Un descubrimiento sorpresivo. Un lugar de paz, donde prima la cultura sobre cualquier otra cosa. Música de calidad en un ambiente inmejorable, levantado y sostenido por gente "normal" que ofrece su casa con la generosidad de la gente "normal". Sábados, audiciones guiadas. Un lujo!!

Todos los sábado de 07:00 pm hasta las 08:30 pm aprox, en la sala de la fundación se puede disfrutar y conocer la historia de la más exquisita selección de música clásica, que es tocada con ayuda de una vitrola o toca discos por Eduardo Machicado, hijo de Flavio Machicado que comenzó con esta costumbre ya hace 100 años, que es una parte de la cultura paceña. Es un lugar que debe estar en la agenda de todo viajero que pasa por la ciudad de La Paz

были здесь всего один раз, очень приятная атмосфера, слегка приглушенный свет и приятная музыка настраивают на определенный лад, очень красивые картины

We often forget to turn off our personal world and multi-task whilst having music in the background. I know i go through this and my solution is to not have any music at all when i'm multi-tasking; however when i do, i want to have my full attention to what i'm listening to. This is the case when attending a 'Flaviada'. Not only has it been happening for decades and is located in a very historic section of La Paz, but the space offered by the Machicado family for this kind of cultural activity is just 'perfect'. If you love classical music and are in need of a get-away-space to turn off your world and focus on music.......THIS is the spot. They start sharp on time and when it's cold, a fireplace is turned on. Narration is provided of the programme for the evening and sometimes bits of history on composer/composition is also added. This is a very good point because it is short and concrete information. Media varies as some of the material is only available on wax (vinyl), cassette and compact disk. The overall quality of the audio in the space is very good. The lighting is also a key factor, it is kept low. I would strongly recommend to visit the the Fundacion Flavio Machicado for a Flaviada.
This Fundación also offers a library with a vast collection of historical periodicals and books from Bolivia, a handy place to get information. Please give them a call to set up an appt so that the experience can be more focused.

Flavio Machicado Viscarra was a music lover and a very cultivated person. Born in 1898, he died in 1986 and left behind the largest collection of classic music recordings in Bolivia, and a library with 30.000 volumes related to arts and history, collections of journals and ancient photos. The Foundation that bears his name, created in his home in 1995 has classified all the documents and allows free access to researchers. Maybe the most beautiful feature of the legacy of Flavio Machicado is the "Flaviadas", music sessions that have been held without interruption every Saturday for the last 90 years. It is a tradition that gathers music lovers friends to listen in complete silence classic recordings as well as modern compositions of symphonic music. If you are in La Paz and you love as music as much as tradition, step in. The door is open every Saturday from 18:30 to 20:30, you don't even need to ring the bell. I've been there many times, it is an experience second to none.
