‪Quiet and peaceful off by itself. Church was open during the day and crosses were well displayed. Don't miss it.‬

‪My going to St. Patrick's was geneology. Many of my 4th, 5th and 6th Great grand parents and countless older grandparents are buried in the "old" section. Unable to find any dates as time has worn them off. But it was good to see the family church. Spend time with the past. The scenery is beautiful. Irish sea right around it all. Wonderful experience.‬

‪Spent more time here than on a previous visit. A thought provoking visit as we viewed relics, pictures and other items from a time gone by and particularly specific to Jurby and the areas contribution to the war effort and memories of the old RAF site once there that helped the air war in the Atlantic during 1939-1945 war years. Humbling to see gravestones and tributes to allied aircrew from Britain, Canada and Poland all buried and resting side by side, their memories forever kept alive in this quite, and windswept graveyard.‬

‪The church is a landmark for many miles around and the churchyard, as other visitors have written, contains war graves. Just inside the church, in the porch are several ancient crosses which are interesting from a historical, religious and aesthetic perspective. A well thumbed descriptive book is available to explain the crosses to visitors. A short visit but interesting.‬

‪I do not necessarily rate this experience as an attraction, but more as a moving experience. To see some of the graves of young men who lost their lives in a conflict that took so many young men to war is moving but worthwhile.‬

‪We visited when there was a large display about the various parish churches and their history just before the Parish walk, so there was much to see. It also contains some of the many old crosses dotted around the island. They were also serving tea and cake which was delicious.

It commands a prominent, isolated position on the edge of the coast near the sea, but it's also on the edge of the former Jurby airfield and therefore has some history with WWII. At the bottom of the cemetery are war graves to various airmen from several countries - there is more information inside.‬

‪Just near the Motor Museum and the Transport Museum is Jurby Church. It has been a place of worship for a millennia and there are still viking gravestones scattered around. The tower incidentally was removed during the war to give planes taking off from Jury airstrip (primarily a training strip, especially for navigation) a clearer flight and replaced afterwards with the Italianate one. Churchyard is unsurprisingly full of graves of airmen and people stationed at the airstrip.‬

‪Jurby Church is set on a hill on the opposite side of the road to the Jurby Airfield. On most days it stands out as a special landmark on the West coast of the Island.
Its most recent history is with the RAF and WWII.
Sadly it is a bit rundown now and there are only a few services a year. It suffers from interior dampness which has caused some discolouration on the inside walls.
But it is well worth the visit to pay your respects to all the RAF personnel who flew from Jurby during the Second World War.
There are RAF flags, photographs, paintings, newspaper cuttings, models and other bits of information inside the church.
The glass windows in the porchway are etched with RAF planes and a poem. There are also some Celtic stones in the porchway.
Be sure to sign the visitors book!
Alongside the church is a graveyard containing quite a number of War Graves. Two things strike you.
1. The different nationalities who were involved in the War, and 2. The young ages of the pilots.
Very sad!
Well worth a visit.‬

‪This is one of the small gems on the Isle of Man - away from the main towns in the north West of the Island Jurby Church is steeped in History both modern and older.
There's a direct link into the 2nd world war with stained glass windows of Aircraft which flew from nearby Jurby & Andreas airfields during the 2nd World war.
Please take tome to read it's so interesting not just about the general details but personal accounts as well.
That said the church is small, quaint and a peaceful spot & weekends the volunteers sometime provide cakes for the visitors to purchase to support the up keep.
in 2015 the Victoria sponge (slab) was to die for.
Finally take a walk to the bottom of the grave yard and you''ll see some of the 'war graves' of some poor souls who passed away during the 2nd world war flying to keep a peaceful world. It's haunting to see one after another who passed away on the same day and no doubt in the same plane. English, Polish and Australians to name but a few.
Please stand and take a moment.
Honestly a lovely place to relax and take in some air and remember‬
