The guides and staff were very professional and accommodating. They were also so kind to these beautiful creatures. It was so great to get up close to them and also watch them interact together. Our walk with the Elephants was definitely a highlight of our trip. If I had something to complain about it would be that it isn't long enough. I could have sat with these elephants all day. The photographers did a great job capturing this unique activity through photos and a video. Thank you so much for this wonderful experience. I would highly recommend it!!!

Absolutely amazing experience. Short drive by guide where we were let off in the bush. Less than 100 ft and we were next to Coco, the Matriarch and her friends. We learned how to greet her via touching her knee and ears and then trunk. Her eyes were so soft and she was huge. Then we walked with them and eventually fed them their afternoon biscuits of vitamins/minerals. The staff was professional and informative. This was one of the top 3 animal adventures in my life time (seeing Mtn Gorillas in Rawanda, diving with a Dolphin in Cabo, and this). I could have stayed all day. OUTSTANDING

I love elephants so the chance to meet the elephants and spend time with them was one of the highlights of my trip. We were picked up at the restaurant where we had lunch and taken out to the Sanctuary. We were given a safety briefing before setting out to meet the elephants. Luckily the elephants were nearby so we didn't have to spend much time getting to them. We were introduced to each elephant and given a bit of their story. The staff with them was very knowledgeable and good at passing that knowledge along. We had the opportunity to take lots of pictures of the elephants and of us with the elephants - a truly amazing thing to be so close to these wonderful animals. After spending some time walking with them the elephants headed over to the feeding spot because they knew they would get treats. Each elephant had a different style of getting the treats which was quite fun. Jock, the big bull, used his trunk like a vacuum cleaner and sucked the pellets right off your hand. One of the ladies liked to have the pellets poured down her trunk. It was fun to see their personalities come out.
After our visit with the elephants we headed back to the main area for drinks and snacks. We got to spend a good amount of time with the ellies, but I would have gladly spent all day with them. The lodge has a gift shop if you want to buy anything with the proceeds supporting the Sanctuary. The only part of the visit I didn't enjoy was the somewhat hard sell to buy a very expensive copy of the pictures they took during our visit. I opted instead to buy a small piece of art that had been made by one of the elephants - Emily had ink put on the bottom of one foot and then stepped on a piece of paper to leave her footprint. That print is much more meaningful to me than the extra pictures would be.
We had a lovely time with the elephants and I highly recommend the experience. We will visit again when we come back to Vic Falls.

We did the breakfast tour and loved it. These elephants are so gentle and tolerant of people touching them. Walking with these majestic beasts seemed surreal. The staff takes great care of them and makes sure you have a memorable experience.

We visited the Elephant Sanctuary in March 2022. The experience was amazing. The elephants magnificent. The staff at the sanctuary were very knowledgeable, kind and safety conscious. My only complaint is with management. We were booked/paid for the Elephant Encounter. Due to a mix up in picking us up that morning, we missed the Elephant Encounter and instead were placed in the Elephant Experience by default. I am still waiting on my partial refund and have had no correspondence from management in nearly three weeks now. I am hoping our experience with management is the exception and not the rule. If you are looking for an exceptional experience with meeting elephants and compassionate and knowledgeable keepers, I would highly recommend Wild Horizons.

Loved the interaction with the elephants. So fun to touch them, and realize they don't feel as you think they do when seeing them at a distance. But feeding them was the best: whether as a vacuum, from the top or throwing it into their mouths. Each had a different preference in terms of how to be fed. Our only disappointment was not seeing a baby, as they rotate the herds and the day we could attend was not the day for the babies. Oh well, next time. And the staff were so friendly-and so so knowledgeable. If you love elephants in the wild, you should definitely visit the sanctuary.

We booked this tour as a bit of a fill in day and while majority of it was fantastic, there were some parts that weren't so great
Picked up on time, not that long of a drive until we arrived. Drinks when we arrived - service and great and friendly
Out onto the jeep to take us to the elephants. Had a ranger with a rifle, although not sure how much for show this is as we had just finished a 2 week safari and they didn't have a rifle with them
Found the elephants where we walked through to bush to catch up with them. They are very protective of you to ensure that you are safe at all times and try and position the elephants so that you can get pictures
We took turns having our pictures taken beside the elephants and it was all structured and managed very well - so total credit to them making it seamless and easy
Then we got to hand feed the elephants after a demonstration, and great that we could keep doing it until the food ran out. They had clothes for us to wash our hands afterwards which was most appreciated
When we were walking with the elephants however, unlike some of the other places we had visited, it felt like they were just there for us and to make a profit out of them. Maybe they weren't, but whilst we were initially excited to do the tour, afterwards we felt maybe it wasn't the right thing to do
After the tour, they take you make for more drinks (all included - beer and soft drink as well!) and then bundle you into a room to show you the video that was made as part of the tour and photos, both available to purchase. We did purchase the DVD which was delivered to our hotel later that night, but when we got home and played it the quality of it was horrific - certainly didn't look like the flashy version that we were showed. Was also labelled wrong and not what our tour was.
Definite waste of money and suggest take enough of your own photos and don't bother with their one
Also, Nice gift shop available with lots of different elephant stuff

The Elephant sanctuary is a wonderful place to visit exceptional activity to do the team is very professional and helpful very knowledgeable they have a good relations and interaction with the giants
The briefing very informative as well as safety briefing
The short drive into the bush heading for the giants and starting to walk to meet the giants awesome l
Loved every move the walks with elephants touch them for real feeding them interesting l had never dreamt touching an elephant this is great exciting adventure integrates well Jumbo the male giant and Cocco the female lovely baby surprise
Feeding time adventurous speaking direct to the giants what a great moment
Activity to do in vicfalls will ever recommend friends and relatives wouldn’t mind to spent the whole day

When we participated in the Wild Elephant encounter it was at the beginning of our trip so we had no idea what to expect. From the moment we arrived we were treated as royalty with welcome drinks and a tour of the sanctuary. We climbed into the Jeep, started driving out to the to find the elephants and we were treated to a mini game drive as we passed birds and a beautiful Kudu just off the road. Having the opportunity to meet, touch, wall with and feed the elephants was by far a highlight of our trip. The guide, handlers and videographer were very professional. We have shared our video with several family and friends and they are always amazed. Make sure you go here when you are in Victoria Falls. It was awesome!

Amazing,amazing, amazing. Elephants are my favorite animals and I could not wait for the encounter. It was better than I imagined. The staff that walks with you is very knowledgeable of the animals and can tell they have a relationship with the animals. The animals are beautiful and very well cared for. They drive you out to the bush where you walk to where the elephants are. When you get their they will tell you about each elephant, get to pet them and take pictures with them, go for a short walk with them and then feed them.
I would have liked the interaction to be longer but also could have spent all day just walking with them and watching them in their natural habitat.

I suggest asking your hotel or tour operator for assistance. That is how we learned about it and made our reservations with our tour director at Overseas Adventure Travel.

as it was part of a package individual pricing is unavailable. However there were two rides: we left our hotel Zambezi river Lodge at six am and the second ride is in the afternoon at three

We are at the Kingdom at Victoria Falls hotel on the Zimbabwe side. Would we be picked up there? Also, the overview is just three pictures, it doesn't actually provide an overview...what's the start/end time? What is the experience (Described)

There are 2 rides: 6 am (from the hotel) and 3pm. The former finished around 10am and I guess the latter around 6pm

When you book with Wild Horizons they will send someone to pick you up and take you to the safari lodge and return you after the ride.Most hotels arrange transport from whichever airport you arrive at check with your tour provider.

There has been a lot of concerning news about the mistreatment of elephants trained for rides. How can I find out about the treatment of the elephants at Wild Horizons?

I don't know how to ascertain that, but my feeling was that they were well cared for. Our guide, Matthias, told us the daily care of elephants, each guide works with a specific elephant, and if the seem" off" they don't have them ride.
You feed them, pet them, and as an animal lover, I had that " gut" feeling they were safe and loved!

Yes VFRL will drive you to the pick up point and back after 2-3 hours. Costs are high - but it's an elephant sanctuary - that's what you pay for.
