I had wanted to visit this shrine/museum for quite a while, since the building was purchased by the Knights about 10 years ago. The building is huge, but the museum exhibition space itself is rather small. If you do visit, make sure to visit both the chapel and church, both located on the ground floor. The mosaics are incredible, and need to be seen in-person. I was there last week, and was happy to attend the 3:00 prayers in person.
I was puzzled when I read that the Knights paid $23,000,000 in 2011 for this building, then known as the JPII Cultural Center, but I guess it is better that insurance premiums are going to this Shrine rather than having it slapped onto some sports stadium or something like that. Besides, the building may have cost upwards of $75 million to build in 2001, so based on that, the Knights may have gotten a good deal. I just felt really bad for the original investors, our brothers and sisters in the Archdiocese of Detroit.

Could not have been more pleased with this stunning tribute to JPII! Moving exhibits detailing his life and dedication to our Lord and Mother complete with Relics. Spend some time and immerse yourself in the amazing life, ministry and obedience. Truly remarkable. A Saint whom has intimately touched our lives in so many ways. Grateful for the opportunity

More than we ever imagined. The exhibit down stairs was moving, inspiring and informative. The attention to detail is unlike anything I have ever seen. The mosaic work beautiful. Having the ability to pray for the intercession of Pope Saint John Paul II in the midst of his relic is an experience we won't forget. The staff were so welcoming and helpful. Beautiful experience.

You enter this magnificent structure and you notice the mosaic walls greeting you.The chapel is a nice place to sit and contemplate your thoughts about Saint John Paul II. You will walk through the exhibits and see all facets of his life especially what he endured during WW II. You will need at least 1 hour if not 2 to see everything.

The display of Saint (Pope) John Paul's history was wonderful. I'm glad I went. It was not crowed on a Saturday afternoon so we were able to take our time.

I didn't even know this shrine existed, but found it while planning our visit to the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. It's a pretty short walk (1/2 mi?) from the Basilica. The exhibit of St. JP II's life was quite extensive and detailed. The mosaics in the chapel and church are modern and beautiful. I was especially intrigued by the display of Madonna sculptures from Zimbabwe. The staff was welcoming and knowledgeable. You could easily spend a couple of hours here, even more if you are able to attend Mass.

The place is solemn and peaceful to communicate with God. The shrine is divided in three areas: A Gift of Love Exhibit- showcases the Life and artifacts of St.John Paul II, Redemptor Hominis Church- it hosts daily masses with beautiful mosaics, and the Luminous Mysteries Chapel-houses a 1st class relic of JPII for veneration. Each has a different amazing experience. I am so blessed to visit this shrine.
I also experienced a first hand miracle and answered prayer. After 2 months that I visited the shrine I was able to obtain a first class relic of St. John Paul II. I was so happy to be a custodian of his relic. To God be the glory!

Is there parking at the Shrine on weekdays?

Oh, yes, there is plenty of parking at the Shrine, behind the building. You have to drive down the driveway to behind the building where you will find a large parking lot. Then you walk to the front of the building.
How far and best way to get there from Regan int airport ?

I assume the questioner is talking about public transportation. The Washington METRO subway/elevated system will get you there with one transfer. At Reagan National Airport Station, take a yellow line train headed toward "Greenbelt", "Fort Totten," or "Mount Vernon Square". Get off at Gallery Place Station and take an escalator up to the red line trains headed toward Glenmont. Take a train toward "Silver Spring" or "Glenmont." Get off at Brookland/Catholic University Station.
After you exit through the turnstiles, walk to the left toward the University. At street level, walk straight across the University campus about 1,000 yards, up a steep hill at first, but then on level ground with a plain view of the Basilica.
