Beautiful gardens with tropical plants! Overlooking Sydney Opera House and free. Highly recommend a visit - it was one of our favourite bits!

Didnt finish walking the whole park. Very beautiful scenic place good for a walk/jog in the right weather. Situated close to the train station too

Fantastic walk, minutes away from the Opera House. The different gardens are perfectly kept, it is a real pleasure to discover the various types of trees, roses, bushes...even different types of grass. Absolutely must do!

As a gardener, I found our tour guide Anne’s knowledge extremely informative. She proudly took us on an hour plus walk through the historical trees of the gardens, naming each while sharing anecdotal uses for many of them. It was amazing to learn there are nearly 1,000 species of eucalyptus but koalas only eat 7 of them. The lush Palm Grove is planted with over 300 species and is a mecca for students. Anne also shared wonderful Australian history with us as the park, created in 1816, has seen Sydney grow dramatically. We wish the gardens and Anne all the best!

Sydney's extensive botanic gardens are looking very fine indeed at the moment as Spring arrives. Some interesting plantings and many lovely blooms. Definitely worth a stroll for both gardeners and non-gardeners.

Came here to see what there version of a botanical garden is like and it was very good there were different sections to see and it was a very large garden takes a good few hours to see most of it

The Botanic Garden in Sydney is a wonderful place to spend a day just wandering around and enjoying all that's on offer. The other day we visited and noticed a really wonderful work of art. It was a monumental bara.
Fish hooks (bara) were crafted and used by Indigenous women for thousands of generations. They would fish from their canoes in the harbour, hauling in catches with bara tied with bush string, to cook on open fires.
The bara art work, located on the Tarpeian Precinct Lawn of the Royal Botanic Gardens, has a gleaming finish reminiscent of local seashells. Its crescent shape reflects the shapes of the moon, the coves of the harbour, the sails of the Sydney Opera House and the arch of the Harbour Bridge.
This artwork is a powerful expression of Aboriginal cultures.
It’s an unusual and interesting work of art and worth a look.

It was a rainy day so we decided to take the bus tour around the garden. It was just us two behind Eli, the tour guide. The garden is absolutely gorgeous and Eli is an amazing guide. You can sense his passion for nature and he showed us around, answering our questions and even took a few pictures of us.
Realising that the best way to experience the garden is to actually walk through it, we spent a good hour walking across the garden after our tour. Would highly recommend if you want to take things easy and enjoy the breadth of what nature has to offer. High praise for the garden keepers too!

These gardens are vast, beautiful and so interesting. Take a relaxing amble away from the hustle and bustle of Sydney. Great views of the city, the bridge and the opera house.

Is there a fee to see the botanic garden

There is no fee, which is great. It is actually more like a giant park that you walk around at your own pace. There are some plant labels, but not as many as at other botanic gardens I have been to in other countries and in the USA.

I am here in Sydney and want to visit Royal Botanic Garden Sydney
but before going , i need some help to clarify some doubts
1. What is the best / nearest bus stop ?
2. What time of the day is good to visit to get the full view of Opera House and Harbour Bridge (sun light on it when viewed from garden )
3. Any entrance Fee? or Free entry?

There is a bus (441 from Queen Victoria Building every half hour), which stop almost at a gate of the botanical gardens in Art Gallery Drive. Or you could stay on the bus and go to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair and walk along rather flat by the harbour into the gardens. The Main Gate is in Macquarie Street. Or you could enter just near the Opera House. It depends where you are coming from. I like to catch the bus from QVB because my bus from home stops there and I can get the bus. I think if you haven’t been to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair headland it’s the best place to take pictures of the Ooera House and the Harbour Bridge together and AM is the best time for photographs. From here walk through the gardens for as long as you like. Down on the flat is the lily pond but explore and find the rose gardens and the Greenhouse as well as the performance space (there is often something going on there. The Greenhouse usually has an Art Exhibition on. Many of the trees were planted when Sydney was first settled. The restaurant is very nice but there is also a snack bar or take a picnic! When you have had enough, walk up hill towards the left if you want to catch the bus back to QVB or over to the top right (when you are looking up from the Harbour) and this will take you to Macquarie Street

Can you please tell me if there are enough seats for everyone who buys tickets to the Point NYE? We are a family of 5 and really don't want to line up early as we only have a couple of days in Sydney and want to go sightseeing during the day. Do you recommend a blanket or do you think we can find a table to sit together? thanks!!!

Yes the entry to the garden is free. And I’m not absolutely sure but if I remember well, the Vivid lights event is free as well ! Enjoy :)
