When we heard about Lisgar gardens in Hornsby it was much to our surprise as we had never heard of it even though having been residents n the Hornsby Shore for more than 6 years. A HIDDEN GEM in Hornsby for sure! Not too big but enough to enjoy and appreciate and spend few hours if you pack a picnic. Easy to get to and there is some seating and a lovely undercover wide open area. Just beware of leeches. Limited opening hours.

Wander down the paths into the valley through beautifully landscaped gardens and tall stands of trees visit the pond with its magnificent koi carp; but you need to be fit. Lisgar Gardens is set on a hillside and you will need to be in reasonable healthy to negotiate the steep paths and steps.
It's always a delight to visit, but especially in Spring.

Best time to visit is in Spring when all the Camellia, Azaleas and other flowers are in flower. This garden is quite hidden, down a cliff in a suburban street in Hornsby. It’s steep and there are not a lot of parking spots out the front, can park in nearby streets, but it was a really beautiful way to spend an hour wandering around. There are lots of stairs, so not great if you are less mobile. There is an inclinator that you need to book thru the local council to get access to.

Covering an area of 2.6 hectares, on a steep hillside on different levels, boasts 90 varieties of camellia and mass plantings of annuals in the formal gardens. There is 3 waterfalls, a shade house with fishponds and a lovely arena to have a picnic and a rainforest walk. There is an inclination for disabled access.

Lawns and stonework amidst the plants towards the top, then rougher paths winding down into the valley to a waterfall through big old trees and new plantings. Lots of tables to have a picnic with the wildlife. Must be good when they have the concerts and festivals. Old lamps line the lower paths which could be great if they opened at night. I don’t expect they’re on outside the short opening hours but, if you want to explore then, the back path from Frederick St has no gate...

Went here with friends & it is a lovely place to visit near Hornsby, very well maintained & only a short walk from Hornsby Station, we went to Hornsby RSL For morning tea walked to gardens & then back to RSL for lunch which was also lovely, a lovely day out.

Beautiful for a long or short walk, perfect wedding ceremony venue too. Very clean and looked after. Take something to drink with you, especially on a hot day. Highly recommended!

These gardens are magnificent and a hidden attraction in Hornsby. Went to a wedding there recently and it was gorgeous. Never knew it existed. There is lots of shade and easy walking, but some parts are steep. There are waterfalls and wonderful gardens and you could bring a picnic and spend a whole day there and never get bored.

This hidden little piece of tranquillity was a lovely place to wander on a warm Sydney afternoon. Waterfalls, fish and plenty of beautiful gardens to admire. Peaceful

Is Lisgar garden disabled friendly?

Best is to phone Hornsby Council - 02 9847 6666 - to ensure the gardener (Monday to Friday) or a volunteer of the Friends of Lisgar Gardens (Sundays) will be able to operate the inclinator (it's a kind of lift) as the garden is on a slope.
Once you're down, a big part of the garden is disabled friendly.
