Guanfu Museum is the most famous private museum in China owned by a famous antique collector, Mr.Ma Weidu. The name GUANFU is derived from Tao Te Ching. It means: you need to scrutinize something again and again if you want to see its nature. This also express how Mr.Ma feels about antique collecting. The museum lies outside the NE corner of 5th ring road, not far away from the Airport Express. One of the most famous items of the museum is the cats, Guanfu Cats. There are tens of cats kept in the yard. Somehow they actually are the owner of the museum, and tourists love them so much since they are really cute. The antiques here are also impressive, especially the chinaware and the furniture. The chinaware includes items from Tang Dynasty to Qing Dynasty with almost all the typical features. The furniture shows the traditional Chinese style and how ancient elites value their characters. From all the selected antiques, you can easily feel the core of the Chinese culture. Yet, due to the private nature of the museum, the ticket is a little bit expensive(100 yuan). Nevertheless, you can pick the paiting on the ticket, including many cats images, and bring it back home as a book marker.

This is a must see, off the beaten path museum when visiting Beijing. An amazing collection of historical ceramics, porcelain, furniture, doors and window screens from the early and middle dynasties of China. Easy to view and well laid out. Doesn't take more than a few hours, but the pieces are exquisite.

This private museum is between Ring RD 4 and 5 towards the Capitol airport, so not close but absolutely worth a visit. beautifully presented exhibit of mostly 18th-century interiors (furniture, decorative objects, partitioning walls, carved window planes, treasure boxes etc.) and exquisite pots and vases from the earliest time to the Ming Dynasty. On the upper level there is also a small gallery of recent paintings and sculpture. The atmosphere is serene and you can just imagine the life of the wealthy Chinese 3-4 centuries ago. Everything that you couldn't see in the Forbidden city and other places is here, in beautiful condition and arranged with care and taste. You can take as many photos as you wish and there are few tourists. Entrance fee was 50 Yuan, absolutely worth it, everything was labeled / explained in English as well.
How to get there? I took a taxi from my hotel near Fuxingmen station that is just 2 stops from Tiananmen Square West. The taxi to the museum cost 90 Yuan, the traffic was heavy but not too bad, it took about 40 minutes. The brochure I obtained at the museum says you can take the Subway to DONGZHIMEN Station, take Exit B and take Bus 418 from the DONGZHIMEN Public Transport Hub (just above the station to ZHANGWANFEN Bus Station. The museum is 200m west from the station, a white building with red roof.
I took a cab back from the Museum to DONGZHIMEN station and that cost 40 Yuan, so if you don't want to experiment with the Bus, you can take a taxi from there to save time and money getting out of the city.
I would share photos but the internet is too slow to upload them. There are quite a few photos on the internet anyway, if you search Guangfu Museum Beijing images.

The Guan Fu museum was initially privately owned by collector/dealer/aso Ma Weidu, but is now a foundation. It has, among other things, a very fine collection of porcelain and furniture, in marvellously arranged displays. However, it is not anymore on Liulichang, but on the way to the Capital Airport, which makes it slightly difficult to reach, but if you like chinese arts, it´s worth a few hours.
