Gardens that surround this old church is immaculate. It gives a feeling of a fort, much less church. Worth visit.

The Church of St John the Evangelist is an Anglican Church, built in colonial style. It is a religious landmark of the south-west of Western Australia. This substantial church dates from 1841, barely 10 years after Western Australia was colonised. It is the oldest Church in WA. St Johns was constructed of local stone, making it very strong. The roof is made of local shingles. The church is framed by peppermint trees, which are native to the area. The Church of St John the Evangelist is an impressive structure of which the people of Albany can be proud.

The Church of St John the Evangelist began construction in 1841, making it the oldest church in WA. It is built of shingles and locally quarried stone, which is extremely strong. It is framed by peppermint trees, which are native to the area. The church, hall, rectory and peppermint trees were placed on the register of the National Trust in 1978. St John's is an Anglican Church.

Some lovely ladies showed us round the church which is one of the oldest and prettiest in WA.

Lovely old church in the centre of Albany. Some parts of the church looks a bit like a castle surrounded by very well maintained gardens.

The church site dates to 1844 but wasn't consecrated until October 1848. The tower was added in 1851, constructed by soldiers stationed in the town. Various changes and additions followed during ensuing years and the organ installed in 1891. The first recorded Anzac dawn service was held in the church in 1930, fitting, as it was from Albany that many departed to the killing fields of WW1. Beautiful stained glass windows, baptismal font and eagle lectern.

Modern by UK standards but historic by Australian. We had already visited the Padre White Lookout at the Anzac Centre so were very pleased to go around the church where he took the very first Anzac Day Dawn Service on April 25th 1930. Some of his regalia can be seen there. We were impressed by the very warm welcome from the volunteers, especially as we were interested in the History and not just in there for a look around, they took the time to walk around and give us some interesting facts about the interior, especially the lovely stained glass windows. Well worth the time to go around.

Visited on Sunday 24th November. It looked so beautiful from the outside but sadly the church was locked and we could not see inside as well.

This beautiful old-English style church is the first church consecrated in WA. It has a lovely history of community endeavour. I really liked the stained glass windows, especially the one about Padre White and also the story of the first ANZAC Day service. You don't have ot be religious to appreciated this special place. The gardens are a joy to walk around - all maintained by volunteers.

I came here to look at this lovely stone building and ended up going inside to look at the organ. I then found out that this was the place of the first ever dawn service, I was amazed and surprised and was even more glad that I had visited and learnt about this.
