Perani is an impressively versatile arena. My family and I have seen hockey, been to the circus, watched indoor motorcycle racing, and even attended an RV show here.
Better yet, graduating from college, our commencement took place at the Perani.
I would highly recommend checking out their calendar of events and going to any event they host.

Went to see the Flint area's newest hockey team, the Junior A level Flint Firebirds at the now renamed Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center (formerly Perani Arena, formerly IMA Sports Arena) in January. This is still a wonderful arena in which to view a game. Fans walk up ramps--no stairs to enter arena lobby, and then through arena doors to concourse atop single-level seating area. It's easy to walk around entire rink, with ice visible virtually the entire trip. Concession stands feature a fairly wide variety of foods--entrees and snacks, and prices were less than we often see at similar level sports events.
Ticket prices were $12 or more, minus $1 for senior citizens, with the cheapest seats in the end zones. Most of the seats now are padded, fold-up type and there is sufficient width for people to be comfortable, unless they are really extra wide--I mean, like over 350 lbs.
At the Zamboni entrance on the floor was a hot tub, I guess booked in advance for small groups. The tub was occupied for only the 2nd and 3rd periods of our game. The scoreboard is new, with a small video board used to show people in the stands during breaks in the action. With the top row only 13 rows from the ice and no barriers, it is impossible to feel like you have a poor seat anywhere. If you wish, there's standing room where you can look over the 13 rows of seats and even rest your beverage on the dividing wall.
The Firebirds do all they can to involve the kids during the stoppages and the overall atmosphere is much more family oriented than the last pro team had a few years ago. The Firebirds are members of the Ontario Hockey League's top junior league (players are mostly 18-20 years old) this league sometimes sends players directly to the NHL, and often sends them to the minor pro leagues before a big league career.
Biggest negative to us was the steep $10 the city soaks you for parking. I believe parking should never be nearly as expensive as the ticket prices.

Recently attended a hockey game here and was pleasantly surprised, It is an older area but has recently been renovated and is a very comfortable arena with good site lines and excellent acoustics. Some of the new prime seating has yet to be installed but if the renos completed to date are any indication, it will be very well done too. Only drawback was the exaggerated on site parking fee ($10 is too much).

Home to hockey games, builder and camper shows and other large events for the Flint area. The arena is getting old, but it's the largest indoor space in the flint area for special events.
