The Independence Square as one might presume is located in the very center of Uzbek capital. It's a pretty big area with several attractions to see and visit, and some you can not.
The central part occupies a long colonnade with a mythical bird on top in the middle. In front of it are series of fountains (not working in Oct).
Behind it is the Independence monument - massive pink granite monument with golden globe on top with Uzbek state engraved in the middle. Instead of that globe here used to be Lenin statue during the Soviet era, but was removed after gaining independence. No access to the monument, you can only observe it from a distance.
To the left is the white classic style Presidential palace with no access even close to it.
To the right is the WWII memorial you can freely roam around with eternal flame and casualties from Uzbek inscribed in golden pages.
Parks around these attractions are nicely manicured with strong military and police presence. Count on up to an hour to see the entire area.

Square located in the center of the city, which in itself, is a beautiful highlighting the cleanliness of the area and surroundings.
It houses the government building and the ministries of economy and finance among others. Opposite this is the former Romanov mansion, last tsar of Russia.

The large 20-hectare square was called Lenin Square during the Soviet era, but renamed and renovated in 1992 as "Independence Square". It's packed with some 500 fountains and a line of columns and lintels, adorned with figures of “huma” (mythical stork-like birds which feature in the national emblem). A beautiful spot from which to watch sunset.

The central area of this city. Obviously it is of mandatory passage. Open space, modern with some gardens and where the old hotel dominates Uzbekistan

Tashkent is a very modern city with stunning buildings, open spaces, magnificent subway (worth a visit even if you don’t use it), fabulous statues and plenty to see and do.
Very clean, friendly and there is a ‘wow’ around every corner.
Eating out is pretty cheap.
It didn’t meet my expectations, it far exceeded them!
Highly recommend

Unmissable site of the history of Tashkent, Independence Square with its symbolic monument of beautiful and imposing construction with its storks at its top. Beautiful adjoining park and many adjoining government buildings.

Decent public swuare, no celebrating independence.
In the past it has had other purposes, like a small version of Red Square during Soviet occupation.
Not much to see really.

We reached Tashkent at around 10.00 AM on 30/08/24.
After taking a small simple breakfast at Kaarvan restaurent, we checked into our hotel Radisson Blu. In the afternoon, after visiting Amir Timur Museum, we visited this Square .
The independence Square (Uzbek: Mustaqillik Maydoni, Мустақиллик Майдони) is a central square of Tashkent, Uzbekistan. After GV the proclamation of Uzbekistan's independence in September 1991, "Lenin Square" was renamed in 1992 as "Mustaqillik Maydoni", which translates to "Independence Square" in English. The monument to Lenin was dismantled, and in its place the Monument of Independence of Uzbekistan, in the form of the globe, was erected. Later, in front of the pedestal was set a figure of a woman, symbolising the Motherland.
This central square of Tashkent hosts celebrations and military parades in the days of special events and public holidays. This largest square in Tashkent is more like a large park than a square. With several monuments and fountains, surrounded by impressive public buildings and filled with trees and flower beds, this is a showcase of modern Uzbekistan.
Today it consists of several areas: administrative buildings, the recreation area with green zones and fountains, monuments including the Arch of Independence and the Independence Monument.
The story of the Independence square as a center of Tashkent goes back to more than hundred years. The General Governor of Turkestan built his military fortress in 1865. Since 1974 this place was called the Avenue of Parades, where military parades and demonstrations of workers were held to celebrate the holidays of May 1, International Workers Day, May 9 - Victory Day and November 7 - Revolution Day.
Passing through the arch of silver with figures of storks around the fountain, which marks the entrance to the Independence Square, one can see the main monument of the Independence square - the Independence Monument. It is a high pedestal with a golden globe erected on the top with a visual rendering of a map of Uzbekistan. Before the pedestal there is a statue of a seated mother with a baby in her arms. The monumental complex represent the revival of Uzbekistan as a free independent state. The Monument of Independence was erected in 1992, and the complete reconstruction of the area was completed in 2006.
On the opposite sits a statue depicting a mourning mother sadly looking down onto an eternal flame in memory of her children who fell when defending the country, to commemorate the fallen unidentified soldiers in the past World Wars.
Administrative buildings, including the Cabinet of Ministers, Senate of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Finance are located on the western side of the Independence square in Tashkent.

The square is located in a slightly elevated position, compared to the adjacent busy road. Two stairways lead first to two large pools whose fountains were unfortunately inactive and then to the original colonnade on which the presence of some storks, a symbol of fertility, stands out.
