I have only been here by day, so I cannot answer for the bar scene by night. I have visited each of the four European cake shops, plus a number of the cafes and snack shops. They are all worth a visit. The #96 tram terminus is right in there, plus the #3, 3a, and 16 trams pass nearby. Luna Park and the beaches are just a short walk and there is even a bus service along Barkly Street. There is also a supermarket / shopping arcade here to collect supplies for your picnic. It is all here, so what is holding you back ?

Went on a busy warm day with friends from overseas. Visited Luna Park which was ok. Then went to go out for dinner. How can a busy night in the lead up to Christmas 2 weeks away on a 28 degree day be dead? Street was dirty, half the shops closed and couldn't get a park and had to walk 25 mins each way with tired and hungry kids.
Well done to the council for killing off Acland street. Why would you bother visiting when it is so hard to get to? Gone are all the boutique shops and only the major store brands that can afford to stay there.
Apart from cafes/restaurants, not a variety of shops like there used to be. Why would you shop there when you can go down the road to where the road is not closed to cars and it is vibrant.
To be honest I was embarrassed to take our friends there and they even said it looks run down and prefer to go elsewhere.

Acland St has changed and not for the better, the unique shops are all gone, bog standard shopping. Still a nice place to have a stroll, no idea where to park we used the Woollies parking.

This area is a bit nicer than when we came in January of this year. Some new shops here. The cakes are overpriced and don’t look the freshest. But a pleasant place to walk. We got some Israeli items from Coles but Woolworths seem to have dropped their kosher section. You can take tram 96 back into town for a fun ride along the faster tracks.

I come from interstate. I was last here 5 years ago when it was crowded and dynamic. Today was a miserable experience. 80% of cafes were closed or abandoned. We found one open and we were the sole customers for brunch. On the tram home I could see the Fitzroy street precinct was the same.
I guess this is all the fault of the insane Covid lockdown. I can't see a way back.

We had visited St Kilda previously, some years ago. On our return it was a different experience. Some of the old and wonderful Cake shops were still there, however generally it was very rundown.

Walking the street is a pleasure. So many little cake shop/bakeries with the best selection and quality of cakes, tarts and rolls. Plus a wide range of indoor/ outdoor eatieries. Great place to start your day

The three European cake shops here are pleasant to gaze at, but invariably the cakes can sit in windows for days and are hugely overpriced, as are coffees and hot chocolates.
However there are a number of other popular cafes that are better value and don't just concentrate on dessert items.
The newly renovated Woolworths supermarket (down an arcade, in the middle of the shopping strip) is the best place to obtain a picnic hamper for the beach. Alcohol consumption is prohibited in public by leftie Councillors from the City of Port Phillip but buy some to take to your hotel or home, as the attached BWS outlet is keenly priced.
ATMs are available as some businesses may only take (or prefer) cash while rather grotty public toilets are opposite the St Kilda Post Office, around the corner closer to famous Luna Park.
The route 96 light rail/tram departs from the Acland St terminus as frequently as every eight to 10 minutes while in Barkly St, bus routes 246 up to Punt Rd, 606 to Port Melbourne/Elsternwick and 600/922/923 to Elsternwick and Sandringham station/ Southland Shopping Centre provide other options to leave the costly car garaged.

Acland street must be food lovers heaven. Just try walking from one end to the other with trying and buying.

Es la típica calle céntrica de un lugar turístico. Nosotros fuimos en temporada baja, por lo cual encontramos muchas cosas cerradas. Supongo que en pleno verano debe tener mas vida, porque si pudimos ver que es una linda calle y tiene muchos negocios.
