Took a short week break in Kalgoorlie and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Booked again through the KBVC and cannot speak highly enough of them. Every aspect of our holiday was a great experience and we sincerely Thank Larissa and the team at KBVC for the arrangements they made for us.

Great helpful staff.
Had a bit of fun as there is a safe and in our younger days working at the Post Office we used to lock new employees in the safe. Tried that here just for old times sake.
Lots of information.

Fantastic advice with friendly service and great shopping experience. The gold mine tour as recommended was great and we learnt a lot.

I dropped into the visitor's centre to obtain maps of walk trails in Kalgoorlie and maps of things to see in the surrounding countryside. In particular I wanted more information about Goongarie Homestead.
They had a map of Kalgoorlie that marked paths but they were not labled and there was no indication where the walk trails were. I asked an assistant about walk trails and they could only recall the Karlkurla track for which they had no map. I asked specifically about the Kokoda walk trail and they called over another staff member who knew of it but said that it has not been maintained and was not worth visiting. Again they had no map. From their low level of knowledge I suspect that there are other walk trails of which they know nothing.
Regarding maps of the surrounding countryside they found one very basic, stylised map which did show Goongarie but was totally inadequate for navigation. I am sure that there are many historic cemetaries and lovely picnic spots around Kalgoorlie but the Kalgoorlie Visitor Centre was no help in locating them.

Staff here were superb in not only their knowledge but their kindness towards an interstate visitor. Appreciated.
Kalgoorlie starts right here at the info centre, the place where one can find out about the many places you can visit in the area.

We really enjoyed our stay in Kalgoorlie/Boulder but we should have had at least 2 whole days to discover everything. We had 2 nights and 1 day and that only skimmed the surface. We also didn't book ahead for Australia's oldest brothel and didn't get to do the tour.
The staff at the Visitor centre were great and we very much enjoyed Tim's tour of the building. We also loved our visit to Boulder, especially the town hall. Lots to do, see and learn K/B

The Centre is located in a lovely building and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Lots of useful information. We also did the tour of the Town Hall adjacent and it was wonderful. Great tour guide and a wonderful story. Well worth the visit.

My wife and I visited Perth, Western Australia, in May 2024. for an annual National Conference of one of my organisations, where we enjoyed many activities organised for our benefit.
As is customary for us after each Conference we attend, we always try to get away for a few days to relax, doing our own thing, in a unique part of the State where the Conference is being held, to maximise the cost of the airfare from hometown Brisbane. We asked ourselves “Where should we go this time? “ The last time the Conference was held in Perth in 2015 we had pre and post Conference tours to Albany, Margaret River, Busselton, New Norcia and the Pinnacles. However we wanted to go somewhere different this time. A search of the Internet revealed that we could get to Kalgoorlie - Boulder, 600 kilometres east of Perth by undertaking the 7 hour trip on the Prospector Train. And so the ‘die was cast” and three nights in this interesting place in the heart of the goldfields, getting there by train - here we come.
We enjoyed the train rides there and back and saw interesting scenery along the way. Our choice of accommodation was the Quality Inn Railway directly opposite the Kalgoorlie Railway Station and a perfect base for our Kalgoorlie adventure. Our first port of call was to get to the Town Hall in Hannon Street, just a short walk away, and visit the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Visitors’ Centre housed on the ground floor in the magnificent looking Town Hall building, dating back to 1908. Here we gathered tourist brochures and maps, booked up the tour of the Town Hall and found out where the City Tram Taster Tour leaves (which we had booked up earlier online with the Visitors’ Centre before leaving Queensland).
Outside the Visitors’ Centre’s entrance on the footpath is a replica of the Paddy Hannan Statue which doubles up as a novel public water drinking fountain with the tap neatly attached to Paddy’s waterbag. The original statue is housed inside the Kalgoorlie Town Hall to keep it vandal proof. Paddy Hannan was a gold prospector whose lucrative discovery on 14 June 1893 set off a major gold rush in the area- as such he is revered as the town’s No. 1 local “hero”.
The Kalgoorlie-Boulder Visitors’ Centre is a great starting point for any visitor calling into Kalgoorlie. The staff members go out of their way to make sure a visitor is not going to miss any opportunity to see the best of the town first hand. The staff members are very friendly and helpful and eager to share their local knowledge to make sure a visitor’s experience will be memorable. The main room has an impressive array of souvenirs and local products for sale at very reasonable prices. It has a wide range of interesting books for sale also. We purchased some lovely gifts for my three sisters’ birthdays and I have since enjoyed reading the small booklet I purchased depicting the amazing, yet tragic life and achievements of local hero Charles Yelverton O'Connor, CMG – wow, what a story and what a man!!! My wife did not miss out as we were able to purchase a nice Australian Gold pendant for her and on her actual birthday.
A real highlight of the Visitors’ Centre is their dedicated Brochure Room, a former manager’s office converted for its current purpose. The array of brochures is quite astounding covering lots about Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s attractions and all areas of Western Australia. Visitors are sure to find what they are looking for here- if not, then the staff next door will be eager to help. The nice aspect of all the brochures being in a separate room is that you can spend all the time in the world looking for what you require without being interrupted. This separate Brochure room is a masterstroke.
Another great innovation of the Visitors’ Centre is their “after hours” Visitors’ information stand with maps and information placed in a 24 hour illuminated display case on the footpath outside the entrance to the Centre, and “guarded” of course by the Paddy Hannan Statue nearby. Here visitors who arrive when the Centre is closed can sill be informed of “what’s on” and “what to do” and “where to go”.
Any visitor to Kalgoorlie must aim to take in a two and a half hour City Tram Taster tour, which can be booked with the Visitors’ Centre for a reasonable cost and leaves from the Town Hall at 9:30am each morning, except Sundays. We travelled in a heritage style tram car on wheels and visits were made firstly to the Mount Charlotte Lookout to find out all about the great vision of C Y O’Connor in persevering with his controversial but successful pipeline to the Goldfields. This was followed by a visit to the Super Pit lookout to witness the open cut Gold mine. Next port of call was an interesting look at the marvels of timber art at Chunky Timbers, then the now redundant but ornate Boulder Town Hall, the wonderfully created Kalgoorlie Racing Club Museum and finally the informative Goldfields Museum. This was a great way to see a bit of Kalgoorlie and Boulder, its twin town, and it is thoroughly recommended for those who only have a few hours to spare. Out of interest Boulder and Kalgoorlie were once separate twin towns with separate Town Halls but amalgamation took place on 27 January 1989 to form one municipality known as Kalgoorlie-Boulder with the sole ‘seat of power’ now being the Kalgoorlie Town Hall, where the Visitors’ Centre is located.
Our itinerary also took in a tour of the magnificent Kalgoorlie Town Hall where the Visitor Centre is located. It’s a brilliant tour for just $10 per person or $8 concessional and a “must do”. It included the former magnificent concert hall, the original Paddy Hannon statue, a pleasing white bust of C Y O'Connor and a rare look at the impressive still used Council Chambers.
When you add memorable visits during our short stay to two iconic, historic hotels (the Palace and the York) for our lunches; a stroll through history along Hannan Street and even a novel visit to the oldest brothel in Australia – the Questa Casa, it is obvious that we had a most memorable visit to Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
Our visit turned out to be a real surprise packet for us and thanks go to the innovative and enterprising Kalgoorlie –Boulder Visitors’ Centre whose dedicated staff played an integral part in helping to make it all happen.

The staff were friendly and very helpful when we visited. They were great at assisting us with our many enquires abouts tours and things to do in the area. Once they heard we were driving across the Nullabor they advised us that the highway was closed due to flooding. This advice saved us at least 4 hours of driving (2hr to the closure and 2hr back) as we were oblivious to the closure. I would recommend hiring the golf clubs from here and doing the longest golf course in the world.
