After a fantastic, week long SUP & Wine Tasting Slovenia tour my (non-SUPing) partner and I did last year with Samo, I was eager to join Samo and his wife Katarina for the Italian Explorers tour earlier this year. This time I went solo since this tour seemed more intense (2wks long, different location every day), and Jerry doesn’t like to spend more than a week out of home. The schedule was perfect for me since I LOVE to experience as much as possible within the time I allocate for my trips.
Why I would recommend travelling with Samo and Katarina:
- prearranged hotels, restaurants, SUPing/swimming locations that they thoroughly researched to provide most local, unique experience. I bet I wouldn’t find those great access points to fantastic paddling locations on my own.
- although itinerary was ready prior to our trip, they were always willing to adjust it based on weather and group’s preference
- something for everyone: while Samo pushed me out of my comfort zone encouraging to paddle choppy, windy waters (highly appreciated afterwards), less adventurous members from our group enjoyed swimming and basking in sunshine on gorgeous Italian beaches
- Samo and Katarina are very experienced paddlers and swimmers. I have never felt unsafe on the water while they were around.
- time together spent driving to new locations and family style meal sharing encouraged stories exchange that bonded us for life
I can’t wait until my next trip with SUP Slovenia Discovery next year. Hope to see everyone in Greece!

Our second time travelling with Samo from SUP Discovery Slovenia. Our first was in 2019…Alps to Coast tour (which I also highly recommend). This time we were on the Italian Explorers 2 week tour. We met in Olbia, Sardinia and spent a week travelling around Sardinia in a van. There were 5 guests and Samo and his gorgeous wife Katarina escorted us. Everything was taken care of: accommodation, food, transport, boards etc and Samo had hand picked many experiences for us including wine tastings and lunches in spots only locals know about. It was a bit windy that week but Samo tried to find us the most sheltered places to paddle and then enjoy a post paddle aperol overlooking crystal clear waters. We then caught an overnight ferry to just north of Rome where we had the pleasure of bathing in the thermal springs of Saturnia (stunning) before paddling in a couple of Tuscan lakes and visiting the stunning towns of Montepulciano and Perugia. We had overnight stays in stunning wineries before we reached the Adriatic coast and had some epic paddles around Ancona and Gargano National Park. The remainder of the 2nd week was spent touring around Puglia including a visit to the UNESCO town of Alberobello and the white towns of Polignano and Monopoli. All up we covered around 2000kms over 2 weeks and lived like locals. Samo is a very enthusiastic host who wants nothing more than to share his favourite experiences with his guests. This won’t be our last trip and we highly recommend SUP Discovery Slovenia to anyone. Its not all about the paddling, it’s about sharing delicious wine, food, travel and fun times with like minded people who become good friends!

The Italian Explorers Adventure hosted by SUP-Slovenia was nothing short of magical. We dropped a SUP in Sardenia and paddled our way to Puglia, moving to a new city almost every day for two weeks. The days were filled with breathtaking views, fun in the sun, delicious foods, jammy wines, and wonderful conversation with new and lifelong friends. Samo, our adventure-seeking guide, masterfully guided us to quiet beaches, and remote locations along the journey. We stayed in beautiful boutique hotels, and dined at some very special restaurants at every meal. Joining a tour with SUP-Slovenia is easy, safe and worry-free. Traveling with Samo and his beautiful wife, Katarina is easily one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. All you must do is pack a bag and show up! Check out the tours on their website and plan to meet me in Greece in 2025!!!

The trip of a lifetime! One won’t be enough. You will return for another and possibly another!
I did 2 separate trips in 2023 and a 3rd trip is in my future. I loved the bespoke itineraries that are designed for intimate groups of like minded people. We went places commercial tours could never go. From visiting winemakers in Bulgaria and Greece to visiting perhaps the most well regarded salami artisan in Slovenia to an unforgettable farm to table restaurant in the countryside. I won’t spoil all the surprises in this review. Trust me, there are so many!
The paddling was one of the main attractions in some of the most drop dead scenic locations ever. Check out his instagram or Facebook. The photos do not lie! We also did some gorgeous hikes to waterfalls. If you're in Slovenia, be sure to hike up for the view looking down on Lake Bled.
Accommodations were a combo of more unique, local and rustic. Always clean and more than adequate with a delicious breakfast, to more upscale luxurious accommodations with more gourmet level restaurants. There was a mountain spa hotel in Bulgaria with a fantastic restaurant. There was another restaurant in a former monastery that was amazing.
Think immersion into local cultures, local wine and local food. Foodies and wine lovers will not be disappointed. The new wines, all natural, were one of the highlights. Every day is different, everything is done for you so all you need to do is pack your bag and book your flights. The tour each day might adjust to the wishes of the group and be tailored to the weather conditions.
I saved the best for last. That is the tour guide extraordinaire Samo and his lovely wife. I promise you won’t find someone that tries harder to please and puts his whole heart into creating the most incredible experience for his guests. They make it look easy because they are right there having fun with everyone. His tours fill up fast and the itineraries might not be repeated. In that sense it might be a once in a lifetime opportunity. You will likely be joined by people from around the world. On my last trip that began in Slovenia and continued through Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, the Greece mainland and finally the Greek Isle of Crete, there were people from 5 countries and 3 continents. The atmosphere that is cultivated is not only similar to being among friends. You will surely become friends. Then return for another trip as old friends!

Coming to check us out for a week in Slovenia, and then immediately book the trip to Bulgaria and Greece for 3 more weeks!
It was a wonderful experience having you for almost a month, we did see so many wonderful places, met many great people, and made tons of memories.
We became friends, and this means a lot. I know you'll be back, there are so many interesting experiences to share.

We loved our first trip with Sup Slovenia Discovery that we came back again for another one! This time we travelled to some different parts of Slovenia and went into northern Croatia. I was a little nervous that perhaps a second trip wouldn't be as good as the first, but I need not have worried! We were taken to some brilliant sup locations and we stayed in some wonderful guest houses - the types of places you feel privileged to be taken to, where the food and the hosting was exceptional. Samo is the most accommodating and friendly guide, who made the trip work for us and our children. An experience never to forget, and a lifetime of memories!

I celebrated a milestone birthday with a spectacular trip hosted by Samo and SUP Discovery Slovenia. My requirements were simple: do cool stuff with cool people. I had one objective: return to a childhood wonderland and paddle Lake Bled for my 60th birthday. I'm a rookie paddler and I didn't know paddleboarding Lake Bled was a thing! My friend Google led me directly to SUP Discovery and I didn't hesitate to learn more. Samo and I shared a few emails, and within a few days my trip was confirmed. All I had to do was show up. You're reading that correctly! All I had to do was show up. I am a planner and solve complex problems in my work. I felt immediate trust and confidence leaving the planning to Samo. Quite honestly, I was looking for an unscripted adventure and didn't feel the need to consider other providers. Communications are super easy, and Samo is quick to respond, the payment process is secure, and special considerations are no issue for your host. Take careful note when he tells you about a special plan, or a short stop for a quick hike. These will be over-the-top experiences with breathtaking sights, extraordinary food, delicious wine and wonderful conversation; all you have to do is show up. Easily one of the best decisions I've ever made. Now get your passport current and join me for an adventure soon!

From BE MY GUEST to “COME EXPLORE WITH ME”…. These guys have roots in Slovenia and a passion for Greece; I followed this group from roots to passion with zero regrets. Each trip a leap of faith, rewarded by no opportunities missed. Where conditions for paddling weren’t perfect….we persevered in spirit, effort, alternatives and above all company. Don’t get me wrong….paddling didn’t disappoint, but flexible minds and spirits are required to experience the very most unexpected and rewarding ventures. Samo the adventure warrior, tempered by loving companion and partner Katarina…..it was nothing less than parents doing their utmost to give the most of life to those they love best… they indulged with us…they played with us….they exposed us to the best of life…. I know that I would not know Crete as intimately as I do after a single visit if it was not for SUP Slovenia…we passed go and only hit the best of the best….some of this beaten path and some of this hidden and local treasures. Food, drink, culture, tradition all while making the most of nature. East to West, North to South and back again…no stone unturned, I’m left fulfilled and longing for more.

I've done 2 tours with Samo now, and that should tell you something. Both tours, in Slovenia and in Crete, have been great fun and very well planned and organised. Samo always chooses great accommodation and excellent places to eat, with interesting and well chosen side trips in addition to wonderful places to paddle. He is very flexible, and always makes sure we're happy with the plans. I absolutely recommend a tour with Samo.

We had a wonderful paddle in Slovenia, visiting new places and also revisiting some of our favourites from our first trip. Samo is a perfect host and as an excellent paddler himself, he appreciates his guests ability levels and adopts days to suit, so that you get the best from your trip. Wonderful food, wines, paddling, scenery……we will definitely travel and do another tour with Samo 😃

We were a group of 5 oldish men (65 to 83 years old).
Samo organised a everything inclusive (accomodation,transport,equiptment all meals,drinks etc.etc) 11 day tour .
It was a trip of a live time.
We visited places you can not find without local knowlege.
Samo is the perfect host and nothing is to difficult.
I can highly recomend Samo's tour company.
Sadly 5 stars is not enough.
