We enjoyed the history, not only of the buildings, monuments and parks but also of the Greeters personal history in the city. Even his re-purposed school buildings.
It is just such a pity, a sad indictment perhaps, that casinos have taken up residence in some and new casino funded construction begins to dominate the skyline of Brisbane!

Ross était très accueillant, il nous a fait découvrir sa ville avec beaucoup de gentillesse. Il a un faible pour la botanique!

I wasn't sure whether this would be our thing -- we're a middle-aged couple from the States, and we tend to read quite extensively about the history and culture of a place before we go. But we got to go on a Greeter's Choice tour with Tina (after five days in the city) and she showed us exactly the kinds of nooks, crannies, and odd treasures that make a city really open up for visitors.
It was an easy, looping walk around the city center with a mix of fun, out-of-the-way places, dishy local history (the fun but verifiable kind), insight into how Brisbane works (the public art schemes and street art were a particular highlight), and personal attention to what each person might find interesting. This was, by far, the best use of our time on a really wonderful trip and I wish that we'd done it on our first day.

This was a last minute booking and was a wonderful tour. We did the 21st Century tour with some (quite a bit) history thrown in. Ian was a terrific tour guide and had answers to all of our questions. Am going to do another tour in the near future with other friends. Love out City Hall and the Eco/tech building (Suncorp) was amazing as are the bridges.

Sue gave an excellent tour. A must do when visiting Brisbane. We finished the tour with an organ concert at Brisbane City Hall.

The City of Brisbane directly offers free walking tours of the City, and unlike other free walking tours offered by private companies, these are actually free. They are conducted by volunteers hired by the City. The tour starts out front of City Hall and commences with a brief overview of the exterior and then a few minutes of the interior of City Hall. The tour proceeds around the city, and covers all the major historical and otherwise important sites. Our tour guide was Sue, and not only was she a lifelong resident of Brisbane, she was also a former municipal employee. She was able to give us a deep, personal tour complete with anecdotes spanning her entire life from her childhood to her career with the City and beyond. At almost every stop we made, she had a personal story to tell about it, and at places she didn’t have directly personal stories to tell, she nonetheless had a wealth of relevant information about the place that happened throughout her life. Definitely recommended, especially if you want a much more personal walking tour than what you can get in other cities.

Excellent experience...Fish Lane and West End...Roy was clear and a nice steady pace stopped at points if interest..U can recommend Brisbane Greeters..

I want to thank Jill who guided us on Friday 7th July 2023. She was very enthusiastic to share with us about Brisbane, its history and architecture. Jill is very warm and hospitable with the group and wanted to know everyone's interest. Jill is knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what she does. Above all, I think the Brisbane City Greeters is an amazing service to promote tourism as all greeters are doing so on a voluntary basis. I want Jill to know to keep up the excellent work she is doing!

Our guide Terry was absolutely amazing. He had such a wealth of knowledge, was exceptionally friendly and was in no rush. We initially booked the standard Brisbane tour which was cancelled because our guide got sick. By chance, we met Terry in his blue shirt in front of the city hall and he was happy to take us to his Brisbane history tour. It was awesome. Terry combined the hard facts and numbers with modern day hints and places to visit after the tour. We learnt heaps about the city and got some very interesting insights. Due to his awareness he even spotted a cute sleeping ring-tailed possum in one of the trees in the city botanical gardens.
We would recommend this tour to anyone visiting or even living in Brisbane. You will learn something new, no matter how long you've been in Brisbane for.

Great free tour with Graham our guide. He showed us various things around Brisbane city and talked about its history.
Points of interest included QUT and the old governors house, the botanic gardens, ANZAC square and the cathedral. Lots of little historical facts and modern facts too! Would recommend.
Kids enjoyed it too even if we walked about 4.5k!

How do we book a greeter?

Thank you for contacting the Brisbane Greeters Program. You can book our Greets through our website, which you can reach through clicking on the website icon on our tripadvisor page or googling Brisbane Greeters and it is on the Visit Brisbane website. There you will find all of our different Greet options, information and the booking forms.

Can anyone let me know if there are transportation from the cruise terminal other than taxi to downtown Brisbane?
Hi Alberto D,
Thanks for contacting the Brisbane Greeters Program. We have 2 cruise terminals here in Brisbane - The Port of Brisbane (FI Grain Terminal) and Portside.
If you are arriving into the Port of Brisbane, the cruise liner normally organises shuttle buses for passengers which drop off in Brisbane CBD. If you are arriving into Portside, you can catch public transport into the City - one of the best ways to get into the City is via our CityCat along the beautiful Brisbane River.
If you are unsure of which terminal you will be arriving into, please feel free to private message us with the name of the ship you will be travelling on, and the date you will be arriving in Brisbane and we can provide this information to you. We are also happy to answer any other questions you may have about Brisbane.

To join our Brisbane Greeters experience you can book via our website. You can find this link on our TripAdvisor Page.
Our Greeter's Choice Greets depart at 10:00am from King George Square (in front of Brisbane City Hall) seven days a week. You do need to pre-book however, and can do so via our website. We also require at least 3 days' booking notice.
Once you have filled out our booking form, we will send you an email with your confirmation details. Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to send us an email (our email is on our TripAdvisor Page).

You will have to go online and search for Brisbane Greeters and fill in their form. They will ask you about your interests and any physical limitations. Then you can express a choice of either what you want to do or what the greeter's choose.. We did greete'rs choice. We met at a main downtown historic location. Sometimes the greeter will meet you at your hotel. The greeter will be wearing a red tee shirt with the Greeter logo.My husband and I were very pleased with the experience even though it rained throughout. It gave us historical background as well as practical hints on how to use the public transit system to travel independently. Trudy from Pittsburgh, Pa
