‪Scenic area in lush Mt Dandenong‬
نوفمبر 2019
‪Came here with family for a day out to do the 1,000 steps track. It had something for everyone as not all could do the challenging walk. Some opted to stay at the playground and some did the easy track. There were lots of people for a weekday and a large school group but it did not deter the experience we all had which was enjoyable. Topped it off with lunch at the cafe on site.‬

‪What a beautiful part of Melbourne, just one hours drive from the CBD in the Dandenong ranges national park. This climb is not for all as the 1000 steps (known as the Kakoda track) are step and slippery, the views and experience are well worth the physical pain. There are water fountains too and bottom and a cafe in the car park. Be prepared to get hot and sticky as the climb really increases the heart rate. Don’t rush to the toilets as the cleaners don’t know that the seats need to be cleaned top and underneath. Allow 80 minutes for the return trip. ‬

‪Challenging walk‬
الأصدقاء • أبريل 2018
‪Came here on the school holidays about 9.30 and while there was lots of cars and people here already we easily got a park.

Walked the steep hill to the bottom of the steps - probably about 15 minutes from the car park to the actual 1000 steps.

The walk was quite challenging - lots of opportunities to stop along the way and we saw lots of body shapes, sizes and ages doing the walk - one thing we all had in common - on the way up the steps, everyone was puffing. I exercise five days a week and got quite sweaty and my heart rate got up and it was not a hot day.

The views along the way up were really nice, we also got to see a female lyre bird. When we finished the track there was not anything special about the views, but reading on here it seems there was nice views if we had continued on another ten minutes or so.

Much easier on the way down!

I would recommend this walk and if I lived nearby I would do it regularly as a fitness thing.‬

‪Don't stop at the top!‬
زوجان • مارس 2018
‪My husband and I recently did the 1000 steps Kakoda track on Mt Dandenong. It was a Saturday morning and quite crowded, but still OK. The memorials to the soldiers who fought on the Kakoda Trail in PNG in WWII made for interesting reading. They also provided convenient stopping points to catch our breath. The displays and statues were well done. It took us 45 minutes to get to the top of the steps. BUT we continued on another 10 minutes to One Tree Hill - a leisurely stroll - and had lovely views out across the mountain ranges into the valleys beyond.
At One Tree Hill we also had the delight of watching and listening to a number of kookaburras in full song. Also further story boards about the Kakoda soldiers, and time to reflect with gratitude on those who sacrificed for this great country we enjoy.
I would recommend the extension to One Tree Hill for anyone choosing to climb the steps. Little extra effort for a big gain.

The only downside was parking, and to park legally and safely, we had to park 15 minutes walk from the entrance. Obviously the earlier or later you get there the better for car parking. The cafe at the bottom was open but we had taken our own picnic so didn't use it.‬

‪An Easy Walk‬
الأصدقاء • يناير 2018
‪Took some visitors from Overseas there during January on our way to Puffing Billy. Was a weekday during school holidays about 10.30am quite humid not to hot. Was a bit concerned what I had done as everyone was in gym clothing we were just dressed for a day out. Nothing to hard about the walk take your time or run up depending on your level of fitness. If you keep going at the top there is a memorial to Kokoda no view also a picnic area . A group of girls had walked up then setup a little picnic on the table, which was a nice use of park facilities . There will always be someone there to take your photo , there is a café however it was not open .‬

‪Great in the wet!‬
العائلة • ديسمبر 2017
‪I went to the thousand steps this morning in the wet and light rain. I'd recommend doing it in this weather as there is not many people in your way and plenty of under cover bbq. Track wasn't slippery much either.‬

‪Not too tough but no view at the finishing line ‬
الأصدقاء • مايو 2017
‪Quite easy to park the car near by.

Managed to finish a round trip within an hour or so. Good to see lots of greens.

The track is quite busy actually, and was a bit disappointed after finishing the steps as I were expecting some good views on the top. Literally it is not up to the top of the mountain yet when you finish those 1000 steps.

One point to note, dogs are prohibited in this track. ‬

‪Parking‬
الأصدقاء • يناير 2017
‪On the weekend I went to the thousands steps. Being a nice day and a weekend it was very busy as is to be expected so the carpark was completely full. My friend and I found a park on the side of the road that appeared to be OK to park in. There were at least twenty other cars parked in that section, it was safe and in no way impeding oncoming traffic.
On return to my car after the walk I found a police officer sticking a parking infringement notice to the front of my car and well as about six or seven cars in front and behind me in that section. The fine was for $155 for parking in a 'No Standing' zone. As I mentioned earlier when we parked it appeared to be somewhere you were allowed to park. It was in a long line of cars and for some reason it was only the last seven or so cars that were fined. If it had just been my car that received a fine I would understand, however considering I was one of several cars I think it is clear that the signage in the area is inadequate. I was in no rush on the day so would have easily done a few more slow laps until another car park came up. I also visited early in the morning so would be interested to find out how many other people were stung for the same thing throughout that day. You would think at peak times like the weekend there would be a plan in place to accommodate for the extra traffic. I live in Melbourne and often visit the steps so I wonder how foreign travellers would go if I struggled to notice the signs.
I am very disappointed and this experience has ruined somewhere I love to visit.‬

‪1000 Steps for Crysta‬
الأصدقاء • نوفمبر 2016
‪Tree Fern Gully Track (no relation to Fern Gully movie sadly) was an enchanting hike for us recently when in the Melbourne CBD. Do the 1000 steps but be sure to know your limits and take your time if you need to, they can be challenging even for able bodied folk like us. There is lots of beautiful green space as well so you should bring a picnic and enjoy some time here.‬

‪Beautiful and challenging‬
العائلة • سبتمبر 2016
‪Such a beautiful spot. The 1000 steps is pretty challenging for beginners but definitely worth the visit. It is educational and has plaques with information on the way up the stairs. In winter it can be a bit slippery. The beautiful sounds of the water running and the fresh air is just remarkable. It took less than half an hour to go up the stairs and about 10 minutes to go down. There is a playground at the bottom of the steps and also toilets and a café nearby.‬
