Really just a rather fancy allotment but it was run with more than a dash of fun, expertise and just unexpected surprises. Thirty minutes of smiles!

We happened to visit St Kilda on a quiet Sunday afternoon and strolled into this beautiful community garden when families were gathering on the lawn and picnicking. Soon we realized they were preparing for a concert. We bought a glass of wine from the organizers and nestled into a delightful few hours of people-watching and entertainment that felt like a very authentic way to experience an evening with locals.

These gardens are fascinating and mostly well cared for. They are rented allotments for people to grow their own Vegetables. The grounds are tidy and their is sometimes refreshments available at a counter in the grounds as well as alcohol. Good for a casual stroll through to fill in a half hour.

Everybody should have a plot at these Community Gardens, what an awesome place, we loved it and wish we could have had a tasting.

Interesting little gardens which resembled old allotments, complete with iron gates, fences and mailboxes. Interesting sculptures throughout, but very much a mish-mash of different approaches. I probably wasn't as impressed as some reviewers, perhaps biased by the fact we have a stunning community garden in my own suburb, but I still love the fact that this is a unique set up and a lovely way to bring a bit of the natural environment into the city.

After a few hectic days of dashing around Melbourne came across this place whilst checking out St Kilda. Next time I visit I will be bringing a book and a hat and shall plop down in a deck chair and relax for a few hours. Great escape from the city and a credit to whomever dreamt up this concept.

The Veg Out community gardens was designed for some of the local residents who didn't have gardens of their own. There are a finite number of plots where people can plant little gardens - many are food and herbs. There is also a chicken coup with chickens.

I was "Wowed " by this. The community had some great green thumbs as well as awsome artist. I Loved the fact that there were Veggies growing everywhere being planted and also being enviromentally friendly. If you want to take a rest there a lovely seats to sit with birds and it gives you that tropical enviroment. Any tourist Must see this.
