This is a fabulous experience that everyone should consider doing when visiting Bangkok. We’d love to do it again!

10 stars out of 5!!! Excellent cooking class with Poo, the market was such a fun experience to see how the locals live and purchase their food for the day. Do not come here with food in your belly, I didn’t and was well glad such excellent, tasty food. Unlimited water provided also and the staff who help out are so friendly too

If you're in search of an exceptional and authentic Thai cooking experience, I highly recommend this class. The day begins with a visit to a wet market where you learn about market life and where the all the ingredients come from. The staff is incredibly friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable, creating a very warm and welcoming experience. Poo, the chef, is very experienced and extremely sweet! The food we cooked was simply delicious and easy to recreate at home (with the right ingredients). This class can definitely be taken by novice or experienced cooks. So glad we chose this class!

This was the best Thai cooking experience I have had! We really enjoyed visiting the market where everything was explained to us and we were able to buy what was needed for the dishes we were about to prepare.
We are regular visitors to Bangkok and we will visit the market on our next visit to buy ingredients so that we can prepare and cook some of Poo’s recipes.
We were also very impressed with everything she is doing to help her local community.
Thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable and informative morning.

Visiting Bangkok’s fresh food market with a guide that explains you the use of the products in Thai cuisine was a great experience. The cooking class combined with the personal story of Poo ‘s project makes it an experience you do not forget. We cooked a menu of 3 dishes and got a Thai fruit masterclass and a delicious desert. Poo and team were very helpful, answered all questions, and gave us a wonderful morning. Thanks.

A wonderful half-day which we all enjoyed (our group's ages ranged from 16 to 63). An excellent tour of the market which allowed us an understanding of the local area, followed by an enjoyable few hours of cooking (and eating!). Khun Poo and her team were so kind, funny and professional - we had such a great time!

Cooking with Poo is a fantastic experience.
Poo and her team are amazing hosts - warm, funny, knowledgeable.
The tour of Klong Toei market is a fascinating assault on the senses, and the food you learn to make is delicious, fresh and plentiful.
What Poo and her team do for their community is incredible. The profits from your course support local families and businesses, and any leftover food is donated to locals too.
Would highly recommend!

Fantastic cooking class and market tour! All the ingredients and techniques were diligently explained with fun and humour. Lots of variations for folks with dietary restriction or those who can't buy the ingredients back home.

Cooking with Poo is a half day of a high quality Thailand experience. With convenient transportation, a real walk through a real wet market, cooking in a common class neighborhood, popular Thai dishes, a variety of local fruits, and a positive host; cooking with Poo was well worth a half day in my very limited time in Bangkok. Poo is a sweet and positive person who is a great host.
Poo first meets you at the Emporium Suites, a very easy meet up off the Phom Phrong BTS station and takes you in a van for an optional visit to the wet market. Although optional, I found this to be almost half the experience of being in the noise and chaos of a Thai wet market and getting to purchase things for the days cooking.
The van picks everyone back up and goes to the local neighborhood where Poo herself grew up. As we walked through the side alleys and draining canals, local neighbors would great us with sincere "sawatdee ka/krap". I was a little surprised at the level of attention though, but I connected it later to Poo's business paying back to the community through education (effectively scholarships) providing better opportunity for the next generation. So I think the response from the community is grattitude.
We reached a house that Poo purchased and remodelled for the purpose of the cooking class. The main ktichen is still there and Poo's husband and daughter preprep the food (wash the veggies/meat) as well as keep up on washing the cook ware as the class proceeds. There are 6 burners allowing 6 people to cook simultaneously. Poo talks about the dishes, demonstrates making chilipaste, demonstrates making each dish, and then everyone gets to replicate it for themselves. Even better, each individual is encouraged to custom talor the dish to their liking. I'm allergic to peanuts so I avoided that, another didn't want so much spice, another not so much lime juice, etc.
I was proud of myself making dishes that was almost on par with Thai restaurants I'd tried, including those in Thailand. A key factor is the fresh local ingredients, and knowing the right proportions. Because we were making 3 dishes, plus mango sticky rice dessert and fruit, this was easily a very filling experience for me (I'm a 195 lbs male). Poo then provides you with print out of the recipes, and optional purchase of tshirts and recipe books are available.
So glad I did this. Well worth the time. And it was fun!

Hi, has anyone taken children to this cooking class?
Derek P

Children are most certainly welcome so long as a guardian is present. They should enjoy the class if they are able to manage basic cooking utensils or helped to do so. As a general rule children aged 6 and above have been able to participate and enjoy the class and tour. Children under 6 may have a hard time with some of the fine motor skills and may find parts of the tour "scary" (i.e. dead fish, slices of meat, live animals, etc.). But of course it will depend on the child's own level of development. Thanks for asking!

Is the cooking class air conditioned? I'm looking to travel there soon, and I realize it's VERY hot this time of year.

Hi! Our van and cooking school are both air conditioned. There are some parts of the tour that require walking around, namely the walking tour of the market as well as a short walk to the cooking school from the main road. We have rarely had complaints about the temperature in the school itself. Hope that helps

May I ask if a week day or weekend is a better choice to take the cooking class? The reason is that We would like to see a bustling market trip.

Thanks for your question. I'm sure no matter which day you choose you will not be disappointed with the market portion of our tour. There is very little difference from day to day. Enjoy!

Hi
I was wondering what the maximum number of people you have on the course?
Thanks

Thanks for your interest.
We open the class for 12 participants to join at one time, this is in consideration of transportation, staff-student ratio, and facility space/equipment.
In the case of a private class booking, this may be negotiated.
Peace,
DEREK
