Lieu charmant à l’extérieur, avec une jolie petite cour.
Points négatifs : peu d’explication tant pour trouver l’entrée du monastère qu’à l’intérieur du lieu ce qui nuit à la compréhension du site + une boutique garnit qui équivaut à la taille de l’exposition du monastère.
Pour conclure, pourquoi pas mais pas indispensable (surtout pour 4€, ça a l’air peu cher mais pour le contenu c’est cher).

Non particolarmente interessante, ma certo, essendo in zona merita una visita. Ingresso 4 euro, potrebbe costare anche meno

Auf dem Weg zum Palmenstrand Vai kommt man unweigerlich am Kloster Toplou vorbei.
Direkt am Straßenrand befindet sich ein relativ großer Parkplatz.
Das Kloster selbst ist recht schön. Hier gibt es, im Gegensatz zum Lasithi Plateau, wenigstens noch eine "heile" Windmühle.
Der Innenhof ist besonders schön.
Restaurant ist auch vorhanden.
Direkt am Straßenrand befindet sich ein relativ großer Parkplatz.

Das schön Kloster aus dem 14. Jahrhundert befindet sich rund 20 Fahrminuten östlich von Sitia auf einem trockenen Hochplateau. Das kleine, aber eindrückliche Ikonenmuseum ist die 2 Euro Eintritt auf alle Fälle wert. Es gibt auch ein nettes, Schatten spendendes Restaurant.

L'environnement est plutôt dénudé: arbustes, buissons, quelques oliviers, le monastère est de style simple, bâti au sommet d'une colline. Petites cours intérieures, avec un cactus de 6, 7 mètres de hauteur qui courent dans le coin des murs, un musée, des icônes anciennes à l'intérieur de l'église, certaines du 16è siècle.
Un moine y vit en permanence. j'ai eu la chance d'assister à un baptême orthodoxe avec tout le rituel afférent. Très intéressant sur le plan anthropologique.

A big disappointment after travelling about 100 kms to see it. The church, museum and winery were closed to the public and the 'monks' were away elsewhere; only the cafe was open that serves drinks and snacks at high prices and sells their wine almost twice the price you can buy it in a local shop or supermarket. This place is nothing like how it is portrayed on their website. A real shame. Perhaps, opening dates should be stated clearly on website.

As a fortified Monastery in a prominent position it stands out. I actually thought it was smaller than I imagined with the main structure being quite a small square high walled box. This leads to high defendible walls. It is situated on a high plateau surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. There is ample parking and there is a small fee to enter. Internally there is a lovely courtyard with rooms off - most being used as museum space. The private quarters are above ground level. Check out the cactus plants!!
The museum has many fine icons, a selection of reasonable old books showing pictures and maps. Items used in the resistance (WW2) - loved the No 19 set! I do think many items lack a description or a fuller reasoning (in English) for being displayed but that could be my lack of written Greek!
Outside the main building is a shop selling their wares (wine/olive oil) and an old windmill.

Visite limitée, mais salle avec de très belles icônes et jolie cour intérieure fleurie. Petite boutique de souvenirs sympa.

Entrée a 4€, pour visiter deux pièces. Pas d'explication. Beaucoup d'images et d'objets non expliquer, les dates ne sont pas inscrites. La personne a l'accueil non agréable, qui ne sourit pas.
Cependant bel édifice mais l'histoire manque.

A disappointment. Don’t get me wrong - it is a holy place and the church is beautiful and there are some impressive and miraculous icons.
But the place isn’t orgazised well and the shop is so much expensive than other monastery shops. This year I’ve been in several monasteries here in Crete: Kera Karditiotissa, Faneromeni, Paliani, Arkadi and Agia Irini. Touplou seems to be the most expensive. And some of the icons they sell are from Russia with slavic texts. Why?
And the toilets. Only squat toilets! Not a real ones. Really, in 2020’s? Toplou monastery is extremely wealthy, they own all the Land and the areas around including Vai Palm Beach! And they have no money to decent tourist toilets? Sorry to say but seems a bit a tourist trap to me.

Buongiorno, ho letto su una guida che il 26 settembre è il giorno della festa al Monastero. Poiché saremo a Creta in quella settimana gradirei sapere se qualcuno può darmi qualche informazione in più, per capire se vale la pena di trovarsi lì proprio quel giorno. Grazie!
