Great interesting*museum with quirky and hands on exhibits. Helpful and friendly staff. Good short movie about the history of the region. Nice location. Pay by donation.

Great wee museum. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Informative video about the history of Oamaru and interactive displays, great for young and old. Have a go on a penny farthing! You choose what to pay at the end of the visit. Worth a visit!

Loved our recent visit to this very interesting museum. Nice to learn about how the town developed in the mid to late 1800’s. The staff ere very knowledgable and informative. Totally enjoyed my ride on the penny farthing merry-go-round. Liked the idea of donations at the exit we gave $10 each. Would highly recommend a visit.

An interesting place to visit to go back in time to when area first settled. Displays very good and appear to be relevant to the area and depict how the town was established and the history of the area. Good for children.

this was a great place to while away an hour , with so much interesting content... the movie of the story of Oamaru was just the right length (about 8 minutes I think?) we enjoyed the last section , watching an amusing video of a modern woman dressing herself in the attire that females of Victorian times had to endure... without anyone to help her... she also took 8 minutes!!
the idea of koha (donation) on exiting was appreciated - we happily gave $10 each but may have hesitated to pay upfront not knowing just what was behind the entry point... it was easy for my friend to get around on her walking frame

Stepping back in time and far more interactive and interesting than the steam punk museum. Great for kids of all ages. Have a go on the stilts.

It is good for tourists! although the place isn't that big, there is plenty things to see and try. We can tell the owner try very hard to decorate the place with lot of information and activities. you can see old things and old costume , played old games and had a ride on carousel!
The staffs are very friendly and explain everything they know.
Donation was welcomed at the end of the visit.

A very strange place. We visited early in the evening, there was no one on the front counter and something was happening with a reasonable size group in another room. We had a quick look around and could see that it could be a fun visit at a different time going by other reviews.

I had so much fun today and Whitestone city. It was a good mix of fun and educational. I loved riding on the carousel!

Such an educational and enjoyable experience.
