‪Thol Bird Sanctuary is good gate away from Ahmedabad as it is just 30 km.

Being a bird sanctuary it is a photographer's paradise. However when we visited water level in the lake is very high so couldn't spot many birds. Generally bird can be spotted during winter time are Flamingo, Pelican, Coot Bird, Darter, Heron, Pheasant Tailed Jacana, Purple Moorhen, White Stork, Demoiselle Crane, Saras Crane, Indian Skimmer.

Natural vegetation and mangroove trees created small forest around lake. Entry fees for car is Rs.400 camera fees extra.

Reach early morning to spot the birds.‬

‪Diwali holidays....So planned to visit easily reachable places from ahmedabad where crowd will be less. Very close by place.. reached sharply at 6.00 am..Google map helped us. There was a board from the main road too.
400 rs for car and 3 people.
About the lake..It's a huge water body ...Lot of water..
It's essential to have a good binoculars. Lots of birds. Names are quite difficult to remember..There are bird watching places where birds picture with name is written .
Easily we can spend 3 hours there.
Planning to visit another time too‬

‪On our return from little Rann of Kutch we thought of visiting Thol bird sanctury about 40 km before Ahmedabad. As there had been late rains this winter the water body was too deep in water with the birds roosting far away . Could see Pelicans and flamingos but at quite a distance. However on the outskirts sunbirds , glossy ibis, bee eaters , Asian open bill were sighted . It is a nice place for birding but most people come for picnics and it becomes noisy.‬

‪Beautiful place nearly 25 km away from downtown Ahmadabad with good connection. Water level was very high hence small birds and few pelicans could be sighted. Nice vegetation and soiled trees created forest like ambience but visitors mostly believed in picnic concept rather than birding. Entry fees for car is very expensive and if you have one SLR, you will end up paying ₹700 for no facilities such as boats or other facilities for bird lovers as in Orissa or other place. Staff was not friendly and they stopped vehicle outside ain Gate without any sign or support.
You need to be there early morning and enjoy atmosphere but I always miss my interactions with Flamingos few years Back at the same spot.
A bit commercial place with more people not related to wildlife.‬

‪Disappointed trip‬

‪Google maps route ended us at a gate no more used for Thol. Made us travel for another 6/7 kilometers. No proper signage on the roads. We had to ask around and hardly anybody knew the place. Not many species seen around. Lady who issued us told us that the water level was full and we not see many birds.‬
