There are mixed reviews on this site however I can only comment on our experience today. We arrived early just before 830 in time to see the elephants finish their morning work gathering branches, walking through the forest and delivering them to various places that they would eat later in the day. The elephant handlers had sticks but only used them lightly, the elephants did have chains around one ankle although this did not affect them walking through the forest where we followed them. Next the elephants had breakfast, at this stage the elephants two front legs were chained together at first we didn't like this but it was only for a short time and when speaking with handlers understood the process. Looking closely at the handlers you can tell they care for there animals when giving breakfast all the handlers tasted the food first, they talked to the animals and they moved. After breakfast the elephants lead us down to the river where they were each washed, the washing was methodical and thorough. At the washing there were more spectators and there were questions, answers and laughs between the local visitors and handlers. At least one of the elephants was recently caught from the wild having hurt some people, I would rather see the elephant here than being shot. Several of the other elephants are more than 40 years old and been in captivity nearly there whole life. Of course the centre could do with more investment but from what I saw the staff do care for the elephants and without this centre I am unsure where the elephants would be.

You'll get Elephants butterflies, deers and lot of greenery. The river view and rock seats are good. There is a tree house also. Entrance fee 30 something for adults.

A wonderful place that you can visit while on the way to Munnar from Kochi! This wasn’t in our list of visiting places however our driver suggested us and believe me it was worth it! It’s technically a zoo but doesn’t look like the usual ones. You can see the elephants roaming around with their keepers and can play with them. There are other animals and birds as well kept in large places different from a regular zoo. Go visit once, you will like it 😊

This zoo is under Abhayaranyam echo system. Though mentioned as a zoo there are not very many animals. We found some deer’s left in an area free to move around. Also found some Mlav in another area. An area of butterfly garden and many medicinal plants

The place have around 9 elephants rescued from various places of Kerala. Kids will enjoy seeing the animals so closely. There is a enclosure where spotted deer and sambar deers were kept.

Good park with lots of varieties of trees including medicinal plants, birds, butterflies, deers and elephants. Entry ticket is there can spend 2-3 hrs. We can see elephant bathing some morning. Small kid elephants are there. Not maintained well. Foods are available outside.

Was not happy to experience the elephant trainer hitting the elephant with a stick to make it stand up after being washed I am appalled to think I visited this so called elephant sanctuary/hospital.
