The place is hard to find. Lacks directional signages. Other than that it's a good way to spend your day.

Foreigners pay 600 Shillings to enter this place. It is sad to see the neglect.
Wooden items left outside. Other things stacked in sheds. I’m the train carriages the lights have been stripped out and sold or put in homes.
They have real history here but are too lazy to protect it. Very sad indeed.

Nos encantó la visita, hay muchos trenes y material relacionado.
Mis hijos disfrutaron porque pudieron montarse en todos y recorrerlos a su gusto.
Mi marido es aficionado a los motores y maquinaria antigua y encontró cosas muy interesantes y mucha variedad.
No había visitantes.

This museum has a lot kenyan railway history and artefacts. It will delight the true enthusiasts but may not impressed others.

Ich kenne dieses Museum seit der Eröffnung, Ende der 70er Jahre. Sehr traurig, was heute noch davon übrig ist.
Die meisten Exponate im Außenbereich sind völlig vergammelt. An den Lokomotiven wurde alles abgeschraubt und geklaut, was man nur davontraggen kann, und in den Waggons wohnen zum Teil Leute (wahrscheinlich gegen "Miete" beim Museumspersonal). In einem ausgestellten alten Waggon hat jemand die Toilette benutzt, es lagen Kondome und leere Essensverpackungen herum. Generell wurde hier schon sehr lange nichts mehr restauriert. Ein paar Wagen mit hölzernem Aufbau, sowie der Schienenbus, sind mittlerweile verschwunden - wahrscheinich verschrottet. Stattdessen stehen inzwischen ein paar neuere Dieselloks und Kranwagen herum, die jedoch einfach nur dort geparkt wurden - es tropft überall Öl heraus, und es gibt reichlich Rost zum bestaunen.
Im Innenbereich ist es schlimmer. Die meisten Gegenstände sind vergilbt und ausgeblichen, weil sie nie vor Sonneneinstrahlung, Besucherhänden und Staub geschützt wurden. Aus den Vitrinen sind die meisten wertvolleren Gegenstände, an die ich mich noch erinnern kann, verschwunden. Ein Ausstellungsraum ist zur "Art Gallery" umfunktioniert worden, dort gibt es zwar nichts mehr, was irgendwie mit der Eisenbahn zu tun hätte, dafür aber Gemälde und Batiken zum kaufen. Modelle von Lokomotiven und Fährschiffen auf dem Viktoriasee sind kaputt oder verschwunden, weil die Glaskästen fehlen oder keine Scheiben mehr haben. Dafür hängen nun Fotokopien von alten Zeitungsauschnitten an der Wand herum. In dem heillosen Durcheinander der Haupthalle standen außerdem Putzeimer und ein Stapel Autoreifen herum.
Es macht einfach nur fassungslos, was sich da noch "Museum" nennt. Das korrupte Personal sieht darin ganz offensichtlich nichts weiter als einen Flohmarkt, und die Kenya Railways oder Rift Valley Railways Corportation oder wer auch immer nun gerade im Besitz des ganzen ist, kümmert sich schon seit sehr vielen Jahren nicht mehr darum.

Lovely railway museum with lots to see, many large engines and carriages. Good museum with many artefacts from the railways and shipping. Lots to learn about the formation and history of the Kenyan Railways

Quite educative. You get more info than what we learned in school. I wish the place could make miniature train models both old and new. Those would definitely sell. Also put some sign boards on the road to make finding the place easier

Best museum ever. This museum is hard to find but so worth it. Free from western health and safety regulations in the best way possible. Great set of artefacts both modern and colonial and great staff willing to answer questions and get out the lions pieces to show you. Also great small gift shop for souvenirs. There are few places like this where you can get on important trains from the past.
It is a bit run down but who cares it’s great.

Really fantastic museum which has a large range of really interesting things and covers the full history of the railway including the more modern developments. Things could have been a little better labelled, but it didn’t take away from the exhibition too much. The outside area has a great number of trains and carriages to explore. Well worth paying a visit and you could easily spend a few hours here

Great Museum, and particularly for railway and history interested people like us.
Naomi guided us around and did an excellent job.
Will bring some children next time to climb in/out of the exposed train in the museum garden
Only negative experience was the rest rooms! Toilet paper and soap needed.

A visit to the railway museum offers you a learning opportunity on Kenya's railway history, that includes old locomotives that go way back 18&1900's. There are also displays of Kenya pre, during and post-colonial period. How the city looked then and now. The Museum has also included a display of the present rail. -The SGR
