Te Whau Vineyard has great food and the service is outstanding. Fresh New Zealand produce is used whenever it is available. This is a boutique, family-run winery, founded in 1993. There are great views across Hauriki Bay, with Auckland in the distance.

Had been here once before some years ago, and as this was the same experience again I have to say I would not go back. There is nothing wrong with this place, but there is nothing special either.
I found nothing standout here in regards to service, food or atmosphere. I would choose one of the many other options on the island.

We visited the Te Whau Vineyard as part of the Waiheke Island winery tours. This was the last winery we visited on the tour. There is about a 45 minute ferry ride that originates from Auckland that we had to take, which was quite enjoyable.
The owner spent about 30 minutes discussing the process of winemaking. I actually learned quite a bit from his lecture and it gave me a deeper respect for the process. You are provided two different tastings. There is also a restaurant on the premises. Highly recommend visiting this Vineyard.

A nice spot to visit.
Stroll around the vineyard and/or have a drink/dinner at the restaurant!
The view is very nice. Nice wines as well.
Very popular place though, can be crowded.

I love the fact that you have been rated the most obnoxious owner on waiheke island !! Very good title !! I was on a fullers tour today 2 /02/17 and I am sorry to say that we had a very nice experience! I was the only French man on the tour and bought two bottles of your top cuvée 2013/14 one of each vintage .
As the owner of a restaurant business myself ( been voted once on tripadvisor as very rude as well ) you have to realise that unfortunately you can't please everyone but you know that you are doing something right when you are always full for a restaurant or in your case when your wine is recognised by the top wine critics .
Keep on the good work and looking forward to taste your lovely wine

Before I get stuck in to this, I would like to say that this review should not be a reflection of the young staff who work at the property as they were the only good thing about the place!
OK so this is the second time we have been to Te Whau, the first being as a family with a young baby and the second as a group for a pre-booked wine tasting and on both occasions I must say I have never met a more obnoxious and condescending human in my life than Tony the owner.
The man is quite simply rude to the point where I am shocked that anyone goes to this establishment. Lets just say that its a good thing the place has sensational views because if it were anywhere else then I am sure he would have gone out of business!
I was with a group of very well educated and polite people aged mid 20's to late 50's and the way he looks down his stupid glasses at you like you are a child is petulant to say the very least. He doesn't speak to you unless he knows you and spends the rest of the time frowning or giving condescending looks at members of your group.
If my friends or family acted like he did, then I would give them a slap but unfortunately that is frowned upon so the most I can do is deter people from visiting in a hope that this rude, offensive and intolerable man will learn that manners cost nothing and that a smile goes a long way!!
Ps to all the staff that have to work for this idiot, then you have my deepest sympathies!
PPS to anyone reading this, Visit Batch Winery or cable Bay for better views and the most polite and friendly service ever!!!!

Hi David, we appreciate your feedback. As always, there are two sides to every story. Firstly, we love working with Tony, his humour and passion for wine is unrivalled on the island. Secondly, he didn't even deal with this group, we (the staff) did, and we found your group very difficult to service. It was a very busy afternoon and we were all juggling service the best we could. You did not seem interested in our wines, didn't listen to what we had to say, just talked amongst yourselves and wandered around and possibly our stress about this relayed itself back to you. There was a dispute over how many people were in your group, we were told one thing, then vehemently told another. And then all 16? of you wanted to pay separately. Many establishments would not stand for that and it is unusual that a booked group for tasting would pay individually. However, because you were adamant, we agreed to your demand and proceeded to pay off one by one, taking a long time, holding up other customers and, predictably, ending with an outstanding amount and everyone saying they had paid So, we credited the last tastes. An unsatisfactory experience for everyone and one which upset us also. A personal attack on Tony is unjustified as he did not even take the tasting (which is why he didn't speak with you!) so it was our young staff member who felt the brunt of it and was very distressed for some time afterwards due to the attitude of your group who had not listened to her tasting and who she felt were extremely disrespectful.

This place is set in such a stunning stunning setting....breathtaking views and really yummy wine. Highly recommend

As a part of our winery tour on Waiheke Island, we stopped the the Te Whau Vineyard. The wine was excellent, and the owner shared his love of wine and New Zealand, while explaining why New Zealand wines, and his in particular, are superior to most any others from anywhere. I applaud his obvious passion for wine, and doing things the right way. I was a bit put off by his fairly pushy sales-tactics on purchasing wine for shipment back to the US.

Stunning setting, well worth driving out to. If you are lucky enough to get a balcony seat, the view is hard to beat..! The view is over a steep vineyard heading down to Okahuiti bay. Very friendly and welcoming staff who were very knowledgeable with their range. Tasting includes 4 of the same red from 4 different years. May be disappointing if you don't like reds. Great for couples and small groups. Wouldn't bring kids
