If you cross Peace Avenue in front of the Central Post Office and head south on Chinggis Khan Avenue one will eventually pass in front of Tsedenbal Square This park is directly in front of the National Drama Academic Theater (an imposing red and white building), the Grand Khan Irish Pub and the beginning of Seoul Street, the liveliest part of town. Located in the center of the park is a larger than life bronze snow covered statue of a seated man at a small table facing the traffic on Chinggis Khan Avenue.. The man is Yumjaagiin Tsedenbal, a Mongolian Communist leader who ran the country for 44 years. A Small plaque in Mongolian and English provides some information about his accomplishments. However over the years the plaque has become damaged due to weather conditions and is very difficult to read. In most nations who were under Soviet control and were finally able to achieve independence, statues of communist leaders were torn down or destroyed. Not so in Mongolia. It should be noted that this statue was erected 10 years after Mongolia removed the yoke of Soviet control. It shows the respect Mongolia still has for this leader. Directly in front of the statue just prior to the curb, one finds a large red "Ulaanbaatar" sign dusted with snow.. Very colorful and a great photo spot. As statues go this just one more of the hundreds located in Ulaanbaatar. If you are in the neighborhood, stop by and take a look at the park, take a few pictures and continue on to your destination.

A visitor to Ulaanbaatar will most probably also pass at one moment or the other by the very central Tsedenbal Square just opposite the big Chinggis Khan Square after crossing the Peace Avenue. Here is located the National Drama Academic Theater, the Grand Khan Irish Pub and it is the beginning of Seoul Street, the usually liveliest part of town.
In the middle of the square is a bigger than life-size bronze statue of a seated man, after whom the whole square is named. It is surprising to discover that when statues of communists all over the former Eastern bloc were torn down, here in Ulaanbaatar a statue is erected 10 years after the Democratic Revolution to a man, who represented for 44 years the Communist rule in Mongolia as General Secretary of the Party, as Prime Minister and as Head of State: Yumjaagiin Tsedenbal. His foreign policy was characterized by its strong ties to the Soviet Union, his wife was an influential Russian and he passed away in Moscow. But the erection of a statue to him shows that he is still regarded with respect by official Mongolia.

There seems to be a lot of large bronze statues dedicated to people around U.B. They're interesting if you are into statues but otherwise just another statue.

This amazing statue shows a former Communist Leader of Mongolia sitting on a bench. He looks like a real man, only bigger.
In case you need directions to find this National Treasure, be advised that he sits immediately east of the Chinggis Irish Pub. You can see him from the window if it is too cold or polluted to wander outside. Having said that, I particularly enjoy looking at this big guy in winter when he wears a mantle of fresh snow. He is equally attractive on a summer evening, silhouetted against the western sky.
Definitely an attraction not to be missed!

Tsedenbal is definitely one of the Political figure of the Mongolia.
Mongolia was 2nd Communist country in the World. And he was in the highest position during Soviet period and served longest.
Name of his positions are Head of the Mongolian People's Party, which was only Political Party that time and Head of the People's Great Khural, which is like Parliament. Also he was Prime Minister. Ruling all power that time.
He was Marshal of Military.
During Democratic Revolution people talked about him badly, but later people start talking about him good way.
In last year-2016 his province governors celebrated his 100 years old anniversary.
His wife was Russian lady, who made a lots of work for Mongolian children.
The reason is the locating his Statue that area, his home was on that street.
That street is clean and you could sit near the Statue for relax, of course for the warmer seasons.
He passed away in Moscow, Russia, 1991.

This statue more than all the others looked a bit statelier and in better condition than the others. I still don’t know who he is and what famous thing he had done but I will look it up when I have nothing to do and will research it and know that I was there.
