The only people staying in the camping area.Friendly chickens arrived not long after us. I had wanted to stay her since seeing it a couple of years ago. But the place was not as I remembered it. I went to look at the parrots in the aviary but 2 dead rats in the driveway in from of the birds put me off.
Went for a walk which is included in the price but the track requires trimming and some maintenance.
Camping area kitchen facilities pretty grim, but we had our own so didn't require the use of it.

We stayed for one night and it was really pleasant. Really friendly owner welcomed us and showed us where everything is. There’s even a coin operated washing machine which was very handy. The gardens are beautiful and the ducks/geese are very curious - maybe they were expecting some food?

Whole area would benefit from some maintenance both in the gardens and the cafe. However it is still a beautiful spot and the hosts are very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a non-powered site as the powered sites were too small to fit our caravan in. Food at cafe was basic but good quality and pleasantly surprised to find gluten free options.

Something of a local gem. Good honest food options in unique environment. Friendly hosts. Don’t go if you are in a rush or expect trendy Jaffa cuisine. Great for a relaxed chat and food.

Was taken here for lunch by a friend on a gorgeous summer’s day. Only about 20 mins drive from Invercargill, stunning views, beautiful track around the lake, multiple aviaries and kid’s playground. Delicious lunch which was very reasonably priced.
I can’t believe I didn’t know this place existed! Highly recommend for locals and tourists alike.

We stayed at this place in our Motorhome they have powered sites just down from the cafe...the owners were amazing even after us not arriving till 6.30pm.. The gardens are just amazing...

This is a great place to go to with primary age children who can explore ahead of the adults. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. They have a great variety of food, excellent coffee and a scrumptious pumpkin soup. Plenty of avian life to look at, runni g loose and in avaries. The shop has an interesting selection of goodies and there are games for children to play with while they wait for a meal. Totally recommend this place and camping is available for vans.

Such good value for 5$ a person for a site bonus having a place where our doggies can stay too (on a lead) lots of ducks and chickens wandering around. Instersting info about the old mine site.

We stopped here for lunch, and I had read on the internet about the secret garden. The food was cooked fresh for us, was delicious and prices were reasonable. Didn't realise the extent of the secret garden, which was a 2 dollar entry and we were given tubs of food for the ducks that kept following us! Is set around a large pond that used to be a pit and is absolutely delightful, a couple of bridges, seats on the way and rotundas complete this gorgeous setting. Highly recommend

We were road tripping and found this place online - rang them up as the website said they would be closed after 5 and we weren't going to get there til around 6. This wasn't a problem for them so off we went. Rocked up and were shown where to park the camper up. Paid our fee (all of 5$ each!) and were given the free wifi code and a quick idea of the paths round the garden. The garden is absolutely stunning clearly a lot of time and effort has gone into it! Has toilets and hot and cold running water and I think they are planning on putting a shower in(?) owners were absolutely lovely and all in all this is the best campsite I have stayed in in NZ.

where is this cafe? map shows ackers road otatara and address says ashers gorge road.
