Fez is an interesting city that needs time to be explored.
I did enjoy the views, food and the weather.
I stayed at Verus Riad, it is nice and clean, the stuff are super friendly.

Beautiful tiling covers the walls and floor of the inner courtyard. Small apartments with arched ceilings and fretted windows overlook the courtyard from the top floor. The students would reside in these rooms while they studied. We also ascended to the top level, which had breathtaking views of the entire property.

This Madrasa is located inside the great Medina of Fes and, without a good local guide, finding it would be practically impossible!
In the eyes of a Westerner there does not seem to be much difference between this Madrasah and those you can visit on a Moroccan tour.
Beautiful large wooden doors, incredible columns and finely chiseled stone arches, beautiful mosaics and large chandeliers.
But what distinguishes it from other Madrasahs is the fact that you can still visit the small cells where Koranic students lived and studied. Interessante!

The Al-Attarine Madrasa is a nice oasis within the chaos of the median. It has beautiful tiled floors and walls, archways and white stucco. The upper floors have nice carved wooden window frames with windows overlooking the courtyard. It is good to visit with a knowledgeable local guide to understand better the features.

This Madrasa is a small historical site with many intricately designed architecture. A guide will help you get through it quickly but is not necessary because of the size. For me, the buildings did not have the wow factor from what i have seen in other cities. Noneltehwas if you are avoiding the crowds then there is the place to visit.

With the "2 parts" (the lower one & the upper one) to visit inside this "historical madrasa" (maybe not in itself being yes one among a number of madrasas in the Fes Medina but definitely because of its location "very close to" the Kairaouine Mosque & Madrasa which yes is the "most important" of all madrasas in this medina), it was right at the start after going through the entrance where I was "fairly impressed" by the "inner courtyard" (the lower part of the Madrasa) which despite its quite-limited space is really "one of beauty" decorated on all four sides with colorful tiles & intricate carvings (and where at the far end is a room with a sizeable chandelier & some stained-glass windows), and yes also "kind of interesting" (in a way getting a sense of the daily life of the scholars at the Madrasa in the old days) are about two "upper levels" (the upper part of the Madrasa) with tiny rooms along narrow hallways and where each tiny room is also equipped with like a mini-opening for receiving letters & such (and with yes also some "Medina views" around including that of the courtyard of Kairaouine nearby).
On a Friday with "most shops closed", I entered the Medina from the Bab Rcif on the "south side" with also like a "market square" just inside that big gate kind of deserted on this day (but which I found "quite lively" the following day as was the case for all of the "many narrow alleys" lined with plenty of small shops inside the Medina); and yes the visit here (with also a brief glimpse of the courtyard of Kairaouine from right outside immediately after coming out of this madrasa) was followed by that to the Chouara Tannery (with its many "liquid-full tubs" seen from the terrace above some establishment which also has "2 shops" of leather products at like above & below within its premises). And yes, after getting back outside the Medina, it was at the Marinid Tombs after a taxi ride (with really just "few remains" of those tombs left to see but yes with a pretty great "all-around scenery" with the city below & the mountains around) followed by the last stop of the day at the Jardin Jnane Sybil after coming downhill by the same taxi (not a big one but somewhat of a "stately garden" I would say with a beautiful "middle aisle" & a sizeable pond at the far end).

If you have to visit just one madrasa in Fes, go for this one. Smaller that Bou Inania, less visited than this one (which means quiter) and with more beautiful tiles and plasterwork. You have access to the students' cells on upper floors, from where you can catch glimpes of streets bellow and, partially, the views of the rooftops and central court of Kairaouine mosque.

The Al Attarine Madrasa is a 14th century school for Islamic studies in the heart of madina, Fes. It was used to house students who came from outside the city. It's a magnificent structure, built with multicolored mosaic tiles, marble, wood, carved ceramic tile. Every bit of the structure is just beautiful, one can spend hours appreciating them. It's the most beautiful structure in Fes.

It would be a shame to visit the medina without passing through this madrassa. The course is impressive.
Afterwards, 20 dirham per adult, it’s up to everyone.

This former Koran school offers lots of great stucco work and wood carvings in the Andalusian style. One of the most beautiful buildings in the Fes medina and perhaps the most beautiful Koranic school in all of Morocco.

Hola!
