‪We visited Auschwitz-Birkenhau on a small group day trip from Krakow with hotel pick up; our bus also took us between the sites rather than the officially provided shuttle bus.
We had the same guide, Lucas, at both sites. He had an excellent manner, delivering the information in a very appropriate manner but also managing to be friendly. He was very knowledgeable indeed and answered all additional questions from our group in full detail.
The tour does move relatively quickly round both sites, I suspect because of sheer numbers of visitors they have every day, but there was still enough time to absorb key sights and information and quickly take photos (which are allowed in almost all parts of the sites). You do have to keep up with your group. The audio headsets in Auschwitz I worked very well most of the time, although not so well inside the barracks at times. At Birkenhau we were outside most of the time so our guide just talked directly to us; there is more space so it is easier to do so there.
I was expecting to get more upset than I did but actually nothing was unexpectedly horrific in detail although there are many moving and awful facts and things you see.
A place everyone needs to visit because we must never be allowed to let these horrors disappear from our collective consciousness; visiting is a way of remembering all those lives so cruelly taken away.‬

‪Un des avis les plus difficiles à écrire. Mais il me semble qu'il est important de visiter ce lieu chargé d'histoire, avec le plus grand respect et la plus grande bienveillance. Merci à notre guide, qui nous a permis de mieux comprendre.‬

‪かねてより行きたいと思っており、３０年越しの願いが叶いました。行ってよかったです。クラクフ発のオプショナルツアーに参加しました。英語ガイドでしたので、入り口で日本語のガイドブックを購入しました。２０ズロチで買えます。当時のままの有刺鉄線、粗末なバラック、ガス室、、、胸が苦しくなる展示でした。だけど、世界中の人に、一度は行ってほしい。見てほしい。‬

‪A soulful, must see experience.‬

‪We were able to visit being added to an organized group tour. The reservation/ visit process is very organized and strict( one person likened it to getting through an airport security check). What impressed me the most was the large number of seemingly high school age groups visiting. I was told it is compulsory in Poland; other countries could benefit from such a requirement.
The size , the organization it took to create such a place and the efficiency of how to degrade and kill people are heart stopping. I found the most heart wrenching ,displays of personal belongings and the punishment chambers, even though you could call everything seen is heart wrenching.‬

‪Το "χειροτερο μερος" στον πλανητη.‬

‪Δεν ειναι αξιοθεατο. Ειναι το χειροτερο σημειο του πλανητη. Ειναι εκει που οι Γερμανοι σκοτωναν μεσα σε μια μερα, σχεδον καθε μερα ,5000 ανθρωπους χωρις λογο. Πανω απο ενα εκατομμυριο ανθρωποι δολοφονηθηκαν μεσα σε λιγα χρονια. Ενα μερος που σε κανει να αηδιαζεις για τον ανθρωπο, το χειροτερο ον που γεννηθηκε στον πλανητη. Δεν ειναι για σελφι,δεν ειναι για γελια, δεν ειναι για χαμογελα...ειναι τοπος στοχασμου...για να μαθουμε και να μην επιτρεψουμε εμεις και οι διαδοχοι μας να γινει ποτε ξανα.
Κατα τα λοιπα....η ελευθερη εισοδος ειναι μετα τις 4 το απογευμα. Καλο ειναι να μπειτε σε ομαδα με ξεναγο, ιδιαιτερα αν δεν εχετε ασχοληθει με το αντικειμενο. Ειναι καλα οργανωμενο στο συστημα. Κοστος περιπου 20 Ευρω το ατομο. Διαρκεια 3,5 ωρες.‬

‪It would be a shame to visit the Krakow area and not pay a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau.

This is a heavy, surreal experience that requires a full day. I took a guided tour booked through the museum. The guide was very knowledgeable and the tour was very informative.

That said, the tour felt rushed, in part because there are so many tour groups always following behind so there is no real time to stop. Furthermore, the content focused on the details of the history and the mechanics of the massive crimes against humanity that were committed here. There was virtually nothing in the way of personal stories that could allow participants to connect with what happened on an individual level.

As a result of these things, it was hard for me to take everything in and connect emotionally in the moment.

I don't regret taking the tour as I do think it is worthwhile way to experience Auschwitz-Birkenau, but I plan to return in the future and spend a day at both locations on my own so that I can visit at my own pace and have the space to process what happened here.‬

‪La plus douloureuse des visites‬

‪Il y a comme ça, des endroits incontournables à voir sur Terre… cela en fait partie.

La visite est difficile à faire émotionnellement. Il y a une grosse différence entre les petites photos dans les livres d’histoires et le fait d’être présent.

Je n’ai toujours pas assez de mots pour exprimer tout ce que j’ai pu ressentir la bas.‬

‪A must visit experience ‬

‪If you are visiting Poland, taking a trip to Auschwitz is a must. The tour is around 3 and half hours and is very informative. Make sure you buy your tickets from the official Auschwitz website to avoid paying more. And make sure you have comfortable shoes as you will walk a lot!‬

‪一度は訪問すべき負の遺産‬

‪公式サイトから予約する英語ツアーに参加しました。解説を聞けるのはありがたい反面、25人くらい参加者がいて、どうしても流れ作業的になってしまうのは残念なところです。無線レシーバーは貸与されるので、声は概ね聞けるのは助かりました。
前半はアウシュビッツ、後半は無料シャトルバスでビルケナウに移動して、概ね3時間くらいかかりました。
日本からのアクセスは容易ではありませんが、人類の負の遺産として、やはり一度は訪れるべき場所ではないかと思いました。‬
