We sailed through the iron gates at the hydro electric power station, which was impressive. Then into the gorge, with it's steep sides also the famous statue of Decebalus.

We went through the iron gate as part of a river cruise. It was beautiful and interesting to hear the history.

What a brilliant experience! Expert ship steering through majestic cliffs, with so much history, including a huge rock carving and a beautiful monastery. A 'must'.

This review is supposed to be for the experience from Romanian side, but since I cant find the equivalent for Serbia, i will just post my experience here
The Danube River spans the southeastern edge of Serbia / northwestern edge of Romania, as well as many other countries before and after it, before ending at Black Sea.
I drove the Danube Gorge / Iron Gates on the Serbian side, specifically from Kladovo (south) to Belgrade (north) in May 2023. It was a little rainy and foggy, but traffic is sparse.
On the Serbian side, road is slightly elevated at the southern end, so you have better vantage point of the gorge. Road becomes level with the river surface towards the north. Along the way are mostly small towns and villages, as well as turn-outs for photo opportunities
Interesting sites along this drive, from south to north, include
1) Fetislam Fortress
- newly restored, free entry
2) Hydroelectric power plant
- guided tour available
3) Tito Spomen Memorial park
- viewable from power plant parking lot. there is also a 10 min dirt trail up from the road
4) Tekija
- this is the departure point for many danube sightseeing cruise. not operating actively in May.
5) Trajan's Plaque
- viewable from water only, since it's on the Serbian Danube shore
6) Daclan Chief Decebalus Face
- the famous stone face. viewable from land and water.
7) Mraconia Monastery
- the famous monastery with Romanian flag, naturally, on Romanian Danube shore. viewable from land and water.
8) Boljetin River Canyon
- a quick detour on a one-lane road
9) Lepenski vir
- archaeological site worthy of 30 min
10) Golubac Fortress
- probably the most popular attraction on this side of the Danube River, with different ticket pricing based on access zones
11) Ramska Fortress
- small and compact, worth a 20 min stop
12) Archaeological Park Viminacium
- probably the best surprise for me. like this better than Lepenski Vir. tour is guided, with visits to 4 separate sites in the same vicinity. 1.5h visit at a minimum
13) Smederevo Fortress
- step sister to the Golubac Fortress
I suggest dedicating 2 full days to do this road trip

We were on an Eastern European River Cruise along the Danube. It is a beautiful stretch with different scenery - primarily because of the stone mountains. It is actually a pretty lengthy part of the Danube - not a particular point. Sit on the deck, relax, and enjoy the scenery.

The Iron Gates are the part of the gorge on the Danube separating Serbia from Romania. The steep walls of the canyon (gorge) give it almost a mystical beautiful appearance.

Buenas.
Muchas gracias por tu comentario,
¿Cómo llegaste hasta allí?
¿Desde qué ciudad ibas?
¿Habían muchos barcos para poder hacer la excursión?
En internet no encuentro nada.
¿Recuerdas cuánto te costó?
Gracias

Any recommendation on a B&B or hotel on the Serbian side of the Iron Gates, in or outside the Djerdap NP?

Hi
We are taking a river cruise with Select Explorer from Passau, Germany to Giurgiu, Romania. Am I correct to assume we will pass through the Iron Gates on the Danube. I am a bit confused as our cruise is offering a tour by bus of the Iron Gates? Not sure if it is just a money grab or if some River Cruises do not pass through this area. Looking at the map it looks like the only way to go!
Any information you have would be much appreciated.

We were on a Viking cruise and we did spend the day after visiting Belgrade cruising the gorge & Iron Gate en route to Bulgaria. . Maybe it is a bus tour to visit the lock system? (We did that when we went thru the Panama Canal.) I can only suggest you contact the cruise company with the question.
