The Grand Mosque is worth a visit. Currently the mosque is not in use internally as renovations are underway. But the building is nice. Unfortunately the poorly maintained areas around the mosque and all of the air on units on the outside detract from what would be a lovely building. Not especially large, but a Khartoum landmark nonetheless.

Мечеть в старом городе, рядом много магазинов. Очень грязно вокруг. Сама мечеть загражденна так, что тяжело красиво сфотографировать

Nice mosque to look at from the outside...women weren't allowed in, well we weren't. we were told 'men only'. Nice architecture and looks great from the outside!

Zamanın bilim ve irfan yuvası. Şimdi ise bakımsızlık nedeniyle biraz yıpranmış. Çevresinin restore edilmesi ile daha farklı bir çehreye bürünebilir.

Actually al Kabir 'the Great' is not that large in size compared to the 19th century mosques in Cairo or even the older ones in Isfahan. It makes a rather modest impression with two Egyptian style minarets and a hall of some 10m in height in brownish colors. Perhaps this is the reason I liked this mosque.
Inside the lowered lamps create a more intimate atmosphere. The believers make a relaxed, but sincere impression. Most come to pray, others to be taught. Some to take a nap. The interior lacks a lot of decoration and has been kept simple. Some of the columns have not even been plastered and show the original red bricks of which they are made.
Also worth visiting in the evening when the minarets are brightly illuminated and there are spot lights on the mosque's walls.

unique characteristics like its geometric and interlace patterned ornaments, thi mosque does draw some influence from Persian, Roman, Byzantine Chinese and Indian architecture - take a closer look!

The mosque was under rehabilitation abut still you can enjoy the architecture and the worshiping atmosphere. It is in the heart of the town so a visit is kinda must.

I visited this Masjid and said my prayer.
The construction of this mosque is nice, it is decorated nicely. The masjid is seen from all the direction almost similar. a very big masjid where thousands of people can pray together.

Thinking Khartoum does not offer much other than River Nile, Al Kabir may be the first attraction spot. Hosting 4 different schools of Islam, it is an interesting experience seeing those people praying at different places and all the prayer times, mosque is very crowded.
