School Live Bar, where rockers, beer lovers, and curious hutong wanderers have been gathering for the better part of ten years, should be placed at the top of everyone’s Beijing to-do list. Co-run by Beijing punk band “Joyside”’s ex-bassist, the bar oozes rock ‘n’ roll from every poster-covered corner. With live music shows on almost every night of the week, from indie rock to hip-hop, School Live Bar will never fail to provide you with a night of laughter, entertainment, and unforgettable musical moments.
Although perhaps best known as a “refuge for alternative music fans,” School Live Bar is frequented by metalheads, electro fans, and rappers alike, all keen to experience the unique flavour of Beijing nightlife it has to offer. Drinks are reasonably priced at 25rmb for a beer, and although entry varies depending on the bands performing, it tends to stay within the range of free – 100rmb. However, the first bar (yes, School has not one but TWO bars) is always free entry for when you fancy a more chilled, but still awesome, night out. If the promise of cheap beer, good company, and even better music, is still not enough to entice you in, then maybe the two table football tables, dartboards, and rooftop lounge area overlooking the quaint hutongs below, will do the trick.
I can guarantee you will leave School Live Bar eager to return the next day, likely hot and high on adrenaline from the hardcore mosh pit you found yourself in for most of the night, and with new memories to add to the craziest (best) nights in Beijing list.
