‪Great tour, but overpriced ...‬

‪We went on a wonderful evening tour. Only 3 in our group, and the guide was friendly and informative. We visited a number of street stalls, and tried a variety of different foods. So much that we were too full to try much of the delicious beef barbecue at the end! We had a great evening, visiting parts of Phnom Penh we would not have thought to go. 5 stars for the tour itself!! Our concern was the cost. U$65?? We are from Australia so it worked out to around A$95 for each of us. We paid U$35 for similar tour in Ho Chi Minh (where we were collected from our hotel, not expected to meet at a designated spot.) Different country of course, but Cambodia is generally cheaper than Vietnam. Not sure what we were expecting, but certainly a little more ‘value for money’. I doubt our actual food/drink consumption was more than U$5 each (and that’s being generous!) .. and we wonder how much the guide is paid by the western owners of the company? Huge profits being made here! Let’s hope more Cambodians start running their own businesses so they can reap the profits themselves - and offer tours at more competitive/reasonable prices! ‬

Thanks for your review, and we’re glad to hear that you thought it was a wonderful tour, got to try a wide variety of foods at places you wouldn’t have found otherwise, and had so much to eat that you were full by the last stop. We’re sorry, though, that you didn’t think the tour with Vanarith was worth the price. It’s a myth that Cambodia is cheaper than Vietnam, particularly when it comes to food, and I can assure you that the food and other tour expenses are nowhere near as cheap as you seem to think they are. We also notice that you were dissatisfied with your hotel in Phnom Penh and thought you didn’t get much for what you paid — maybe the issue is that your expectations for how much things should cost in Cambodia are outdated. If saving money is a priority, there are certainly cheaper food tours you can choose. We have spent years researching the best places to eat in Cambodia and building deep relationships with local food producers and vendors, and travelers who value a more intimate and authentic experience seem to appreciate it. Here are some quotes from our other TripAdvisor reviews for our Phnom Penh tours: “you definitely get value for money on this tour - the food stops are endless and you get to try so many dishes!” “This was invaluable and one of the best tours We have been on!! It was also great value for money...we had five different stops and must of tried over 30 different dishes / foods. I would highly recommend this tour, it was the best thing we did in Phnom Penh.” “Had a fantastic time on the food tour. Was a little bit unsure as the price seemed expensive in the context of Cambodia but it was definitely worth it.” “It’s absolutely worth the price, food is wonderful and plentiful, the numbers are small, the other people joining the tour were like minded and [our guide] was wonderful.”

‪Vanarith is an excellent tour guide, you got pretty much a good combo with the food tours. Good conversation, cultural knowledge, and of course a good traditional food.

‪Great Tour; Great Guide; Highly recommend...‬

‪We did their Siem Reap Tour as well but the Guides were much better in Phnom Penh and were local - Ask for Vanarit; he was wonderful with a lot of in depth knowledge and very very good English - probably the best Tourist contact we have come across...

The food was a great range covered - some daring adventure if you want it - but tailored to where you want to go for your tastes... The Guide knew a lot of the background and the history and the people in the area... ‬

‪Vanarith won't let you down!‬

‪Vanarith is extremely hospitable and conscientious of every traveler he has on his tour. He made sure all of us were satisfied. The different vendors and restaurants we visited truly captured the culinary diversity and history of Cambodia, plus the food was tasty!! Highly recommend.‬

‪Amazing food tour around the markets of Phnom Penh‬

‪Phnom Penh Food Tours organised a great tour around Phnom Penh. I had been living in the city for 5 months but our guide, Vanarith, provided so many new interesting insights into local life and local eateries. Definitely recommend this tour!‬

‪I had a great time on the tour. As well as diving into the local food you also get an extremely engaging host who is clearly passionate about the role, speaks excellent English, and has very thoughtful opinions Cambodia in general. I learned a lot, ate well, and would definitely recommend this. ‬

‪The evening tour with Vanarith was a highlight of our trip. He is extremely passionate about food and his local culture and we were fortunate enough to be able to experience the city with him as a guide. A great selection of food stops - none of which we would have found without his guidance - would highly recommend!!‬
