Amazing beach stroll that is less cold and windy than the San Francisco’ Pacific Ocean. The area is small, but great to catch some fresh air. If you walk just two blocks out, it instantly becomes a hot and sunny pavement. Therefore, travel comfortably

We went to Crown Memorial State Beach in Alameda. There is a nice beach area, green grass area, and places to walk.

I enjoyed a very long walk along the beach on a very sunny day and enjoyed the spectacular views of the Bay, San Francisco, and the Peninsula. Just a little traffic along the way.

They have a beach, but the bay water is cold and it's an urban setting. It's an okay place to play in the sand or dip your toes in the water, but there are other attractions. They have a fair amount of open space with picnic tables and restrooms. And there's a nice walking path with views of the Bay and SF.
You could also add to your day by walking a few blocks inland to various bars and restaurants.
As others have noted, weather is somewhat variable. Though even if it's foggy in the AM, there's often hope for a few hours of afternoon sunshine.

This is a really nice long sandy beach with lots of places to park for free. Public washrooms available at multiple spots along the beach. Some wind but warmer then San Francisco as it’s more sheltered. Nice view of the city skyline.

We had an hour to kill in Alameda and, it being a nice sunny day, decided to check out this State Beach. The parking here is somewhat odd (at least over by the dog run in Washington Park where we left our vehicle) - some spaces are free while others are pay, so if you get here fairly early or during a quiet time of the day or week (like we did), you can park for nothing.
We walked for about an hour along the trail that runs along the waterfront. It is a great place to see the water, look at the San Francisco skyline, and, of course, do some people watching.
While walking around, we came across a small obelisk memorial along with a flagpole sitting out in a field setback from the beachfront. The memorial bore a cryptic inscription honoring some "students" who'd lost their lives during the 1941-45 war. We did some digging and found that these students belonged to the U.S. Maritime Service Officer Training School that operated on this site from 1943 to 1954. Curiously, the memorial also honors "Blackie" - a dog that served as the school's mascot. The school was itself built on the site of an amusement park that operated here from 1917 to 1939. Nothing of the amusement park remains, and all that is left of the school is this little memorial which we still find very curious.
Near this monument is the Crab Cove Visitor Center. Apparently this offers some displays, including a small aquarium, that describe the local marine and seashore life. We didn't even know this was here, so can't report if this is worth visiting, but it certainly sounds interesting and we'll have to stop on our next visit if it's open.

You have to get to Crown Beach reeeeally early to secure a picnic table for your family and friends. It can be very windy and chilly here but it is such a delightful place full of grass, trees, access to the beach and on clear days, wonderful views of San Francisco. Great for a stroll as well to detox from a hectic everyday life. A beach this close to town is such a treasure.

picnic on the beach across from the shopping center. Plenty of space for adults & kids. Surf shack at the far end rents equipment and lessons for wind surfing and other beach/water sports

A good place to go on a rare hot day. This is a very pretty beach on the Bay right on the edge of this very nice city.

We decided to have some beach time with my great nephew and this was the closest beach to get to without having to deal with traffic. Overall not too bad, paid parking but not too expensive.
The beach area was clean and the crowds weren't too bad. We set up our wind tent and saw people either wind surfing, kite surfing or just playing around. No one too rowdy. The weather was clear enough that we could see the San Francisco skyline.
The only downside would be, no food vendors. Best to pack your food if you are going to spend some time there. Did see some people doing a cook out, but again it is bringing your food.
Also it can get windy there, so the wind tent came in handy and if you are use to warm water (like south Florida/gulf coast) you will not find it here.
Overall we definitely had a nice beach day.
