A slightly hidden gem. Down a narrow lane, ignoring the carpark sign, crossing a small bridge, and turning left into a small carpark. Here, you find the architect designed 'takeaway' pod and some accommodation pods.
At the takeaway pod, the coffee was great, there was food available, and the toilets were the cleanest we had seen all day (50p charge for the key). There is also a shower for those hardier biking / walking types.
The boats kept going through the lock for background interest, and there are lovely walks along the canal / river, which the dog enjoyed.

I believe we were lucky because just as we got there the locks opened for 2 boats to pass and we could see them in operation.

We stopped here on our trip from Uig to Ft. William, driving ⅛ mile off A82 and parking within sight of the lock. Luckily a motorboat was working its way through this center point of this 1822 60 mile Caledonian Canal that crosses the Highlands. Beautiful canal and boat views on a clear day.

I undertook portage through here whilst doing Great Glen Way as it joins two locks. The walk trail passes alongside and the A82 also. Peace full grounds with a little history so ideal to stop and stretch legs or even camp.

This is a lovely spot where we stopped hoping for coffee. Unfortunately despite the sign saying that it opened at 9am there was still no sign of life even at 9.35 so we left to find somewhere more reliable.

Lovely area along the Great Glen Way. The locks themselves are interesting and there is a small cafe just next to it. The view over Loch Lochy is beautiful and there is a pub nearby.

If you are interested in the Caledonian Canal, this is a great stop off point to view one of the massive locks built to accommodate the differing heights of water flow in the canal. Beautiful views of the canal, the lock, and the surrounding area including Ceann Loch.
