Do not use the words "PEKAPEKA WETLANDS" on Google Maps. It will bring you to the WRONG Place. It will bring you to SH 52 to Villa Maria Winery, some 20-25 km faraway from the right place. Instead use the words "PEKAPEKA REGIONAL PARK" to give you the RIGHT place, on SH2, some 12KM from Hasting. It is good place, beautiful wetland scenery and board walks over the water. Nice place to have relax time and walk with family, however no big mature trees and no shades. Many birds to see as well as eels.

A lovely short walk, worth the drive. Some great spots to watch the birds and enjoy the scenery. Not much in the way of facilities or shade.

Nice place to wander on a sunny day. The boardwalks are amazing and grounds well maintained. A little bit of bird life to see but was quite a distance away.
Hard place to find if you use Google maps.....but we got there in the end thanks to ISite Napier.

A wonderful outing for the 8-10 year old grandchildren as they spotted birds and watched the eels. Next time I will make a scavenger hunt game or an exercise for the children to identify different flora and fauna. Taking a snack to have half way round gave a sense of adventure. I wish I had taken a book of birds with me so we could identify the birds we saw. A display board with the birds and plants would have been helpful.

Pekapeka Wetlands locates in SH2 so you would surely pass it if you drive between Wellington and Napier. It is a great point to stop in the way. Comparing to some other spots, it has a big sign and easy to find.
It is not too big but nice enough for a walk. you can see quite a lot of birds other than the plants and wetlands. I must say it is more beautiful than I expected. If we had more time, I would explore more inside.
Worth to stop there for a lovely walk if the weather is good!

Some very nice boardwalks wander over a small section of the wetland. There's a lookout and a few picnic tables, some signs and car parking.

I have visited this with my grandchildren and on my own. I have to say my grandchildren didn’t find it very enthralling but on my own as a photographer there are endless opportunities anytime of the day.

Nice walk around the wetlands, it’s not a very long walk and won’t take very long. Quite windy the day we went and quite noisy near the road.

Fica pertinho da cidade de Hastings. Uma reserva de pantanal do lago Poukawa. É possível andar pelo pantanal através de decks. Um lugar extraordinario

We went not knowing what to expect but the whole route was interesting. There is a bridge across the estuary for pedestrians, signboards all round and the boardwalks mean you are kept involved with bay and it’s life. In particular we saw pied stilt, spoonbills feeding, black oystercatchers and bar tailed godwit. Great.
