enjoying the sand and shallows.
We had a nice lunch, spent an hour or so on the beach and went on our way. All-in-all, a pleasant stop, but we did not spend much time here.

Arrendamos un auto desde guayaquil, pasamos por Salinas, donde nos debimos quedar, pero el objetivo era la famosa montañita. Pasamos por pueblos muy pequeños y muy pobres lamentablemente. Pensamos que Montañita seria lo mismo pero no... Un lugar poco aseado, colapsado de vehiculos por sus estrechas calles. Una playa nada de acogedora, mucho comercio de tonterias baratas e imitaciones. Unas pocas cuadras de lo mismo y seria todo. Total decepcion. Quizas para un joven de 20 años con pocos recursos para recreación pueda ser atractivo pero nada mas.

Puedes descansar en el sector conocido como "La Punta" y hacer actividades en el agua como aprender a surfear o hacer paddleboard o tambien un full day para ir a hacer snorkel en una playa cercana.
