‪Enter the museum and behold: 2 floors packed with specimens and curiosities that you’ll never see anywhere else in the world. This museum has something for everyone: six+ toed chicken feet, the celebration of scientist’s life work, a mosquito embroidered shirt, art, elephant dung, poetry, and rocks galore. The museum also chronicles Dr Rampa and Manop’s study and categorization of Thailand’s 450 individual mosquito species and their impact to human health. However, mosquitos are just a fraction of what you’ll discover inside this magnificent menagerie and homage to the natural world. Well worth the entry fee for an hour to observe this amazing, mosquito-power couple’s collection. ‬

‪This museum IS open in the location indicated, it just appears closed unless you stand around waiting at the locked gate long enough for the lady working there to be bothered to show up. She's not very friendly.

As for the exhibit, I don't get the lavish praise from a lot of other reviewers. If you you've ever been to a museum before, you gotta say this one is pretty small. Sure, 200 baht each is not a lot of money but, for what you're getting, it's not a bargain.

I guess it may be worth a visit when you're exploring the Nimman area (which you should) - if they deign to let you in. ‬

‪I’ve lived in the Nimman area for more than four years, and the museum has never been open at this location. They’ve moved out to the Samoeng Loop, a few kms out of Mae Rim, and it’s certainly worth a visit that there, if you have transport.‬

‪My brother and I really enjoyed this hole in the wall museum. We had the run of the place and it has a lot of great mounted insects from Thailand and around the world. The variety is impressive. Great place to spend some time wondering at the variety of our multi-legged cousins.‬

‪We passed by this place a few times but could not find an in trance. Maybe it was closed, not sure. Too bad, we were curious. On a positive note, it is in the Nimman area which is nice to walk around. It is filled with cafe and restaurants of a sort of upscale millennial nature‬

‪THIS museum is a Thai couple's incredible labour of love spanning fifty years.
Their museum message is that they serve as a "house of reminders" displaying the precious gifts of nature and expressions of infinite beauty and wonder, caring for thousands of insects, butterflies, seashells, fossils, stones and many amazing rarities from Thailand and other countries.
We had to ring a bell when we arrived to be let in, paying the 200 baht entry fee to walk into a museum experience unlike any I have ever had.
Founder Manop Rattanarithikul worked with American scientists in the 1950s and it might be said that the museum grew out of he and his wife Rampa's love affair with mosquitoes which the Americans were conducting malarial studies on.
Whatever the reason, Manop became the first Thai expert on mosquitoes and Rampa went on to become one of the leading medical entomologists in the world.
Impressive stuff and so are the exhibits in the museum which offers everything from giant wasp nests to fossil fish and countless butterflies.
So much is packed into two small floors of exhibits that you have to go slowly in case you miss something there are so many things to see.
Not for the squeamish are some black and white photographs of various medical conditions which made you realise just how important early malarial work was.
By the time we walked out more than an hour later I felt I had a much better grasp of this aspect of the natural world. I was also determined not to forget to put on my DEET that night to keep mosquitoes at bay when I went out! Fascinating place which is well worth a visit.‬
