What a wonderfil way to spend a Saturday morning. The hustle and bustle of the market was the perfect backdrop to learning about the history while the tastings gave context to the traders at the market. It was a dream foodie tour!

The history of the market was very interesting but the food tastings were exceptional. It is highly recommended that you don't have breakfast, because you are going to be very well fed. Seafood, kangaroo, bread, cheese, dips, chocolate, wine, fruit and finish with a sorbet. 2 hours of pure joy.

Our tour of Queen Victoria Market was certainly an ultimate foodie tour, thanks in large part to our excellent tour guide Virginia. Because she has been a customer of the market for years and cooks with what she buys there, she brought a high level of authenticity to the experience. The tour was extremely well organized. Every stall we stopped at was expecting us; the vendors were charming and had interesting stories to tell, encouraged by Virgina, who seemed to know each family's history; the tastes were beautifully set out and we were able to cover a great deal of the market during our allotted time. The tastes were very generous and explained well by each vendor. The tour even ended at a wine bar.

Virginia was an excellent guide with a lot of knowledge about the food, Melbourne and the market. We tasted way more food than I expected. Very enjoyable to meet the vendors and learn about their food from them.

We did the foodie tour and our guide was Irene who was great and very knowledgeable and we tried many delicious goods and learnt so much about the market. The traders were wonderful and so passionate. A great way to spend a day.

We had a lovely time on our Queen Victoria Market Foodie Tour. Our tour guide, Irene was amazing. She background and history of the market was informative and her style so refreshing. You can tell she really loves the market. Her rapport with the vendors was genuine. We got so much out of the tour and went back and purchased several items as a result of the tour. Would highly recommend it. We’re from the United States.

The tour guide knew her facts very well - Got to try a whole range of food sincluding chocolate, beer, kangaroo meat, salami, cheese, dips, fruits.

Markets in most big cities are always worth a visit we find. London has some of the best on the planet and we adore wandering around, checking out the produce and the eclectic mix of eateries that always attach themselves to these places. It's the same for The Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne.
We hopped on the free tram which was just along from our hotel, running straight across the free travel zone and ending right infront of the market.
It was a Sunday morning and already quite busy with a row of lovely looking coffee shops and restaurants serving breakfast. Through an alleyway we walked into the old market hall which immediately hits you with its smell of all things meat and fish.
It's a wonderful place to wander through and enjoy the spectacle; plenty of Crocodile, Emu and Kangaroo for sale!
The place is huge and there's more modern extensions beyond that can easily fill a few hours walking round. Definitely worth a visit.

Was excellent, lots to see. Fabulous stalls. Easy ride to get there by tram. If staying in Melbourne for a few days, and need to get some fresh meat, deli, and veggies, get them here. You may pay a little extra, but quality excellent.

Very large under cover markets. About 50% fresh food and 40% clothes and 10%souviners. All the merchandised seemed over priced. Definitely not the place to find a bargain. I did buy some mangoes that seemed a good price compared to store prices but despite looking ok they tasted over ripe and we had to throw them out. The plan was to have brunch there but there were very few food options. When we arrived at 9am there was already a queue for the jam donuts at the American Donut van so we jumped in line and prurchase the ongoing deal of 5 for $7.50. They were slightly heavier than most dounuts with the dough a little under cooked. While they were still yummy I wouldn't rush back for more. The only place we found to get breakfast food like egg and bacon roll was Daves diner (also in a van) they didn't look great for $9 so we gave them a miss. There was a wonderful pop up card shop with good priced cards and there was a large variety of very good souviners. Unless I was visiting with someone from overseas i would not go back.

Hello, does it make sense to go to the market later in the afternoon, say after 2pm, until close (4pm)? We will be there in March (Australia's fall) and can only go then. Wondering if the stalls start closing up and nothing left then.

After 2pm they have meat, seafood and fresh produce being sold cheaper.
We always go around 11am as this market is big and takes a while to walk around it.
Food and coffee etc is available.
At 2pm you will be getting close to the stalls winding up.

Hi, it says Queen Victoria Market is closed on Wednesdays on Google. However it says open on Wednesdays for night Market from 5pm to 10pm here. Anyone can confirm which is right? I’m touching down at Melbourne on 30th Oct which is a Wednesday.

I visited the market in September of this year and tried the BEST mulled wine ever!!!!!!!!! Don't remember name of winery but they were in the center of the market and had 2 kettles of mulled wine ready to serve. I should have gotten the list of ingredients then, but thought I would find something equally good here in the states. NO CAN DO.....so trying to get 8 ingredients that they put in their wine........to make it taste so amazing :)

Hi LynnP1702, we're glad you loved the mulled wine - it's a favourite of ours too! From your description, it sounds like it was from ReWine. As described by MelR237, you can purchase their mulled wine syrup at the Market, but if you're purchasing internationally we would recommend the mulled wine spice mix from Gewürzhaus Herb and Spice Merchants - plus they have a recipe on their website.
