The colony of Japanese monkeys, the feature of the City Park were a gift from Launceston's sister city, Ikeda in Japan in exchange for 10 wallabies back in 1980 and you might wonder who got the better deal. The park is typical and pleasant and the monkeys an interesting attraction and a reminder of what we may have once been.

Great park to sit in the sun or stroll around. Monkeys are there, big open spaces for the kids to play, lots of gardens and trees.
Downside is a lack of picnic tablets and the duck pond water looks horribly dirty.

Such a spacious beautiful park in the middle of the city. Lots of huge trees. Lots of seats, lots of lawn for kids to run around and ride bikes, really good paths, lots of space which was well-utilised by different groups and families. Monkey enclosure in the corner which was spacious and clean with mischievous monkeys playing chasies. Next door is the Design Centre which is worth a look too.

Had a lovely afternoon in this park in the centre of Launceston - a group of monkeys live in a lovely display - was a pleasure watching them play and interact with each other.

Well maintained like a mini Botanical Garden. A very interesting place for the children- play are, tiny train ride and SNOW MONKEYS! Adults too will like to visit this place.
We searched for drinking water refill and seems many are not aware of that there is drinking water facility near the children play area.

This park was established in the 1820s by the Launceston Horticultural Society and handed over to the City Council in 1863.
Apart from the fabulous number of different trees, plants, flowers, shrubs, open grass areas and gardens the park boasts a conservatory (unfortunately closed when we visited), a band stand, a children's playground, a pond with ducks, statues, memorials and MONKEYS.
Apparently the sister city to Launceston is Ikeda City in Japan and it was the Japanese city that gifted the monkeys to the people of Launceston. The monkey's area is built at the Cameron Street entrance to the park and the inhabitants provided us with quite a bit of free entertainment.
Beautiful park well worth a visit and not just for the monkeys.

Walking through the gardens was amazing and then seeing the Macaque Monkeys was a great experience. Then the surprise was seeing the City Park Radio Museum which was so interesting. A hidden little gem

A great little park in the middle of Launceston which has a monkey exhibit. Definitely worth a walk through if you have the time whilst in Launceston. The monkey exhibit is free and the gardens are beautifully maintained.

We discovered this park by chance. It is like a mini botanical garden with a variety of old trees and green lawns. A relaxing place.

Nice green space in the centre of town, with outdoor chess. Lovely big trees. Monkeys are an interesting addition. We managed to spend a bit of time enjoying being outdoors.
