Bizar dat dit bestaat! Toch bijzonder dat dit door de tijd heen is blijven staan. De naam ‘cage of shame’ is dan weer goed gekozen... Het is echt om je voor te schamen dag dit gebruikt is.

Velmi pekne spracovana cast o vzniku Levoce. Nasho maleho syna expozicia velmi zaujala. Odporucam aj dalsie mozne prehliadky, hlavne dom majstra Pavla.

As a tourist attraction, this should only rate Average. However, for anecdotal purposes, it rises to the level of Very Good. The Cage of Shame, a 16th century contraption fashioned from wrought iron (it looks like a bird cage), is located by the south wall of the Town Hall. It was used as a form of public shaming not only in Levoca, but in many other towns across Slovakia.
In order to maximize the dishonor, the cage was used during fairs, markets, and festivals when large crowds could be expected. People, specifically women, would be locked up for various offenses such as gossiping excessively, cheating on your spouse, public drunkenness, and other bad behaviors.
If you look closely, you will note a small metal heart worked into the design of the door. Our local guide told us that it was to whisper to the next delinquent, "This is for your own good."

Since the visit takes a maximum of 10minutes to visit Cage of Shame it definitely is worth a visit knowing its history.

Pekný detail v centre mesta, dopĺňa kompozíciu fotiek :) Ja bohužiaľ fotku nemám, pretože na ňu nejaká skupina horlivých cyklistov odparkovala asi 20 bicyklov... Je to škoda.

On ne peut la manquer. On y entre, on se fait prendre en photo.

It is good for photos - I am sure it is fairly new and was not used to display people that needed to be taught a lesson, although that may have been tempting. I mostly saw children enter and other people for photos.

Had several pics taken in the cage, where I belong. Seemed to be a magnet for all visiting this lovely town. On the weekend, a local dressed as an executioner to add more fun.

Während es in vielen Orten einen Schandpfahl aus dem Mittelalter gibt, hat Levoca etwas Ungewöhnliches aufzuweisen, einen Schandkäfig!
