Located behind the Beatle Square Monument just across Peace Avenue directly in front of The State Department Store sit a statue to Balingiin Tserendorj, the first Prime Minister of The Peoples Republic of Mongolia from 1924 - 1928. The Tserendorj sculpture was designed by Architect B. Dambiinyam, and was unveiled in 1998. Prime Minister Tserendorj had a very interesting career and did much to establish independence for Mongolia. The statue does not do him justice. It is a white larger than life statue of a deceased grumpy looking old politician sitting in a chair facing the Mongolian Circus at the end of the street. There is nothing appealing about this particular statue. A metal placard in Mongolian and English tells a little about this individual. However the placard has been damaged by weather over the years and is difficult to read. Overall not a very impressive statue compared to others located throughout Ulaanbaatar. Would not recommend a special trip to visit this site. However if you are in the neighborhood, a quick 5 minute look might be sufficient.

There is a fountain where children enjoy to play with water during hot summer days. With laughter of happy kids everyone feel happiness. There are nice souvenir shops, cafes and restaurants in this street.

I saw the statue go from design to installation, so I offer a biased view of the piece.
It was designed by the same architect who designed the Ikh Delguur, B. Dambiinyam. His design was much more engaging than the somewhat severe-looking final version presented by the sculptor. The sculpture represents a most fascinating Mongolian leader who lived and worked during an immensely challenging time in Mongolia's history. Perhaps it would be more meaningful to read about the man and the history. A good place to start is the Wikipedia page for Balingiin Tserendorj.

Finding this statue was by total chance and we came across it while we were shopping and walking around. The location is not very centrally located.

Prime Minister Tserendorj was 6th PM of Mongolia.
He was named 'Diligent Minister' in the History. If you like History of Mongolia or like Statues you could stop by and see the Art Work.

As such, not to write home about except that it is a quick photo stop if it is on the way. Not worth taking a special trip, though

He looks really fierce! He was the first PM of an independent Mongolia in the 1920s, but when you see his portrait in the National History Museum he looks much more benign. Actually, just behind him is the other reason for visiting. This is `Beatles Square' and there is a monument to them. You can recognise John, Paul and George, but Ringo's statue is definitely dodgy.

Prime minister Tsersendorj sits alone facing the Circus. At his back is a mural dedicated to the Beatles crossing Abbey Road.
The street which bears the name of Mongolia's first prime minister links the State Department Store and the Circus. In summer it is one of the city's great outdoor venues, festooned with fountains and evenly laid pavement. It is popular with children and young adults on summer evenings.
In winter the pavement is covered with ice, and tends to be treacherous for pedestrians.
But getting back to Mr. Tserendorj's statue, it is a smallish Buddha-like figure, worth a look, but not worth a special trip.
Tserendorj Street is lined with small restaurants, most of which are good, and some of the best cashmere, camel and yak fiber stores in the city.
