My family came here yesterday to check out the lake and do some hiking. Parked off the main road in and found a trail that led us around the east side of the lake. It was a windy day, but no big deal. We me a few people hiking the same area. Went until we came upon private property, so we went up to the main road and back to the car. Easy hike. Would do it again

We first visited Fallen Leaf lake while cross country skiing to it back many years ago, and I recall then it was just beautiful with the snowcapped mountains in the background. We visited this time a few weeks ago, and it was still quite beautiful. We enterered the drive to the campgrounds and then veered left following the signs to the day visitor parking. We then walked a short distance to get to the lake. When we were there, in the afternoon, it wasn't crowded and we were easily able to find a little cove to place our things and go out in the water for a swim. It is quite beautiful and peaceful and worth a visit.

Otro lago espectacular, no es tan grande como El gran Lago Tahoe pero no deja de ser hermoso y con unas impresionantes vistas a las montañas, tienes que visitarlo.

Stayed at the Fallen Leaf Lake Campgrounds. Great location near Camp Richardson. The lake itself is very pretty with many cabins in the southern edge. We rented a pantoon boat and hit the lake with 8 people. Very fun. Also just a quick trip into the town of South Lake Tahoe, so close to many things.

This is a great lake with some beautiful waterfalls at the end - drive up along the lake and then continue a bit further to waterfalls

My wife and I are fortunate to live only an hour and a half from Lake Tahoe, and we visit Fallen Leaf Lake every time we visit Lake Tahoe. Yes the drive up to the lake is narrow, but most drive slow and are very careful, and friendly. You can rent a boat or canoe and enjoy the lake. Also, there is a store with food and drinks available. If you drive past the lake you come to a beautiful waterfall. It's very relaxing to sit and listen to the water flowing by. There is another lake beyond the waterfall, and you can hike around this lake, and take in its beauty. Well worth a visit when in Lake Tahoe.

We spent about half a day fishing and boating at the lake. There was ample space to hang around. The scenery was breathtaking and the waters were calm even for the kids to explore the vicinity. It was a great hangout place for family bonding time.

Beautiful camping area. Many campers have small air horns to use where bears are spotted to scare them away. The facilities have coin operated showers, was surprised and disappointed by that.

I've reviewed the Falls, but couldn't find a location for these springs. Once you get to the falls the remaining hike is pretty easy with only a few water crossings. You can prowl around the old camp; it's all boarded/locked, but there are signs of recent use. Imagine getting up here in the late 1800's in a wagon! Our group tried the water from the Soda springs. It's highly carbonated and mineralized; this was a thriving bottled water business many years ago. Lots of iron as can be seen in the rusty looking environment. Check out the old barn/storage facility, especially the rock foundation. The hike is not at all bad and there are cabins/houses along the way (follow the electric lines). If prepared, you could hike over the ridges and finally get to Horsetail falls. Not on this day trip though! The hike back goes fast and walking through the water is refreshing. Look for many signs of beavers; there's one lodge near the trail head.

Hi past campers at Fallen Lake, I see a few reviews about the "one way" and "narrow" drive- how long is this unpleasant, one way path? Thank you!

Only a short distance to the campground and to that point, it's really not bad. If your going to continue on the road, say to the other end of the lake, it's pretty narrow. Fine with a car or regular truck. Just be patient, enjoy the views and work with the cars coming toward you for passing.

Would anyone know if there's cell service at this campground?

There is not great cell service at this camp ground. We had Verizon on our visit and had very little connection, intermittently, to check email. Not enough solid, consistent connection to check the internet or social media.

Hi David, my family & I are going up first week of August, 2015. What kind of weather can we expect? Warm? Hot days cool/cold nights? Windy? Summer storms? Also we like to SUP & plan to bring our boards. However we only have hard boards not inflatables. Will they be too comber some? And how long of a walk to the lake from the campsite?
Thanks for your help,
E

It will be warm, hot on the lake. But weather changes quickly up there and there is a chance of summer storms. The campground at Fallen Leaf Lake is pretty tree covered so there is plenty of shade. Nights will be chilly but comfortable (subjective). It is a little bit of a walk from the campground to the lake, but there are areas where you can drive with your boards and get close to lake access. There is a marina at Fallen Leaf and a parking lot with beach access to Tahoe Lake right across the road from Fallen Leaf Lake Road.
