We have been at the oldest Islamic building. This is one of the best place we have seen in Cairo , we loved the design of the building. Looking very old

Очень интересный исторический архитектурный комплекс, объединивший в свое время мавзолей, медресе и больницу. Построен в 1285 году под покровительством султана аль-Мансура Калавуна. Широко известен как один из главных памятников исламского Каира и мамлюкской архитектуры.

Percorrendo via al-Mu'izz ci si imbatte nel complesso di Qalawun costruito dal sultano al-Mansur Qalawun nel Duecento. Comprende un ospedale una madrasa e il suo mausoleo. È uno dei principali monumenti del Cairo islamico e dell'architettura mamelucca. Qui si trova anche la biglietteria per visitare gli altri monumenti della via storica (100 lire egiziane, circa 5 euro).

Mejor zona de la calle Al Moez. La visitamos en viernes noche y el ambiente era increible. Todo el mundo paseando, disfrutando de la noche, haciéndose fotos. Cenamos en una terraza enfrente y disfrutamos mucho viendo el ambiente. El edificio iluminado, precioso

The whole complex, with all its components – hospital, madrassa and mausoleum - was built in just thirteen months, between June 1284 – August 1285. Its splendor and imposing scale keep surprising the visitors after more than seven centuries.
The minaret recalls the shape of Syrian minarets, while the walls decoration features elements from Spain and North Africa that were perhaps the work of artisans from Andalusia and Morocco. The façade and the sumptuous interior have a Gothic touch, which is understandable considering that the sultan al-Mansour Qalawun was familiar with crusaders churches in Syria. He actually died five years later, at the age of 70 while on the way to the crusaders fortress of Acre, which he planned to attack.
The museum’s guide, a passionate photographer, was very professional, providing a lot of useful info in a fluent English.

Очень красивая мечеть. Внутрь можно заходить, только покрывайте голову платком. Здесь находится самый большой мавзолей.

Al-Muizz Street is the location of the magnificent Kalawun complex. The complex was built in a year and completed in 1285, includes a madrasah, a mausoleum and a hospital. Later it was rebuilt several times. The complex is decorated with marble and stucco, wood carvings, colorful ornaments. A ticket to the attractions of al-Muizz Street costs 100 Egyptian pounds.
На улице аль-Муизз находится великолепный комплекс Калавун. Комплекс был построен за год и закончен в 1285 году, включает в себя медресе, мавзолей и госпиталь. Позднее несколько раз перестраивался. Complex one cannot miss while strolling down Al Muizz street .This is the most happening part in old Islamic cairo ,alot of vendors and seating place too.Interiors are nice to look at but needs cleanliness and upkeep.

This is one of the highlights of a visit to Sharia Al Muizz. Really a very impressive and well maintained example of ancient Islamic architecture. It's worth buying the entrance ticket so as to be able to see the interior (as well as various other buildings along the street).

The Qalawun complex is a massive complex in Cairo, built by Sultan al-Mansur Sayf al-Din Qalawun in 1284–1285. The Complex was considered one of the most beautiful buildings at that time, where it included a school (Madrasah), a hospital (Bimaristan) and a mausoleum, with a beautiful Dome. The Mausoleum of “Sultan Qalawun”is considered the 2nd most beautiful mausoleum, after the “Taj Mahal”in India. It is widely regarded as one of the major monuments of Islamic Cairo and of Mamluk architecture, notable for the size and scope of its charitable operations as well as for the richness of its architecture. The interiors of the mosque are quite impressive and beautiful. You have to buy a single ticket that allows you access to this complex and many other buildings.
