Some very beautiful handmade goods. However, everything is very pricey. Long gone are the days of getting a bargain at a market.

Saturday market is not to be missed. Hundreds of vendors, most of which were local. Goods, handicrafts, food, wine, liquor and almost anything you can think of Some shirts only $10 AUS.
Music and more.

Wondered whether these markets would be all that they are cracked up to be, but pleased to say, it was worth the visit. If you are in Hobart on a Saturday it is worth going.
We only had a limited time to peruse the markets before a flight, but we got to see lots of interesting foods/drinks with samples to try including fudge, popcorn, nuts, mead & gin. Beautiful wood products using Huon pine and other woods. Lots of craft stalls selling their own handmade wares. Lots of food trucks selling interest products too.
Very nice craft/food markets. Stall holders friendly. Easy walk from anywhere in the middle of town. (Parking can be a challenge or expensive in central Hobart). Allow at least an hour, preferably longer (Stalls seem to go on forever!)

If you enjoy outdoor markets, this is the place for you. There was lots of good food to try, as well as booze and coffees. The wares/crafts that were for sale were very high quality items. Great people watching too! A fun way to spend a Saturday morning!

Close to picturesque Battery point this is a spacious outdoormarket actually worth your while!
The stalls are eclectic, wooden products, arts and handicraft as well as interesting fashion and good food to eat as well as take home. ( or picnic on in the little park next to market)
Lot’s of people but doesn’t feel crowded, a general friendliness prevails.

The varieties of items sold in the market are big.
There are sufficient food stores to provide you with a good brunch.
Lots of items available for sale and with reasonable prices.
Great place to spend a nice Saturday morning.
Tip: Do not drive there, as parking lots are very limited

Family of 5 (teenage girls 14, 16, 18) spent 3 hours wandering around. Can recommend scallops on stick and the freshly shucked oysters from Bruny island were simply the best ever! Especially since we couldn’t make it to Bruny island. Great park with shade to sit and relax or eat something from the many stalls. Lots of variety. Was a great way to spend the morning before we headed to Port Arthur.

I never miss this market when in Hobart.
The setting is amazing with such a variety of local crafts and foods.
Always busy and bustling so ensure you have time to do a few laps.
Everyone is so friendly and plenty of tasting for the local produce.
Take a large bag that’s for sure.
In my opinion a world class market.

This will be something you will do in Hobart. It is very crowded and touristy but good if you want to buy gin and wooden items!

Does the stalls accept only cash or can payment be made via eftpos?

Hi, depends on the stall, but there is more than one stall selling the same or similar wares you shouldn't have a problem with either
Hi! is Salmanca market open on easter Saturday?

Are you open on Saturday 28 Dec 2019. We are on a cruise that stops at Port Arthur and would love to go to markets that day. How do we get therr

Am unsure if open but they usually open every Saturday. Port Arthur is a very long way from the markets though.
Are all of the market stalls open all year round, or are the stall numbers reduced in the colder months? Thanks

Only experienced the summer market but as a lot of the stalls were food, liquor and wood products then they would have no trouble with a change of season. An extremely good market. Plenty of variety.

Can dogs walk in the market area?? Ours would be on leads and are very well trained behaved.

I don’t think there’s any rule against having dogs there, especially since they are on leads and well behaved. However, you may need to pick them up and carry them at times as it gets extremely crowded and difficult to move. There’s people moving in all directions in quite a narrow space between stalls and I think your dogs would be constantly getting caught up or trodden on. The crush of people at the Markets makes it very hot for people, let alone dos. Take some water with you for yourselves and the dogs. Along Salamanca Terrace there are numerous restaurants, cafes and hotels with outside covered seating where you could stop and relax as well as the park at one end. This ipark is large with huge trees and lots of shade though no seats so you may need a rug to sit on the grass.
Hey all, we are travelling to Hobart 3rd Feb ...we are hiring a car till 12th Feb..no accomodation booked yet, whats others experiences and dos and donts and if anyone can advise how they travelled around Tassie in a rental car and accomodation along the way...TIA
