‪Majestic albatross‬
نوفمبر 2021
‪Jordan was very knowledable, and went out of his way to make this tour enjoyable and interesting for our small family. We saw lots of albatross nesting, and one making circles. As a bonus we saw the disappearing gun. Tip- from there you get much closer to the albatross, so it's worth the extra 10 in more than one way.‬

‪One of the highlights of our South Island visit. Seeing the red billed gulls with their chicks up very close was such a bonus. Our classic tour of just four people with Dominic was really interesting and informative. Fantastic seeing the albatross relatively close and learning more about them. Also saw seals and shags.
Great gift shop with quality interesting products. Excellent place to visit and the drive out to the peninsula is very pretty too.‬

Thank you for taking the time to write a review! It is indeed a special and unique experience to be able to view such magnificent wild birds in their natural habitat! The red-billed gulls are nationally vulnerable, so it is wonderful to see them prospering at Taiaroa Head - and my, aren't those chicks cute!? It's also such a pleasure to see the world’s only mainland breeding colony of Royal Albatross close up. Our guides, including Dominic, love sharing their knowledge and stories of the albatross and introducing visitors to the 'Royals of Taiaroa'. As you mention there are so many things to see here, making it a definite ‘must do’ for any visitor to Dunedin - The Royal Albatross Centre – the Seabird Centre of the Wildlife Capital of New Zealand. Your tour fees go to a good cause - for conservation and education programmes to help look after this amazing wildlife sanctuary. A portion of the tour fees also goes to Te Poāri a Pukekura co management group and supports the group's role as guardians of the headland. Thank you so much for your support of our Trust. Thanks again for your visit and we hope you enjoyed the rest of your holiday! ‪Albatross bucket list‬
بمفردك • نوفمبر 2021
‪I had a wonderful visit, seeing these birds soaring and some nesting was amazing. Thanks to Jordan for his knowledge and his awareness of the local area. The albatross are truely amazing and how privileged I feel to get up close. Would highly recommend this, especially if you follow their journeys in our world. Please stop using and leaving plastic anywhere.‬

‪Magic Visit.‬
زوجان • نوفمبر 2021
‪We had a magic time. Jordyn Winiata was our guide, personable and well informed. It was a little like being shown around by your favourite nephew. There were startlingly close up views and we were lucky enough to see three of these magnificent birds in flight. An experience that should be a must see for everyone who loves the world of nature.‬

Our Otago Peninsula Trust, which owns the Royal Albatross Centre is NZ's first charitable conservation trust, set up in 1967 to 'preserve and enhance Otago Peninsula'. As well as supporting conservation, pest control, habitat restoration and visitor facilities we also offer special prices and days for families and locals to enable greater access and appreciation to the colony. We also run education programmes for school children at a minimal cost for the pupils; in 2019 we hosted over 1000 students. The Trust also donates over $11,000 of free tickets annually to help schools, charities and other good causes. The Royal Albatross Centre itself, with its comprehensive historical and educational displays, videos, toilets, cafe, and gift shop is free to access for everyone. This is only made possible by the Trust's activities. As you will appreciate, it costs a significant amount to run a centre like this 364 days a year. We very much value all the contributions people make so that the Trust is able to offer this access and facilities to everyone year round. The cost of providing water and toilets to guests is about $100,000 per annum as water and sewage have to be trucked in and out of the headland. Thank you so much for your support of our Trust. ‪Great Experience‬
أكتوبر 2021
‪October is not the best time of year to go to view the Albatross but a very interesting & informative tour. Our Monarch Wildlife Combo Tour was cancelled due to bad weather but with a team effort from Trudy at Monarch & staff at the Albatross Centre we were able to add on the Taiaroa Fort Tour & the disappearing gun, Thanks to you all for arranging this. Tip: Take some extra money for the gift shop on site, it has some lovely quality gifts for purchase!‬

‪Wonderful, but pick your time of year‬
أكتوبر 2021
‪Just a really quick note - everyone knows what an amazing place this is, but also be aware of what time of the year you are visiting. We went in early October and there are no nesting birds here then (well, no albatross at least, lots of other birds.) The view is stunning, and our guide was excellent, and even though there were no birds soaring around (it was too still for any of them to do their gliding thing) we also got taken to the disappearing gun - not part of what we payed for, but as compensation for not seeing an albatross. Still totally worth the visit, it was the first time (out of three visits) we haven't been there during nesting time, but we weren't disappointed.‬

Kia ora spidernz and thank you for taking the time to write a review. Thanks for supporting us by taking a tour. Our team love sharing their knowledge and stories of the albatross and introducing visitors to the 'Royals of Taiaroa'. Early October marks the very start of the next breeding season. Around this time the first breeding adults will return to the headland, but they will not start building nests until the end of October. We are very happy to have already welcomed 44 breeding birds ! These birds are coming and going, hoping to reunited with their partner, who they meet here on land after flying solo out at sea for a whole year. What an exciting time ! On a tour to Fort Taiaroa you'll be able to see a fully restored, award winning 6 inch disappearing gun from 1886. Also a great experience ! The Royal Albatross Centre – the Seabird Centre of the Wildlife Capital of New Zealand is a definite ‘must do’ of any visit to NZ - Thanks again for your visit and we hope you enjoyed the rest of your holiday! ‪Beautiful Birds and history‬
أكتوبر 2021
‪Our family loved the experience on a very windy Dunedin day. Our guide was very knowledgeable and chatted away sharing interesting information and answered all of our questions. We loved the close up fly by's from the albatross, a very special experience. We also toured the gun placement and spotted a few more birds waiting for their mates to arrive. We would highly recommend the centre and the experience.‬
