Det er noget af en skuffelse. Sjovt at køre med bus helt ind i menen, så fik vi en sejltur på en lille bitte sø og blev derefter ført ind i et kæmpe lokale, der er lavet til musikscene og restaurant.

We were taken on a visit to the Bergatt mine during a Coastal Voyage with Hurtigruten. We were told it was a 'marble mine' and were expecting to see marble slabs being produced for worktops, tiles etc. However, the mine is a blasting and fine crushing operation to produce a powder additive for paper and paints, but we didn't actually see any of that. Instead we were shown a short film and taken on a short boat trip through flooded galleries. We arrived on a Saturday evening, the main hall was full so we had to view the film in a gallery right at the back of the hall. It was quite noisy and we couldn't hear the commentary very well. What we didn't realise was that a pop concert was being held in the hall so we couldn't view any exhibits or the gift shop. We were expecting to eat in theis hall but instead had soup served in some wet underground cavern. Not an enjoyable visit

We drove up to this place in a tour bus. The surrounding area is the usual beautiful Norway rural/farming landscape. Then you start up the mountain road and the bus drives right into the mountain. It is enormous in there. They have an underground lake and even a concert hall. You ride in a boat in the dark and they light up the water--it's pretty cool. They serve you super pure water from inside the mountain. The tour was led by the owner himself. He and his family (only 6 employees) run the whole place. We learned that their marble is an essential ingredient in glossy magazine paper. They also have a side business offering safe data storage inside the mountain. Fascinating:-D

The tour takes you on a funny little boat across a silent underground lake that fills this old mine, You glide along and see the beautiful marble walls and then go into an event hall where you are treated to miner's soup and an lively explanation of what it's like to run a modern marble mine. A really unique experience!

how long is the boat ride please? I am visiting next march

This trip iclude boatride , guiding and information on the geology and mining operation. Also an cinema film of the mining and food for those who have order in advanse. Total time 1,5 to 2 hours depends on size on group.
