‪Our 2nd time, we had Shemaya and Dot as our guides, they were amazing! Professional but so friendly. We have a lot of respect for any horse guides as not an easy responsibility. Thankyou Snowy Wilderness for such a wonderful time again….we will keep coming back.‬

‪Disappointed is the first word which comes to mind. On arrival at the meeting place for our all day horse ride, we were not greeted by staff. No welcome or hello, no introductions. After signing our waivers and paying an additional $10 to hire dirty old boots, we were given a run down on the safety of the horses by the very grumpy owner, who’s name I found out later was Justin. Justin made it quite clear that his only concern was his horses and not his paying customers well-being.
Our lunch bags were plonked on a nearby table for us to assume they were ours. After seeing the small lunch provided we went back to our rooms for more snacks for a full day of riding. Once out on our ride, we spent the first half an hour sitting on our horses listening to the history of the property. This could’ve been included in our non existent welcome! The ride was slow, boring, with only two small opportunities for a trot or canter, definitely not the type of ride an experienced rider would enjoy. Some of the terrain was very challenging for the horses including a long stretch of hill climbing. As I had travelled almost a full day to get to this ride, I was very disappointed.
Unfortunately, one of my friends fell off during this ride and Justin looked annoyed rather than concerned and did not get off his horse to assist. His only other staff member on the ride assisted.
The one positive during this experience was the young girl, Chantelle who assisted us mounting the horses, she was lovely and very helpful. I will not be returning.‬

‪This is our second stay at this incredible property and it certainly won’t be our last.
The location features the very best of the high country, with views and terrain that could easily be the from the set of that Ozzie classic, ‘The Man from Snowy River’.
We stayed in the Koziosco ( 2 bedroom) Lodge, which was spacious & comfortable, featuring a well equipped kitchen, and a fabulous fireplace that kept us snug & warm, even when the night temperatures dropped to zero.
We loved that the double glazed windows let the outside- in, and we even saw horses from the bedroom: truly the stuff of dreams!
But the highlight has to be the horse riding! I enjoyed 4 fabulous day rides with the professional guides at the property. Phoebe was the BEST! She made even the novice riders feel comfortable and at ease, while making sure that the experienced riders got the challenges that they were hoping for. I can not recommend her enough. I also enjoyed 1 day ride with our host Justin, and learned so much about the great work they are doing to save our brumbies from the callous culling being carried out. I wish there were more people like him and Delia in the world! A special mention to the abundance of wildlife we saw on our rides: kangaroos, wallabies, wombat, deer and of course , the brumbies!‬

‪I went with three friends and stayed 3 nights in the Homestead. Fabulous location and accomodation. 3 night Facebook deal was amazing value for money.
The full day horse ride on Saturday was fantastic. The young women who were running the rides and our guides were very competent and patient young women. They were very helpful and gave good instructions. The ride we did was about 3 hours then we had lunch and then another hour / hour and a half after lunch. The horses are beautiful and the scenery is amazing. The guides even let those who wanted to trot, trot! Those that didn’t want to trot kept walking.
This was a childhood dream of mine to do a ride like this. It exceeded my expectations.
The accomodation at The Homestead was fabulous. So big and comfortable. It had everything you needed. The fire was well stocked with plenty of wood for our three night stay. Beds were comfy, good linen and nice showers. I’d go back in a heartbeat. We even had 2 mares with their foals visit us on two mornings. Glad we had some carrots for them.
The sunrises were spectacular. I didn’t want to leave.‬

‪Everything was amazing, from the hosts to the horses. I did a three day ride with a wonderful group of people. Had great food cooked over the fire and amazing scenery to go with it. I would highly recommend!

Thank you so much to Justin, Delia and the guides.‬

‪What a beautiful place to stay! The lodge had everything you need for a wonderful, peaceful break. It was generally a slow ride but I loved my ride on Henry and enjoyed a couple of nice canters up some hills. Safety is at the fore and the ride caters for differing abilities. My highlight of the trip was seeing a beautiful black brumby stallion and his mares, but there were also kangaroos, wallabies, koalas and loads of deer. Highly recommend‬

‪The accommodation was great and we loved it so much, that decided we would definitely come there again. Until we had a horse riding.
The man who led out group acted as we were annoying visitors who invited ourselves to the ride without paying for it. He ignored our enquiries and did what he aimed to do.
Our ride had to be 5-6 hrs in total, but it was 4 hrs, which probably was good because it was monotonous and tiring. We did only two short trotting and no galloping at all. Almost whole trip we were walking. We had one 30 min break after about 1.5 hr since we started and when we asked for another short break closer to the end, the leader of the group just ignored. We still had plenty time left and I don't see what would happen if he allowed us to get off the horses for a 5-10 min break.
The saddle of my 10-yrs old daughter was sliding to the side and I asked to stop and fix it. The man said it is ok and she can finish the ride as is because we are pretty close to the end, so the last 15min of the ride she had to struggle with her balance.
The length of my horse's reins was too short and I had to lean forward and lay on the horse back/neck when it leaned to graze grass. It was very tiring and annoying after awhile. I am not sure why the horse owners allow such things, they must be aware of the resulting inconvenience.
The fact of forcing all horse riders to rent shoes, mentioned by many other visitors, added it up too. They could easily include the cost in the total and not irritate customers with extra costs. Besides, I still don't understand the necessity of these shoes. We had the horse riding at other places and they didn't require us to wear their "special boots".
Finally, my daughter noticed a horse (among the ones that freely walk on the state) with a pretty deep wound and lots of flies around. The horse didn't receive any treatment within the couple days we stayed there.
The whole attitude of the property owners seems like "take it or leave it" and that they don't try hard to improve the service and satisfy their customers.‬

‪I booked a 3 hour ride to see what this place was like, I did ask if there would be trotting and cantering before booking and was told yes but I was very disappointed, we did maybe 3 trots and 1 tiny canter, I have almost 20 years experience so I can actually ride but I was bored out of my mind. If you want a "man from snowy river" experience then by all means but if not, your money will be better off spent elsewhere‬

‪I am a convert. Thank you Justin, Delia, (Charlie and Doug), and team.

I rode a little as a kid and teen, and had really good memories of that. My partner arranged for us to do a 4 day ride with Snowy Wilderness, and I will admit that I was a feeling a little unsure about the whole thing. Regardless, I went out and got some appropriate clothes (eg, pack for all conditions, as you never know what will happen in the Snowies), and then bought some boots (wrong ones) with the idea that I would wear them instead of my very nice Ariats I already have. Well, lets just say that was an error, but some footbeds from Jindabyne solved the issue, and the rented boots from Snowy Wilderness were fine. We brought our own Oilskins, but also found that Snowy Wilderness rent them to you as well. We didn’t actually need them, but took them just in case.

Day 1: Weather: surprisingly mild for the middle of Summer, but hey, it’s the Snowies (see my prior note about bringing the right clothes AKA ‘there’s no such thing as bad weather, there’s one the wrong clothes (Billy Connolly)).My partner was riding like a champ, as was our other rider, but I was as green as the grassy meadows we were sometimes riding. Thankfully I was in good hands with Justin and the team. A real key to ‘being green’ is to listen and follow direction, and always ask if in doubt. It was a great day riding areas I won’t say too much about so I don’t let out any secrets. At dinner on night one, around the camp fire (and a shared glass of really good red wine), I got some very good coaching and advice about what to focus on with day 2. I also got some amazing camp cuisine cooked by Justin and Delia, and I slept like a log in the professional Swag, with my own BYO backcountry class sleeping bag and pillow.
Day 2 was pretty mind blowing as I started to get into a bit of a groove, staring with what I will now class the ‘world’s best bacon’. I used to think the best was Berkshire. I now know better. On to the ride, back on my very professional and forgiving ‘Charlie’, a very smart horse who helped me significantly.
Knowing the Snowies well as a skier, I was recognising some of the Ranges and areas, which was then augmented by Justin’s significant ‘library of stories’ about the area and it’s history, and the many adventures he and Delia have had there over the years. We did the Reedy Creek ride, and rode it in some very unique conditions for this time of year. These horses are well known to be some of the most footsure and ‘smart’ there are as they have both a highly skilled and experience owner and trainer and guides, but also regularly go through these trails and know them well. River crossings, challenging climbs, and tight single trails keep your mind on the ball. Dinner, man, I don’t want to say too much, but I will just note that the food is bloody good.
Day 3, my Horse, Charlie, got to have a well deserved rest (it’s a very responsible and ethical operation Justin and Delia run), and I got to ride Doug. Our guide was a super experienced local skier, studying vet, and pro horse rider, Nat. Nat took us up to one of the highest points on the property, topping out around 1400m. We had quite the experience, seeing multiple rescued/re-homed Wild Brumby mobs that included young foals, some beautiful pregnant Mares and famous parents of Horses that you see down at Snowy Wilderness. Dinner that night was Lamb Shanks, and my god they were good. There may have been a few songs and a guitar on night 2 and 3, and again, I’ll keep that a secret for people to experience. My only tip is to ask about ‘the Horse outside’ song, but I also note that this is a song reserved for the more mature ears in general. It’s now on our top 10 country songs playlist, that’s for sure. Slept again like a baby out under the stars.
Day 4; our final day. We took a different lap of the property with Justin, which included seeing a whole bunch of wild deer, some rock wallabies, and unfortunately the resident Wombat wasn’t there to greet us (it was his day off). We also went past one of the houses you can rent, and immediately put it on our ‘must return to do’ list.

Summary: this is some real ‘Man from Snowy River’ stuff with an amazing bunch of people. This is true Australian horse and mountain culture that really should be on everyone’s list to do. You don’t have to ride super advanced stuff or even multi day overnights. You can ride trails and at a pace that are most suited to you, or work with Justin and his team to challenge yourself in a safe environment.
Don’t be afraid to camp out under the start, enjoy the bush shower and ‘loo with a view’, bring a change of jocks and socks for every day, and finally…….., always… always give the apple in your lunchbox to your Horse, and if you get given liquorice, it’s not for you, it’s for the Horse.
Thanks especially to Justin, Delia, Bianca, Tegan and Nat (and Charlie and Doug). I score this 11 out of 10.‬

‪Overall, this full day horseriding adventure is unforgettable. The guide was fantastic & very knowledgeable about horses & the Snowys. The scenery is absolutely stunning & brumbies add to the spectacular scenes you will encounter.
We were mostly novices & the full day, in my opinion, is a tad long for completely untrained riders. One couple joined us for the arvo only - I personally would have preferred that although the feeling of accomplishment was great after a whole day on horseback. My horse Dingo was supposedly appropriate for a novice. Dingo was sure-footed & clearly experienced. However, our group was warned of his tendency to bite his rider if unhappy with other horses coming too close. Dingo also seemed to get more annoyed by the end of the day. In the arvo he yanked his reins, took off on me at one point, did a shake-down that my friends thought would surely throw me off, & repeatedly bit me when he was sick of other horses or waiting for slower & more nervous riders particularly at creek crossings. Dingo had been reasonable before lunch, but increasingly pissed off over the arvo. Understandable with a numpty rider, but his well known cranky traits, told to us at the start of the day, make me question why he is given to new riders. By the arvo riders are also pretty tired from the concentration & physicality of a brand new activity & although reasonably fit, I was busted by those last couple of hours (5-5.5hr total). With a tired & increasingly petulant Dingo, & a quite buggered rider, that last hour was not enjoyable at all & something to endure...
I am also only 5 ft/156cm & short leg length & right knee with missing cartilage & no ACL - adds to physical challenges of riding long hours.
Overall a very good & memorable day, but be warned & you'll be better prepared... although maybe it was better I wasn't warned... lol.
Lunch was fresh sandwiches, fruit, drinks, water - I thought perfectly good for the ride. They went to much trouble making GF sandwiches for one of our group. Excellent service from staff. ‬
