I love a zoo and all the wonderful animals, however Adelaide Zoo could use a facelift both with the enclosures but also the way everything is laid out. A few of the enclosures where empty (and only Tiger exhibit was notified as being closed, when I arrived at the Zoo - bit late then). Water fountains were scare and $6 for a small bottle of generic water is just not on - please do better, as everyone enjoys going to a Zoo so the more attractive it is the more people will come.

This was my first time visiting Monarto. what a fabulous place to go and see the animals so close in a habitat close to their own.

Deeply impressed with Monarto. First time there, now newly renovated. Excellent volunteer guides, amazing animal experiences. I was stunned by their commitment to animal preservation, second to none in my opinion. Catering facilities need to get in line with the rest of the park though. Slow service and not enough staff to cater for large crowds. Stupidly expensive too - $5 for a small bottle of water for eg. Apart from that Monarto is fantastic and so worth the trip. Adelaide Zoo however needs to close. Move everything from the city to Monarto. The zoo is old and tired, and most of the decent animals have gone. Don't waste your time.

We had the absolute best time, we had the Rhino experience where we learned so much and Mum even go to operate the gate sending the male out.
we all had lunch in the cafe which was delightful, then, my favourite part of the day was the Giraffe experience, a time I will never forget and hopefully get to relive many times.

We were actually a family of 4 kids 52-60 and our Mum who turned 80 last October.

We pre-purchased tickets online, printed and presented upon arrival.
No queues. It was monday morning.
The reptile section was worth a look. The black/white panda was indoor behind reflective glass and difficult to see. The red panda was easy to view - traversing the wired tunnels. We did spot of glimpse of the sea lion feeding.
Forcwhatever reason, the zoo did not seem fully functional or operational.
Giraffe section closed off. Lions asleep. Couldn’t see the hippos. Spotted a lone tiger, at a distance, crazily doing laps of its enclosure. And a penguin swimming madly in circles.
Sadly, it was not an especially memorable day for our young boy. The highlight was probably the hot chips at the café.

This was a fun zoo with a lot of animals and displays. We enjoyed seeing the lion, giraffe, panda, etc. As it was hot many of the animals were hiding in cooler spots, not visible to visitors. The zoo is laid out randomly but they have a good map...I recommend the map so you don't miss anything. There is at least one good cafe with reasonable prices and good food...and plenty of toilets. Be sure to watch the free bird show.

Kleiner und in die Jahre gekommener Zoo, man muss zwischen all den Pflanzen die Tiere regelrecht suchen. In jedem Gehege sind wenn überhaupt 1-2 Tiere und die sind meistens nicht zu sehen. Es hat sich angefühlt wie ein Zoo ohne Tiere, auch die grossartig beworbenen Pandas waren nicht zu sehen, sondern lagen mit der Aufzucht in ihrem Haus zu dem Besucher keinen Zugang haben. Die Tiere die man sah, waren sehr apathisch und schienen nicht gut gepflegt. Und für das alles auch noch 40$ Eintritt zu verlangen ist einfach nur Abzocke.

We did our Lion 360 experience on Saturday & it was wonderful!!! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and have raved about and recommended it to friends and family. The photo opportunities were amazing.
Kees (Kerry Lee) was our guide and she was excellent. She has got us eager to return soon and do the Lion bedtime experience!!
We also eagerly look forward to spending time at the new hotel when it opens… so much to look forward to.

Fantastic visit as we saw all the animals we particularly wanted to see although one of the pandas hid most of the time, did get some good photos of Wang Wang and their resident orangutan posed with it’s blanket before silently drifting away. The bird avaries were fantastic too and the lyrebird was amazing.

the zoo isn't as big as expected so i only took about 1.5hrs+/- to finish seeing all the animals. cutest animal there were the otters.

Can you get one-year card from the gate? And when is the best time of the day to visit as when animals are active and responsive?

you can purchase a card for Adelaide zoo. or Monarto zoo each or a 2 zoo pass which is cheaper than buying 2 separate zoo passes. I always say go first thing in the morning as it takes time to get all around the Adelaide zoo. wear good comfortable shoes. spring is the best time of year to go for our weather but if going in summer definitely in the morning for your own comfort and the animals as well.
Can you entre the zoo from Frome Road?

No you can’t. You must enter from the Plane Tree Drive entrance where there are car parks.

We parked on the street which I think was 4 hours. Not very expensive. We got there just on opening times to avoid the crowds and the heat so there was heaps of parking available. And just a few minutes walk.

How long would you allow for a couple visiting the zoo? I saw one person said you could do it in a day, but I'm looking for something a little more specific....

Hi. I would allow about 5-6 hours. There is a lot to see and some of the animals get more active as the day goes by so they can be worth a second look. There are also animal feeding and keeper talks throughout the day so you might want to factor that into how much time you allow. You should also allow time for lunch at one of the lovely cafes

Sorry, we were at Adelaide Zoo not Melbourne Zoo - but i believe the Gorilla encounter is wonderful
