Slovakia is a beautiful country, the land of my ancestors. My husband and I, our 3 adult children and my sister took a 9 day genealogical /sightseeing tour. Our tour was fabulous . It provided insight into why my ancestors emigrated, what their life was like, what the county was like in the late 1890s and early 1900s, plus customs and culture. Our sightseeing highlights included castles, historic villages, traditional food and so much more. Juraj did extensive genealogical research for us which resulted in our visiting with relatives we had not known before. Because of Juraj's research we were able to visit mills and sites of mills which were significant in the life of my great grandfather, a miller. Juraj was flexible, knowledgeable and very helpful when we had to reschedule our trip because of Covid.
Our tour guide was Tomas. He was very well informed, a great all around guy, who saw to our comfort and was a suburb driver. Tomas made sure we knew that the tour was "our tour" and we could tweak it if we wanted to. When my husband's glasses broke we stopped at a shop to see if they could be fixed. When I wanted to take a picture of a storks nest we pulled to the side of the road to do so.
We have taken many tours, including Viking tours which were great. However "Time for Slovakia" is our best ever tour, a life time experience, not to be forgotten. Nor will we forget Juraj and Tomas. They are now our friends.

We did a private tour with highlights of Slovakia and visits to villages where my great-grandparents came from. I was impressed with the extent of research Juri did into my family's geneology to find the towns, churches, and gravesites of my ancestors. When we visited these towns, we were warmly welcomed by a town official and priest who helped us understand the history of my family's origins. I was blown away!
Our tour guide for this trip, Tomas, was very personable, extremely knowledgeable, and an absolute pleasure to travel with. He was a very competent and reliable driver, knew a great deal about all the historic sites we visited, and made our trip go smoothly. I wish I could have spent more time with him traveling about the country. I plan to go back to see the villages of the other side of my family and delve deeper into the countries' history and, when I do, will request him again. Thanks guys!!

Nothing but good words for this tour operator, from planning stage to executation of the program.
Tomas, our guide was knowledgeable and had a great added value.
Great value for money compared to orgenized tours offered from Israel with full bus, and depending on other people, not to mention visiting and taking parts in activities not suitable and not offered to large groups as far as I know.
Bottom line, had a great time and brought back memories.

I fully endorse the enthusiastic comments of other reviewers. Tomas was an excellent and courteous driver and guide. Joraj had been so helpful in customising our tour covering many of the places and activities enthused about by other reviewers.
We would not hesitate to recommend TIME FOR SLOVAKIA to anyone wishing to sample the culture, sights and towns. Their web site gives an accurate illustrated guide to the various places and activities, with better pjotos than we could upload.
The precoded categories of questions below are clearly mostly not applicable.

We had a great experience from start to finish with Time for Slovakia. We booked a private multi day tour for our family of four. They were really responsive from our first inquiry and throughout the process of planning our itinerary. Patrik our guide was great. He is polite, knowledgable helpful and always on time--but also a lot of fun and a very safe and responsible driver. We found Time for Slovakia to be a 5 star experience in every way and would highly recommend this tour company.

When my husband and I decided we wanted to visit Slovakia, we were hesitant about making our usual independent arrangements in a country where we knew not one word of Slovak, so I browsed the internet for a local guide. Time for Slovakia appeared on my screen with an enchanting website.
Looking over the various tours Juraj offered, I wanted to take all of them! And when I read the superlative reviews for Time for Slovakia on Trip Advisor, I was convinced this was the perfect tour company for us. I sent a message to Juraj. His first reply was friendly, professional, and brimming with information. We were hooked – and so we booked – for a two-week tour. At our next meeting of local travel friends, I mentioned we were going to Slovakia with Time for Slovakia. We ended up taking five friends with us, each of whom loved every aspect of our tour.
The pace of our trip as planned by Juraj was perfect, a masterful job of planning a well-paced comprehensive itinerary, which included all of our chosen sites, and a very reasonable price. Add to this the warmth and flexibility that our guides Tomas and Patrik offered. They did a stellar job of guiding us from day to day while quietly taking care of the details that freed us to just enjoy ourselves.
We hadthirteen unforgettable days of adventure, history, mountains, concerts, and delicious meals. We had such a perfect time that we’re already looking for a way we can have another journey with Time for Slovakia!

Choose TIME FOR SLOVAKIA if you are looking for:
- An incredible experience in the beautiful country of Slovakia
- A private tour that is customized to your interests
- Viewing the breath taking National Park of The High Tatra Mountain range
- Visiting unbelievable castles (more per capita than any other country)
- Visiting and often staying in beautiful UNESCO quaint villages
- Visiting remarkably preserved churches
- Visiting folk museums that will give you a complete understanding of past times.
- Seeing the drop dead gorgeous lakes with incredible mountains in the
background
- History lessons that will fill your head and heart including seeing for yourself the
dark moments of WWII
- Seeing the iconic wooden churches of Slovakia.
- Eating new or familiar wonderfully unique Slovak food and drink.
AND IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AN ADDED ANCESTRY VISIT LOOK NO FURTHER. (we did that also)
The owner, Juraj Drobka is the master of detail of ancestry and his curiosity for our ancestry information was remarkable.
Or guide was Tomas who didn't just take the plan given him, but with his love of his country expanded it with with history, knowledge, humor, guidance, language help and so much more.
Added to being our guide, he was our expert driver, personal photographer, interpreter, historian, local knowledge buff and also was eager to answer any question we ask. (and we had many)
I am also convinced in seeing how Juraj runs his business that his bar for excellence for all his guides is very high.
Our experience is that the team of TIME FOR SLOVAKIA are indeed, "Memory Makers".

Our family wanted to visit Slovenia and Croatia this year in April and we were searching for a guided tour in those countries. After our amazing tour with Time for Slovakia, we were keeping in touch with Tomas and I've asked him if he is familiar with a guide for those countries.
We had few emails about it and I was also talking with guides that are working there.
After a while Tomas told me that their company can arrange for us a tour for Slovenia and Croatia. We immediately liked the idea!
We started a session of emails with Juraj from Time for Slovakia and eventually came out with 9 days tour, starting from Vienna, going through Slovenia, Croatia and back to Vienna. The tour was vastly varied and included amazing sites, tracks in nature, huge caves, historical locations and cities, snow on the mountains and also sun at the beach. Good food, a bit of shopping and the amazing company of Tomas are a major part of making this tour so great and they are included as well :)
We met Tomas at the Vienna airport and it was like seeing again a family member we were all missing! Our group of three adults and four youngsters were all very pleased and glad. We felt safe and knew that it is going to be an amazing tour.
We had an unforgettable time and I want to let you know why we think their company is so good by telling you about some highlights that emphasize the greatness of Time for Slovakia (and the reason we chose them for the second time):
We saw that the weather is going to be chilly and rainy in the first part of our tour and Tomas, as usual, was always checking with Juraj how to make the best out of the weather. So although it seem the weather isn't on our side, eventually we manged to see all the planned attractions and even more!
When we traveled to Croatia the weather changed to a warm welcome.
We had an amazing afternoon in Rovinj and stayed for the night. We asked Tomas if we can change the plan and stay there until the evening instead of leaving in the morning and if he can find something to do in this magical city.
Tomas, without any complain for the short notice change of plan, was looking for our options. He managed to book us a private tour on a 42 people capacity fishing / tourism boat for two hours. It was amazing and my 10 year boy had a great time with the captain's first man - he let him navigate the boat during most of this tour!
During the tour Tomas stayed with us until we finished the plan for the day, even when it was quite late and he was tired from the long hours of driving and hiking.
All the time he cared for our well being and did everything he can to make sure we are having the best of our time.
Tomas gave us a great history lesson and we had long talks about various topics.
So it seems we managed to initiate a new tour line for Time for Slovakia and it was absolutely amazing for all of us.
We all warmly recommend to enjoy the service of Tomas and Juraj and our group is going to do it for the third time in few years!!

I connected with a DNA link on Ancestry, and through back-and-forth exchanges learned they visited Slovakia with Time for Slovakia and had a great experience. When an opportunity arose for us to visit the fatherland, we jumped at the chance and contacted the company to arrange. Our situation may be unique considering we only had three months before we were to visit. Here is a breakdown of our experience:
Planning: Overall Juraj does a good job taking into consideration your interests and ability (or lack of ability) to get around. We really had no idea what we wanted to do so we leaned on his expertise to guide us. There were a few places we weren’t crazy about visiting but looking back it really was fine and more interesting than we thought. My main issue was getting responses back. With a tightened timeline, there were several times I had to wait a week for a reply – I think once I had to follow up and find out if my email was received. To me, 24 hours is common courtesy, over 48 hours is usually when I start questioning if I’m getting a response. To be clear, these were questions directly related to potential places to visit, not expecting the entire itinerary to be updated the next day. Even an email like, ‘hey I’m going to check on that for you’ would have been appreciated. I know Juraj is working with multiple people, but sometimes I wondered if we were going to have anything planned before we arrived! By the time we received the itinerary I really didn’t feel we had enough time left to make changes. My suggestion to others is to start as early as possible and leave plenty of time to plan so you don’t feel stressed! Also, before the trip you pay through an online site that converts your currency to Euros. I would consider myself very computer literate, but the site was difficult to navigate. I knew the amount in Euros, but it seemed to only let me put in USD, so I had to go back-and-forth until the correct amount was showing in Euros. Moral of the story, you won’t sit down and get this done in 5 minutes. It probably took me close to an hour fiddling with the site.
The Initial Meeting: Okay, if I’m being honest, it was awkward. We were told Patrik would drive up to our hotel at a certain time in a marked van as parking was limited. Since it was a nice day, we decided to sit on the benches outside 15 minutes before the scheduled time. It was a quiet day, no cars or vans out front, only another family eating ice cream on a nearby bench ….and a guy loitering around. He smiled at us, so we thought he was just being pleasant. As I mentioned there were no vehicles around, so it never crossed our mind that was him (plus he looked too young). The longer we waited, the more he kept eyeing us weirdly. He must have eventually got up the courage to wander over, where we realized he was in fact our guide. Maybe a photo would have helped? Or ‘he will be wearing X colored shirt’? I wonder what would have happened if there were more people around? I think this needs to be ironed out better.
The Trip: Now that we got through the communication hurdles, battled through the payment site, and survived the blind date meeting, the rest was bliss! Patrik is truly a standup guy who went out of his way to take care of us. He learned our likes and made special pit stops along the way to see things that would interest us. When climbing 668 stairs at Orava Castle wasn’t in the cards for one person, he stayed behind to make sure everyone felt included. It’s hard nowadays to find someone with the level of respect and courtesy Patrik exhibited. I really can’t say enough good things about Patrik as a person, but more importantly as a guide, driver, photographer, and translator. He was very professional and answered 1000 questions everyday for us. He was also a safe and cautious driver and never made us feel uneasy while in the van.
My opinion/Tips: Going with a private tour is the only way you should explore Slovakia. There are many areas where people don’t speak English and having local knowledge allows you to experience the country authentically. The wooden churches were closed for the season, but Patrik was able to call a local to open it for us and allow us to take pictures when it’s normally not allowed. If you get the chance, the wooden churches are really a special sight to see and experience. Another tip, I would highly suggest taking the cable car to the top of Lomnický štít. It was definitely one of the highlights of our trip and what better way to get a lay of the land than from 8,642 feet up?! They usually don’t add this to the itinerary because of costs (I think the tickets were around 45 Euros each), but it was worth every penny! If you get sunny skies like we did, it makes it even more magical. Also, we really didn’t need much cash. Every restaurant we visited took credit card and we picked up souvenirs in a shop in Bratislava where everyone takes credit card. We did buy sheep cheese from a roadside vendor, but other than that, having a credit card will serve you well.
Overall, we really enjoyed ourselves and I would absolutely recommend Time for Slovakia to others. They are a newer company, so there are a few quirks to work out, but in general we were very satisfied.

Time for Slovakia is an amazing tour company that provided my daughters and I a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I would recommend this company to anyone. After being unable to trace my Slovak family roots I contacted Time for Slovakia for help. Juraj went above and beyond what I expected. It is evident that he is passionate about his clients; accommodating the details of the trip to all of my requests in order to provide the best experience. He responded to all of my emails immediately and created the perfect itinerary.
Our fabulous guide Patrik executed the trip flawlessly, enhancing our experience. We visited majestic mountains, breathtaking castles and stunning medieval towns. We were able to sample local cuisine with Patrick’s helpful guidance, including a hefty bag of the best smoked cheese we ever had from a cute sheep farm.
If you are considering a trip to Slovakia, book with Time for Slovakia. You are guaranteed a memorable experience.
