Interesting historical walk. I also took the opportunity to chat with a father and daughter who were fishing off a wharf near one of the sculpture points. Australians are very friendly, generally, and pleased to chat with visitors. They have a relaxing attitude toward life. As the father replied as I wished them luck, "It's called fishing, not catching".

We went looking for this trail and stumbled across it but not at the beginning. The “sculptures” are simply numbers and most are quite boring to look at. However, the information about the numbers are rather interesting. But you have to a good imagination to visualise the descriptions. The start point is at the end of Salamanca Place (furthest from Hobart CBD) and you finish a few kilometres away almost at Wrest Point. In summary… The history is good - the sculptures are not!

We were staying at Battery Point and enjoyed the sculpture trail. It was a pleasant walk that provided an insight into the history of the area. Two great pieces of trivia were sculptures 313 - number of boats launched in the 1800s from Battery Point shipyards and 1909 - the year Errol Flynn birth at Sandy Bay. A further benefit was the option to stop for a coffee in Battery Point and a drink at Salamanca.

Good way to see Hobart and activity. Beautiful walk around the area and nice little food places along the way if you get hungry.

Interesting and informative walk with some great scenery. There is some walking up and down hills.

The Sculpture Trail incorporates nine different sculptures or information boards that have a story about a time, a date, a weight, a quantity or something else that links to that particular place. We found most to be very interesting.
We started this approximately 2 kilometre Trail just along from Salamanca Place and then followed the waterfront (Castray Esplanade) along next to the CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research Building then onto AJ White Park. We then walked up a rather steep section of Finlay Street before stopping for a coffee at Perch in Hampden Road.
We then followed it again along Clarke Avenue and Marine Terrace before a rather steep ascent down Derwent Lane to the waterfront.
We passed some lovely (and a few not so lovely) old houses and pubs and took in some good views of the Derwent Estuary.
Perhaps the most interest structure that we found was not a sculpture but the official Finishing Line Booth for the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race which was just near the CSIRO Building.

Loved spending time in Battery Point following the sculpture trail. Make sure you keep your fluids up by stopping at the gorgeous old pubs along the way!

This walk is through an area of charming housing with one notable excrescence and the occasional blot but generally, attractive cottages and houses, good costal views, a lovely church and numerous cafes and restaurants, well worth a visit.

A wonderful walk around a beautiful historical neighbourhood. Waves from home owners along with the sounds of birds in the various old cottage gardens made this a glorious way to spend a Spring afternoon.

The sculpture trail is a great idea and a great excuse to wander some of the most beautiful parts of old Hobart.
Battery Point is the oldest part of Hobart and was home to ship builders, whalers, seamen and everything that you would expect from a wild old seafaring outpost. The area is simply full of stunning period home, almost universally maintained to perfection and many with priceless water views.
The sculpture trail itself is a good workout, this is not flat country! Online & printed info could be better, but we managed and as I said, it was a good way to get out for a good walk in a pretty special part of the world.

Battery point itself is a nice neighborhood so you could walk around and enjoy the buildings, the water fronts, and also on clear-days the view to Mt. Wellington. Salamanca market (only on Saturdays) and Salamanca place area is nice with plenty of diners and cafes. From Salamanca place you could easily walk to Brooke St Jetty areas. There is dedicated shuttle to go to Mt. Wellington which could be booked at the tourist information centre. If you go to information centre there is 'Tours Tasmania' company which provides many day tours option (start as early as 7-am pick up and return to Hobart in the evening round 6-7 pm, check out the brochure which is available there). Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery is just very close to the information centre and it's free entry. If you would like to do some 'museum marathon', the Maritime museum (with entry fee) is also nearby and the Mawson's Hut (with entry fee) is right at the corner. Another option is the art museum MONA (also with entry fee for tickets and trip there could be via a dedicated ferry or shuttle, tickets could be purchased at their counter inside the Brooke St Jetty). Port Arthur is another good historical site but you might need to book a tour there combined with other destinations to seize the day (I tried the 'Port Arthur & Tassie Devils' day tour and quite like it). If you are into some walk-amongst-nature, visit the Royal Botanical gardens (1-2 hours inside is sufficient). My faves are the Japanese garden and the sub-arctic house. From inside the garden there is great view to the Tasman Bridge as well. Regarding the day-tour, I also like the 'Mt Field, Mt Wellington & Bonorong' day-tour, with some light range of walking inside the trails and a visit to Bonorong wildlife sanctuary. I hope you could use some ideas now to explore and enjoy Hobart.

Do you have a lift, please? I see one review mentions "lugging suitcase upstairs".
