‪Michel et Ilham sont des passionnés qui savent transmettre le goût des saveurs et le pouvoir des épices. Ils vous accueillent de manière chaleureuse et à la fois professionnelle. Ils proposent un atelier très pédagogique et instructif. On passe, en leur compagnie, un très agréable moment.‬

‪Viel gelernt und sehr gut gespeist in toller Atmosphäre‬

‪Wir hatten aufgrund des Ausbruchs der Corona Pandemie das Glück den Kochkurs mit Michel und seiner Frau zu zweit zu genießen. Wir hatten eine großartige Zeit und haben die Rezepte bereits zu hause nachgekocht. Tolles Ambiente mit einem herrlichen Garten vor der Tür. Wirklich ein Erlebnis.‬

‪The Highlight of our Trip!‬

‪My husband and I took a cooking course at Faim d'Epices in mid-February 2020 and it was hands down the highlight of our 3-day holiday in Marrakech. We were promptly picked up at a designated pickup location close to our riad, and were driven westwards to a charming farmhouse outside of the city. There, we were greeted by Michel (the owner) and Ilham (the chef), along with a glass of Moroccan tea and homemade meringues.

From there, we were introduced to various spices in an entertaining, blindfolded spice test, and learned about Moroccan essentials such as argan oil, preserved lemons, and much more. Then Ilham took over and she gave us a step-by-step instruction on how to cook our own tagine, Moroccan bread, various salads, and dessert. Along the way, we were able to snack on tasty treats and juice. At the very end, we all sat around a big spread of our day's hard work, and enjoyed lunch with pleasant company.

There were 7 other students aside from me and my husband; each couple/group had their own work station, so there was plenty of elbow room. There was one student who did not know how to cook at all, and yet he was also able to follow along. So whether you're a kitchen amateur or not, if you have an interest in learning the secrets of Moroccan cuisine, this class is the perfect introduction.

‪A brilliant day with good company‬

‪Thank you Michel and Ilham for a great day. Very fun and knowledgable couple. Covered a lot of skills and dishes and made probably the best food we had in Morocco. All done in a relaxed farmhouse setting. I highly recommend this course to anyone visiting Marrakesh.‬

‪Il vous faut absolument aller aux ateliers faim d’épices avec Michel et Ilham. Ils sont professionnels, adorables, avenants, bienveillants et l’atelier épices et le cours de cuisine sont tout simplement exquis. Le cadre est sublime et propice à la détente . Michel vient vous chercher et vous redépose à votre hôtel ou au spa si vous choisissez la formule cuisine et spa. C’est magique. J’ai adoré et je recommence au prochain séjour . Je conseille à tous de prendre la formule cuisine et détente au Mythic Oriental Spa de Marrackech.

‪Een ontzettend leuke en complete en goed verzorgde dag gehad op de boerderij. In alle rust van buiten de stad gezien hoe brood gemaakt wordt en zelf aan de slag gegaan met couscous, salades en Marokkaanse crepes. Duidelijke uitleg en relaxte sfeer. De kruiden workshop is een goede en leerzame invulling van de tijd dat je even moet wachten voordat je verder kunt. Daarna in de tuin in alle rust de zelfgekookte maaltijd eten.‬

‪Great time with two lovely hosts‬

‪My wife and I took this class today and had a really great time!

The location itself is outside the city, which after a few days of the craziness that can be Marrakech was a wonderful relaxing change of pace. The co-owner Michel picked us up in the morning with clear instruction sent in advance where to meet (as our Riad was in the middle of the Medina and impossible to get to by car), and we had a pleasant time chatting with him as we drove around the city picking up the other participants. Indeed he and his wife are both genuinely kind and entertaining hosts, and made the course a lot of fun.

Regarding the course itself, it is a mix of demonstrations and hands-on-experience. Everybody has their own station, and prepares their own bread (after a demo) and a tagine, which varies based on the day of the week - our was chicken with olives and preserved lemon. Importantly for us they have no problems at all catering to vegetarians (we just let them know at the time of booking). You also get to prepare together as a group a couple of Morrocan salads (for us it was a classic tomato/cucmber cold salad, a cooked eggplant salad, and a sweet lettuce and orange salad). We also made a spicy roasted green pepper dip as an added extra that was honestly the best thing we ate on our whole trip. But of course the rest of the food was delicious, too!

There was also a blind spice sniffing, which I personally enjoyed, and gave a lot of interesting information on commonly used local spices.

What I really appreciated was that the course was both accessible and entertaining to me as a cooking beginner, but also interesting to those with a few more skills (e.g. for my wife), so that everyone can learn some new things.

There is also a little shop where you can buy the spices (including some that might otherwise be tough to get in good quality, e.g. argan oil and orange essence) as well as a few other items like tagines needed to recapitulate the experience at home, with very reasonable prices.

Overall, for us the experience was relaxing, fun, informative, and tasty - everything we were looking for.‬

‪Great Time at Faim d'Epices!‬

‪We had a terrific time with Michel and Ilhame during our cooking class! It was great to learn how to cook a few of the dishes we had tasted during our 10 days in Morocco. Michel was a funny and lively host, who conducted a blind smell test of a variety of spices used in Moroccan food. Ilhame was very knowledgeable of Moroccan cuisine and helped us to create a wide array of tasty salads, tagine, and breads. Their facility is open, airy, and very inviting. The entire morning and afternoon was very enjoyable and eating our meal outside among the olive/orange/lemon trees was a delight. It was one of the highlights of our trip and a great way to end a fantastic time!‬
